“AMAZING”

If you're on a budget and need a wonderful place to stay in Florence, email Eva ([--]) at the Hotel Giada. The central location, with a view of Michelangelo's New Sacristy in San Lorenzo, is fantastic. It is comfy, clean, and the owner, Eva, just might become your friend for life. :>) The breakfast room is so cozy, I have entertained thoughts of settling in to write a novel. As for the neighborhood-- it has everything, along with a high ratio of locals to temper the tourists.

I can't even begin to tell you what a terrible time we had at this hotel. This hotel NEARLY ruined our whole trip. Our room looked NOTHING like the photos. Our King size bed was two twin beds pushed together, with a rather large gap between them. It did not have the amenities listed. The television didn't work. The windows are NOT sound proof. I could HEAR people WALKING out on the street. EVERY morning we woken up at 4:30 am while they pull their little shops back out into the street. They do this for HOURS. It's VERY loud. You can even hear them speaking to one another. We didn't sleep the whole time we stayed here, and I'm a HEAVY DEEP sleeper. The noise from the market seemed amplified somehow in our room. The best thing about our stay was the breakfast. I don't understand why so many people complained about it. Cereal, OJ, coffee, tea, breads, salami, meats and cheese, croissants. They staff was EXTREMELY rude, and didn't really speak English. . Plus, they were painting the hallway the whole time we were there. They paint fumes were terrible. They had a small door open for ventilation.

We booked through another site, and we had to pre-pay for the room when we booked. No cancellations, so we were stuck. When I was deciding on which hotel to stay in, I relied a great deal upon other people's reviews. I don't know what hotel they stayed at, but it was NOTHING similar to our experience or room. I wish we could have stayed somewhere else. The BEST part about this hotel, are the leather shop employees. Their English is awesome, and they are hilarious! They were some of the friendliest people in Italy. They helped us out more than the hotel staff. When we were awake in the morning (because we couldn't sleep because of the noise), they would invite us to go have coffee with them. I give this hotel 0 stars. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE if you want to enjoy Florence. Do you know how hard it is to enjoy your trip when you can't sleep? It sucked. We even tried to buy earplugs, and they threw them away. Oh, you can't close the curtains to block out the light either.

First of all, the Hotel Giada's location could not be better! It is just across the street from the Medici Chapels, about a 5 minute walk to the Duomo. It was easy to find, although their sign is very small and the market out front was very crowded. The reception area and breakfast room were old, but very pleasant and cozy. The free breakfast featured everything you would expect from a European breakfast, with cappucino included. It included pastries, meats, cheeses and toast. Just get there early, because there are not nearly enough tables available. Our room did not face the market, so it wasn't loud at all. In fact, we slept with the window open one night, and we were not bothered. The room and bathroom were clean, fairly large, and the beds were comfortable. We had a TV and refrigerator.

Now for the bad news. The customer service is pretty terrible. The employees (especially the men) were rude and just generally unpleasant. I was skeptical at first when I read the other reviews about the bad service, but in this case they are spot on. They were unfriendly, unproffesional, and acted as if we were a nuisance. And we were speaking Italian with them, so it wasn't a matter of the language barrier.

The other bad news: be sure to inspect your bed for bedbugs. I was bitten over 20 times in the last 2 nights of our stay. At first I thought it was the work of mosquitoes, but after examining the bed the last morning, I discovered the actual culprits. I realize this IN NO WAY reflects on the cleanliness of the hotel. They were probably brought in by the previous occupants. That can haapen anywhere. Just be careful and observant.

So to wrap it up, I would definitely stay here again. The location is the best in Florence for the price. I would just avoid the staff and inspect the mattresses.

We stayed at the Giada hotel for 3 nights and it was quite sufficient for our needs. The breakfast in the morning was not much to write home about, but at least it was included and gave us something to start our day. The beds were comfortable and we got a quite room. We had read reviews of the rooms in the front of the hotel being noisy in the morning while the Central market people set up their booths. It is great being right by the central market.

Just home today after a trip to Italy 4 nights in Rome 3 nights in Florence staying in the Giada Hotel. The hotel is extemely basic more like hostel accomodation than a hotel so don't expect a hotel. The place is extremely shabby and very old but having said that the room was quiet & clean. The down side the staff were the rudest people I have come accross the first girl who greeted us was fine but it just went down hill after that we went down to the reception to return a leaftet they gave us and the guy couldn't understand that we were just returning it to him in the end he snapped it out of my hand and walked away cursing us in Italian so the first girl asked what was going on when I told her she said sorry he didn't know that I gave you the leaflet!!!! but there was no need for him to shout at me, I wanted to move there and then but after travelling around was it worth the hassle for 3 nights, so we decided to stay and avoided the staff at all times. when I returned the key today to check out there was another person there who just snapped the key off me didn't ask was I checking out what room, no good morning nothing. So if you want extremely RUDE staff who shout at you this is the place to stay...........

We stayed in Hotel Giada from 10th of May to 13rd of May 2009.
It was very easy to find, since it is only 10 minutes walk distance from santa maria novella train station to the hotel.
There was always a public market in front of the hotel and we bought presents for our friend from there.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They helped us to make a reservation for Uffizi.
The room was clean and pretty. There was a refrigerator and safe box.
It was easy to reach duomo (3 minutes walk distance).
The breakfast was very good for a 2 star hotel.
It was the most central hotel we could find for our budget and it was worth of money.

We stayed in Giada Hotel early May. At first, finding the Hotel was difficult because a market is installed along the street with a lot of people and stores hanging around; however we find later that it's location was excellent since everything worthseeing was close. A convenient store (for buying water) is at the corner of the street which is of great value. The only thing that scared us a little bit is that at nights there are a lot of african immigrants hanging around trying to sell you bags and watches (which are fake by the way). However we have to say that it was always safe but precautions are important to take. Also we want to advice our fellow travelers that all museum entrances in Florence are cash only (they don´t accept any credit card which is really bad) and they charged you almost for everything (even if the site/place is not worthseeing). We careful when planning what you want to see. Try to go to see the David around 4 or 5 pm since almost all the tour groups are gone. Finally, we found a little bit weird the breakfast service. Since it is a small place there are not enough tables for all the guests, so you must book your slot before hand. Hope this helps.
