“Very welcoming and friendly.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2009

More of an upmarket B&B than a hotel, it's in a very good location not far from the town centre. Our bedroom was quaint, pretty and quite comfortable, there's a nice salon where you can relax with a glass of wine and read a book. The managers were very welcoming and friendly. The only thing we were a little disappointed with was the breakfast - not much to choose from. Good restaurants nearby were 'titos' and 'mimmo' on via san gallo.

Excellent location with wonderful furnished room. The rooms had a very nice charme and the kids appreciated the free laptop.

We split our stay in Florence between the two Antica locations(both are wonderful) which are only a block from each other. For the Florence first timer, the traffic and activity right out of the train station is pretty hectic, confusing and really cool all at the same time. I'd suggest a cab, as the hotel is very close. Walking is a short option too , but Florence streets can be a little confusing. The Antica Dimore is on a great narrow street that is close to everything..the Central Market, the David, the Duomo, etc. The rooms are great decorated in Italian antiques, bathrooms are modern and spotless, the breakfast is way better than I expected, the views from the 80 via San Gallo from the roof terrace are great, the hospitality is great..but...the real secret to this oasis is Amamda, the conceirge at the #72 location. I've spent my life in hotels and she ranks amongst the most personable, caring, helpful conceirge I've encountered. She gave us map suggestions to where the real Florentine population lives and eats as opposed to following tons of the tourists. Oh...and putting your key in a 15 foot, 4 inch thick, 500 year old oak door is pretty cool too.

We had read great reviews on antica dimora, but were unfortunately arriving late from the ryan air flight in Pisa, which meant we could not arrive before 1.30am. Although there is normally no check in at that late time (antica dimora is not really a hotel, it's much more a great B&B), the staff was hugely helpful and managed to find someone who could let us in in the middle of the night!

And we really did not regret it: the location is very convenient, the room full of character, with even a tiny terrace, and it really felt like home! And great and tidy. The huge plus: breakfast is 'all you can eat' (and I am a big eater) and you can even help yourself to the 'honnesty bar' in the evening to chill out after a hard day's walking with some port or else.

Only tiny minus: I'm a very light sleeper, and there was a slight repeated noise (only in the morning), I guess from an engine (lift?) which kept going on and off.

But overall a great place I would recommend to anyone, very very homy!

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and although we arrived late at night and were at first surprised by the exterior of the hotel (it's in a multi-use building and not very apparent there is a hotel from the outside), once you enter from the elevator or stairs, it is a gorgeous little gem. Warm and colorful and beautiful inside and quiet because it's away from the street. The rooms are also warm and colorful and lovely and everything you need will be provided to you. Our bedroom window faced a nice rooftop with potted flowers. And there was a screen in the window which my wife was happy about. Also, the breakfast is perfect for a start to your day of much Florence sightseeing.

It's important to know that this hotel is a bit of a walk from the Duomo (considered the center of all tourist activity in Florence). We found the walk to be nice in the morning or in the afternoon as a way to exercise, and also you walk down a street with amazing little boutiques, stores and cafes. However, the walk is not so wonderful late at night when the street is more quiet and dark and we would not recommend a woman alone stays here. Although Florence is supposed to be very safe, a woman alone may just want to consider something more central. That said, we always felt safe and loved walking by all the little shops- which are a welcome respite after the touristy crap surrounding the Duomo.

Amanda was the manager during the days when we were there and she is very friendly, accommodating and speaks very fluent English.

Dear Guests!
so nice having you here on your 'babymoon'!
Thank you for your nice and long review. Really great. Just a little surprised about the walking distance, as Antica Dimora Firenze is only 0.5miles from the Duomo, which means 10 minutes walk. Along the way yo may discovermany interesting shops and coffee bars and we are only 5 minutes from the San Lorenzo Market and the Accademy. For sure a safe area, as we have several single guests which never had problems walking around.
Thank you again for your best cooperation and look forward to see you again with us in Florence. Best wishes.

We loved our charming room and attached bath. The attendant in this pensione was most helpful, and even helped arrange dinner reservations in advance of our arrival. The common breakfast area was inviting and comfortable and the breakfast was substantial enough to fuel our morning activities. The pensione was near to the Galleria dell'Accademia and the very charming Piazzas San Marco andadella SS Annunziata. A pleasant 10 minute walk lead to the central sites of the Duomo and beyond to the Arno. This was our second stay here, and we would come again and recommend it highly.
Our room which face via San Gallo was a bit noisy at night. No spectacular views, though one room had a lovely courtyard balcony. Very reasonably priced.
