“Relais Grand Tour”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2014

We stayed in the Actor's Suite for three nights. Guiseppe was very nice and hospitable. Although, I wish there was an easier way to contact him rather than by phone. We don't have a global cell phone plan.

The room was charming and very spacious. The bathroom was really clean and had lots of storage space. The water pressure was good, but I ran out of hot water every morning after about 5 minutes.

We could hear a lot of noise around us from neighbors. We could practically hear the owners' conversation through the ceiling. We could also hear their baby crying.

The location was away from the touristy area, which is both good and bad. You definitely get a lot more for your money. But it was little creepy walking around the area at night. I never felt like I was in danger -- Florence isn't that kind of city -- but it was a little uncomfortable walking down graffitied streets in the dark past small groups of young men.

If I go back to Florence, I'll probably spend a little more money to get a hotel near the city center. Even if it's louder, I'd rather be closer to shops and restaurants and be able to wonder around at night.

Dear Guest,
firstly many thanks for spending your time in reviewing our Relais Grand Tour.
Here I try to reply to your notes, hoping also to inform all the other Tripadvisors users about us and our services:
1. Way to contact us: we live on the 2nd floor, there are 2 doorbells, one in the corridor of the 1st floor where you say you spent your stay, and one at the door of the 2nd floor. And one on the street side, at the entrance. Just ring at one of those doorbells if you don’t want to come upstairs (I know that Florence makes guests exhausted, so I understand if they don’t want climbing the stairs). But I also want to mention that there are just a few stairs between 1st and 2nd floor. Why to use a telephone and miss money? Just in case you don’t want to use a doorbell or to climb some steps, we have a wi-fi service free of charge. I’m sorry if you felt ignored, probably we were not clear enough on how you can reach us easily and free during the day.
2. It is very horrible that you have been without hot water. You pay for this service, so you have to use the shower whenever you want, not just for 5 minutes. We’re here to help our guests and we want them to be happy. We’re ready to do all that possible to solve problems. And you have been here for 3 days, so you had bad showers for 3 entire days. Why didn’t you mention this problem while here?
3. Baby crying: yes we have a baby, she’s our joy and she’s very very quiet. She’s never on that wing of the house before 10 am and she never leaves that part of the house after 9.30pm. We’re parents, but we’re also travelers and people who love quiet vacations. If you consider “noise” a baby of 15 months during the day, from very late morning to early evening (and also 2 long neps in the afternoon) I can understand the problem because I’m a sensible person. Why you did not mention this point while here? My sincere apology if she was not so quiet as usual, probably she had a new tooth, and my apology if we were unusually noisy during your stay.
4. Graffitied streets: small towns like Siena and Montepulciano, where I see you spent some days, do not have this problem because they’re very small and easy to clean by the Municipality ecological workers. In big cities like Firenze, Rome, etc. this work requires many days in different areas, and they’re working on that all year long. Of course, we cannot personally cancel the graffities from walls and they do not depend on us (there are not graffities on our street, at the moment). Regarding the “young men”: I suppose you met students going somewhere because here there is the University of Florence, but pubs are – fortunately – not in our area, which is just full of typical restaurants and bars for locals (there are 700 restaurants in a radius of half a mile, in our zone, that is considered the most vibrant and “funky” area in Florence). By the way, it is hard to think that our street is far from the city center and is not very safe.
5. There is also the main Police Station Department right 80 meters from here. I’m very sorry you did not felt safe. Locals do, in this area, despite some (really horrible) graffiti which are visible on the lowered shutters of some shops when they’re closed.
6. Our location: we’re about 3 minutes walk from the Academy Gallery, and less than 10 minutes walk from the Duomo sq. The restaurants and shopping area called “San Lorenzo Market and Mercato Centrale” is right at the end of the street where we are located. I’m sorry to see that probably you did not consider this option to try some of the best places to eat in the city center. We’re used to spend about half an hour with our guests at the check-in to inform them about places to eat, things to visit, etc, and we’re sorry we probably did not give you more details about shops and restaurants spending more time. Boutiques like Prada, Gucci, etc. are located in the Duomo sq. area, and other luxury shops are located closer to the Old Bridge, which is at about 15-20 minutes walk from the B&B.
7.In the end: our sincere apologies for the baby, for the hot water, and for all the other things that made your stay here so unconfortable. We will try to do our best in the future and we will keep in mind your critics, because we want our guests to be happy while they are here at home, and we want them to carry good memories of Florence.
Cristina Gucciarelli.

We stayed in the Actor Suite for two nights in September of 2013. The room was perfect in every way possible. The location to the rest of the city was great and it was very easy to walk all over the whole city to all of the sights. The Actor Suite was big, comfortable, and had a great ambiance. Giuseppe was very hospitable, helpful, and friendly. We would not only recommend this room to anybody visiting Florence, but we will hopefully be returning here someday.

Room Tip: The Actor Suite was perfect. We would recommend this room to anybody looking for comfort, ambiance...

We stayed here for the first leg of our Honeymoon (we then went onto Tuscany) and the Relais offers the perfect location from which to explore Florence by foot. It is located in a quite street, away from the hussle and bussle of the city, but close enough to walk to and from the main attractions and restaurants.

We stayed in the Mirrors Suite which is lovely and quirky, although isnt as large as we might have expected (although a fairly good size for Florence accommodation from my experience). It was impeccably clean and the personal service and advice we received on local restaurants and routes to and from major attractions (and booking taxi's etc) was incredibly helpful. We were also treated to a baby bottle of bubbly, as they knew we were newlyweds which was a sweet touch.

I would certainly recommend staying here to explore Florence.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mirrors Suite which was lovely and quirky, although not as large as the pictures su...

From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. Guiseppe's recommendations were spot on. The room - stunning, location brilliant. Perfect for our stay in Florence for the race. Highly recommend! We stayed in the mirrors room - which was beautiful.

What an enjoyable stay we had at Relais Grand Tour! Giuseppe and Cristina are very accommodating and incredible hosts that make you feel very special. It is very comfortable, very clean and very charming. Giuseppe went into great detail what not to miss in Florence and where to enjoy our meals when we first arrived. We were able to follow almost all of his suggestions in the 6 nights that we stayed at this delightful, very well situated B&B. We stayed in the "Mirrors" room on October 6 through the 12th. We hope to return to beautiful Firenze and will definitely stay here again. Grazie mille, Giuseppe e Cristina!

Sometimes revisiting a hotel or B and B leads to disappointment but not here. We stayed back in 2010 and have just returned from another trip to Florence. Grand Tour is in such a good location for anyone who wants to be near the main sights but not the crowds and noise that one finds in the centre. The friendly advice and help of good hosts is the other great bonus of this B and B. The room was fine and provided all we needed for our stay, the bed large and comfortable. It has air con and double glazing, which muffled any street sounds effectively. Good quality and value for money restaurants and cafes are nearby, with capuccino and croissant at Nabucco's a favourite of ours. We shall definitely return.

This was our third visit to Florence and each time stayed at Relais Grand Tour. Cristina and Giuseppe greeted us like we were family. They are warm, kind friendly hosts that makes you feel like a home away from home. As our previous rewiew in 2010 the location is within walking distance to all the main attractions, train station and handy to many good eating places.
First thing in the morning, we look forward to the short walk to Antonella's Nabucco Cafe for breakfast. We look forward to having breakfast with the locals on their way to work.
Should we return in the near future to Florence, we definetly will stay at Cristina & Giuseppe's family home away from home.
Tony & Hazel, Canada

Room Tip: We have stayed in three different rooms, all clean, comfortable and unique.
