“Much to like, but a few annoyances”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

This B&B has much to recommend it, but there are a number of little drawbacks which may or may not matter to the individual traveller.
Positives: The rooms are comfortably furnished and the water pressure in the shower was fine. The location can’t be beat; most of the main attractions are a short walk away. The train station is only a 15-minute walk; ditto for the rental car agencies should you decide to rent a car for a side trip to, say, Pisa. The “suite” (room Lorenzo) was nice and spacious. Our room faced the Piazza di Signoria, and watching the comings and goings of that bustling square from the window was itself something of an attraction. The windows are provided with solid wood shutters which can be closed to really shut out the morning light. The windows are quite soundproofed, which substantially muffles the din from the piazza. And in the night, the room was absolutely quiet (but see below). The staff is friendly and helpful.
A number of little things keep this B&B from earning 5 stars, however. If any of these matter to the individual traveler, be advised accordingly.
1) The bed was fairly hard, so if you are used to a more luxurious sink-into-the bed feeling, you may be unhappy with it.
2) The in-room safe was very small, so don’t plan to store your laptop in it.
3) Breakfast European style is brought to your room and consists of one cup of coffee, rolls, croissants, and fruit. If you want something more, there is a well-stocked grocery store close by, and if you book one of this hotel’s “suites” you will be able to cook or microwave your own food. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, including a coffee-maker.
4) The office is only staffed 6 hours per day. If you have any need to contact them at other times, you are out of luck. I tried the cellphone number that they gave, but it was not answered, nor were my voice mails ever returned.
5) Although the windows are commendably sound-proofed, a certain amount of noise from the outdoor restaurant directly below in the piazza can be heard if the diners speak loudly. This diminishes by midnight or before and then the room is incredibly quiet.
6) If you dread walking up and down stairs, ask for a lower floor. The staff will help you with your luggage.
7) There is a stall shower but no tub.

Room Tip: If you are noise-averse, ask for a room not facing the piazza

A dream vacation in Italy can't be obtained without a stay at this lovely pension! We can't say enough about the beautifully appointed room in this very central location...Piazza della Signoria...with views of the Palazzo Vecchio. The staff, Bobby & Natalia, showed us such hospitality and care that we felt as if we staying with friends at their lovely home. All the major sights are literally a few minutes's walk from La Casa del Garbo, including the train station. There is even a great little market around the corner where you can stock up on necessities. The breakfast each day was a perfect way to begin a day in Florence. (Bobby's capuccino's were the best we had in Italy!) We highly recommend this perfect spot for anyone seeking a visit to Tuscany's capitol. We will return!

Room Tip: If you want a quieter room, choose one that doesn't offer a view of the piazza. We didn't mi...

We were very satisfied and even surprised by the cozy, luxurious room and beautiful bath at La Casa del Garbo. We found it to be an excellent value, and the location must be one of the best in Florence. The staff was warm and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We plan to stay there again to continue touring Tuscany soon.

We were after accomodation central to the Republican Piazza and chose La Casa del Garbo. While expensive, it did deliver on quality on every level. The rooms were exquisite, really luxurious. The staff were warm, sincere and very helpful even assisting with an unexpected trip to the doctors. The service staff could not do enough to help. The breakfast was fresh and luxurious. Position wise we hit the jackpot - not just in locality to everything around but we also loved the atmosphere of being in an actual piazza (can't remember the name). It meant that even when we were in our room we could faintly/gently hear the wonderful music and sounds of Florence. It was, as I say, not cheap but it was money well spent that left us feeling "spoilt" by Florence.

Room Tip: We stayed in two types of room....as we zipped off to Pisa for a night and both rooms were exception...

My wife and I spent a week in Florence and found Casa del Garbo via Tripadvisor. The room was great. They brought us breakfast every morning. The concierge was extremely helpful. The very best part of the hotel is the location. We walked all day and inevitably found ourselves in this part of town. So, if we needed to change jackets or get an extra bottle of water, we were always close to the hotel. I would definitely recommend Casa del Garbo to anyone who is interested is staying in Florence.

We were out on a vacation without our kids for a long time. The location cannot get better. You are right at Piazza della Signoria and it was amazing to be there. Staff for very courteous too. Quality wise, this place had the best quality compared to all others we've stayed.

The only issue is that the first night the A/C wasn't working, it was just bad considering our long journey. I wish they at least offered a discount or something. But they did fix it the next day.

The breakfast was fantastic. They have a chef in-house who does all of it "Fresh".

Will definitely go back to that place!

We stayed there one night in January, and it was nothing short of perfect. The room was charming, located in a typical old florentine building where they have kept the charm of the past times, yet modernised all the facilities, which are top standard.
Rooms exquisitely furnished.

The location could not be better, as you are in the very middle of Florence as soon as you go out the door.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and all contributed to making our stay in Florence fabulous.
