My husband and I stayed here last week for three nights. Gabriele and Mario welcomed us to their hotel at check in. Gabriele brought us some juice and Mario took our two pieces of luggage to our room all the way to the 4th floor without us even requesting it. We knew right away that we made the right choice to stay here. The room was super clean and it had huge bath towels. It was nice to open the window in the afternoon and let the cool breeze in. There is free wifi and a safe inside room. Breakfast was nice with Gabriele's special "happy face" on yummy capuccinos. Location is PERFECT! We were able to walk every where. You can walk to and from main train station Firenze SMN if you wish. We did it a couple times but took taxi for about 10 euros when with luggage. Gabriele was very helpful by suggesting sites to visit, walking routes on map, restaurants and things to do. He even offered to make museum reservations for us. Simonetta who is at the front desk at night was very sweet and helpful too! You can tell everybody at this hotel "cares"! The overall experience at the Santa Croce was awesome! This hotel was built in the 600's but is well conserved and maintained. The price is very reasonable for what you get. My husband and I were very happy during our stay here. We will definitely be back again! To Gabriele and Mario: we wanted to let you know that we are back home in California and arrived safely. Thank you both for your kind hospitality! Until we meet again! Hopefully soon :)

My wife and I are from New York and we have rented an apartment in the Trastevere Section of Rome for three months. We are using it as our base and traveling from there. Our first trip was to Florence and we stayed at the Hotel Santa Croce. This is a very special hotel. There are many very good things about it, but I feel the best and most important is its location. It is just a short walk to all that Florence has to offer. It is a short taxi ride to and from the train station and it is located in a lovely section of the city.

Our room was very pleasant. We were upgraded to a junior suite and it is somewhat small for a suite but it was the perfect size for us. The large bathroom comes with an excellent shower that can be turned into a steam shower although we never did that. The bed was large and very comfortable and the linens and towels were excellent. The room was decorated nicely with simple appointments that were subtle and elegant. Our room provided us with plenty of closet space as well as many drawers and shelves that we used for our belongings.

Breakfast was very good. A very nice assortments of cereals, yogurts, pastries, cakes, meats and cheeses greeted us every morning. The coffee was amazing!

The staff of the hotel was very pleasant, and more importantly they were all extremely helpful. They were able to secure great dining reservations for us and they helped us orient ourselves to the city. This was our third time in Florence and if we ever return and want to stay right in town we would not consider any place other than the Hotel Santa Croce.

If you laid out a map of Florence and put your finger on the perfect place for a three-day stay, your finger might be on this hotel. It is within 10 minutes' walk of every major sight on the downtown side of the river, yet on a quiet street with countless restaurants close by. The proprietors were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was smallish but clean and comfortable, certainly adequate, and the price for all of the above was terrific.
The only downside was that the bathroom was extremely cramped, even by European standards. The shower was smaller than a phone booth, and the toilet was so close to the wall that I had to sit on it at an angle. For that reason alone, we have to give the hotel four points instead of five. If you're young, lithe, and nimble, it would probably be OK, and even with that shortcoming we would consider staying here again. And who knows? Maybe other rooms have larger bathrooms.
But that's the only issue. Overall, this is a charming and high-value place to stay.

This value hotel ticked all the right boxes for us.It is close to all the main attractions of Florence, most are within a 10 minute walk. The staff were friendly and helpful and some spoke good English. They gave us a map when we arrived and suggested the best way to make the most of our 2 full days in Florence. There is a lot to see... Our room was clean and tidy, the bathroom was compact, again very clean. This is not a hotel where you can sit around relaxing easily, they have a dining area to take a coffee during the day, but in Florence all you need is a clean comfortable bed and somewhere pleasant to stay and Santa Croce offers that in spades. We are planning a return visit already and will stay here again if we can.

Room Tip: Our room 102 had a street light outside the window, but after a day walking around and going up and...

Great Location... great Service, Great Price. For a family of 4, it is difficult to find hotel rooms in Florence where we could all stay. This hotel is comfortable, and the staff is very personable and helpful to their guests. Nice little breakfast in the morning to start our day (Coffee, croissants, yogurt, cereal, juice, etc..)

The only caveat that I'll mention is that in our room at least, the shower was quite small. I know that most European amenities are smaller, but if you are a large (6ft+, 240lb+), the shower in inconvenient. If you are just typical, then no issues.

Everything was mostly good except: I payed more on the first night because I went to the hotel's website using their wifi after I checked in and they had a better deal there. They also have a lot of rules. For example you cannot bring anyone to your room who isn't registered to their hotel. I guess if you meet someone in Florence you have to buy a whole new room, then it's OK. No drinking alcohol in your room. You must leave the key with them every time you leave. A few other odd rules that I can't recall at the the moment. I remember reading their rule sheet and lauging because it seemed absurd, but maybe they have had some problems in the past. I liked how they have 24 hour reception and someone is always there. I will stay here again if I come back to Florence.

Dear Guest,
first, we thank you so much for your positive review.

We would like to clarify some details about what you pointed out, to be more clear with all other Tripadvisor's Users who read.

The price you paid for the first night was slightly higher because it was Saturday and it is obvious that for the next day (Sunday), the price is lowered.

Regarding the rules in the room, we had not problems in the past, they're simply an handbook of good traveler, rules that any civilized person should know and respect but they are shown only for those people who have not intention of respecting them and don't have courtesy.

It's normal that a stranger person cannot enter into the hotel if he's not registered at the reception, for law and safety of all Guests, but they can enter if you choose a double room instead of a single room and after a new check-in of them.

And it's obvious that a Guest can drink a few beers in the room, but surely it's not lawful that he drinks to get drunk and annoy other Customers.

Or, for example, another rule that is written there, it's not to raise his voice during the night to wake all other Guests.

So, as you see, they're rules of common decency and if there are, again, we repeat they're not for you and other Customers who already comply them, but for those people who do not intend to do it :-D

In Italy there is a famous proverb: "Prevention is better than cure" :-D !!!

Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you asap.

Sincerely,
Mario, Gabriele and Staff

our 3-day stay in hotel was great, guys REALLY CARE about their customers, the stuff is very friendly and speaks english very good( that is also important!)
our room was very cosy and even better than we have booked!
the hotel administration changed our room for a better one, as they have had spare room - it was so nice of them!
breakfast was nice and tasty, with natural coffee and all the Italian hotels normally have for breakfasts.

STAYING AT HOTEL SANTA CROCE gives the possibility to live a unique experience in the magical atmosphere of Florence. Small but welcoming, Hotel Santa Croce is immersed in the marvellous historical centre, right in the heart of the artistic, cultural and commercial life of the city. The Hotel is situated in an historical building dating back to the 600s and stands on the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheatre. The illustrious Michelangelo Buonarroti spent his childhood years in the adjoining house (there is a marble plaque showing evidence of this on the wall of the first floor). While just a few metres away you can find all of the most important monuments and museums, as well as the most renowned bars for those who would like a taste of the Florentine night-life. Situated only 100 metres from Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery and Piazza Santa Croce (from where the Hotel's name derives), you can admire the enchanting Basilica where the remains of the greatest artists, writers, poets and scientists in Italian history are buried; we are also just a few steps away from il Duomo, il Battistero, the magnificent Campanile di Giotto and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore and Santa Maria Novella, not to mention the precious Ponte Vecchio, under which Florence's rushing River Arno flows. Or if you would prefer to dedicate some of your free-time to shopping, you can spend hours walking up and down Via Tornabuoni or Via De Calzaiuoli discovering the best names in Italian, and international fashion. The breakfast room, cosy, warm and welcoming, will help you wake up in the best of moods. There is a 24-hour reception service and staff are always willing to help wherever possible.
