I booked this B&B for my parents' once-in-a-lifetime visit to Florence in May 0f 2012 and should have left a review then, but had forgotten until now to do so. Upon my parents' return from Italy, there was nothing they raved about more, than the stellar hospitality provided by Flaminia. The accommodation was lovely, meals were wonderful and her helpfulness went above and beyond expectations. From helping to arrange transportation to waking at 3am to provide a "to go" breakfast on the day of departure, Flaminia took care of my parents beyond all of my hopes!

After reading trip advisor reviews this was not the hotel I was expecting to arrive to. I think most
of the rate must be because of its location near Florence old city but even the walk there is
quite a hike. The host is friendly enough but is this enough? 2nd class facilities. Breakfast
room dark and dingy and the breakfast and coffee laid out did not brighten it up any. Eating outside on their back garden patio a nicer option but the garden unkept and was not a nice
outlook when doing so. One positive is the bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning
effective so if thats all your after go for it. Myself I won't be returning.

We stayed for a long weekend at this peaceful B & B, which is now under new ownership. The location is south of the city center, but we had no trouble getting a bus from the main train station (about 20 min), with buses running frequently to and from the city center. The area is very green and quiet and we had lovely views over the hills from our room and the breakfast terrace. It is a short walk to the Boboli Gardens and the Porta Romana, and there is an excellent local trattoria (Trattoria Ruggero) just down the street. The turn-of-the-century house and rooms have very nice vintage furnishings, and was always very clean and comfortable. Our room had a very romantic feel and we appreciated being able to make tea or coffee in the room, since this is not often the case in Italian hotels. Agostino was very welcoming and attentive to the comfort of the guests. He even treated us to eggs and bacon, and made sure we were satisfied with our breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend it to anyone.

We booked our reservation at the SanGaggio House eight months in advance of our stay in Florence. Before we left for our trip, I confirmed our reservations at all of the B&B's we stayed at. With every other B&B (4 others) there was no problem, but I had to contact Flaminia multiple times to finally get a confirmation.

After a surprisingly long bus ride across the city and up an enormous hill that we were already dreading having to climb after touring the city all day, we arrived at the SanGaggio House where Flaminia kept us waiting outside in the dark with our bags for over ten minutes. She did not invite us in.

When she returned, Flaminia told us that she had no record of the booking even though she had confirmed it with me a month prior. She told us that she had already made a reservation for us at a nearby hotel with "the same accommodations" and for the same rate. With that she had her colleague drive us to the hotel where he promptly dropped us at the door and left.

The accommodations were far from what we were promised. The room was furnished in faded, dusty, 70's era decorations. There were cigarette burns in the comforter. The shower was a spout coming from the wall, and the ceiling was riddled with water stains and cracked plaster. The breakfast was a sub-standard continental breakfast that we had to pay extra for.

We called Flaminia to address our concerns, and were told she wasn't available but would call us back in 5 minutes. She never did. All further calls we made to the SanGaggio house went straight to the messaging system.

Other reviewers seem to have had pleasant experiences at this B&B, but our experience with Flaminia nearly ruined our time in Florence. She wasn't interested in making sure we were satisfied with her solution to the problem she caused, she just wanted us off of her front step. Take caution booking with this B&B. If you do, consider making an extra confirmation of your reservation before you go.

San Gaggio House was not our first choice but it should have been. When the original booking with another B & B was unable to be honoured we were referred to this wonderful establishment. Philomena was a gracious and friendly host with impeccable english. Once settled we could not ask for better base to explore Florence. Clean room the best bed we sleep in while in Florence and a great breakfast looking out to a lovely peaceful garden. Thankyou to Philomena & family to coming to our rescue for three brilliant nights in Florence.

Room Tip: We had the front room which was large and comfortable.

This is a great spot to stay in Florence. It is about 15 minutes by foot from the Porta Romana. The building is a lovely terraced home with a great back courtyard with a large fruit tree and views of the other homes nearby. It is a bit of a hike up the hill back, but the buses and taxis are all accessible and stop at the end of the road.

The hostess Flamina was extremely helpful and the rooms were kept in spotless condition. This is a traditional terraced home so if you are not keep on going up a flight of stairs, head for a room on the first floor. We opted for the room on the second floor and what a view! Standing on the balcony first thing in the a.m. and watching the clouds clear to see the Duomo was unbelievable. If you are looking for a late nightcap or lunch nearby, go over the top of the Senise road and on the decline you'll find a super little café that serves wine, paninis and colourful desserts. It proved to be a great option if trekking back into the city did not seem appealing. If you enjoy bed and breakfasts, this one is absolutely super.

FYI - the mosquito thing - well they are everywhere in Florence but this is the first place I've stayed where the hosts pre-equip your room with plug ins and we had no problems on that front.

Room Tip: If you are going for romance, pay the extra and take the upper rooms. the lower rooms are lovely al...

We did a lot of research where to stay in Florence and we didnt regret for a second to choose Sangaggio, the place is really quiet, the rooms and place overall looks really nice, everything was more than you could expect from B&B. It is only ten minutes walk from Boboli and maybe 20 minutes from Ponte Vecchio (if you don't want ot walk a cab is 8 eur), the biggest advantage for those who will come with the car is that you have a free parking space. Flaminina was more then helpfull and if ever going back to Florence (and we hope we will) we would stay again in Sangaggio. In the end i dont think we could find a better value for money.
