“Great central location”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

This is a charming hotel centrally located in Piazza San Firenze. 7 minute walk from Uffitzi and Galileo museum, close to a dozen great restaurants, a 8 minute walk from the Duomo, and a 5 - 10 minute walk from all the shopping areas on various side streets.

Lorenzo the manager was very friendly, helpful and even allowed us to check in a little early, which was a relief after our exhausting 12 hour flight. He also provided us with good restaurant recommendations and was kind enough to make several dinner reservations for during out stay.

The room is eclectic in a good way: interesting classic looking furniture, a large painting on the wall and really firm (maybe too firm) bed. The bathroom was a nice size and everything was really clean. You're also given and extra key to access the general lobby/lounge/kitchen area when you can hang out at any time.

MInor detail, but only thing i didn't like about the room was that it was really dimly lit. There was a window in the room but it didn't face the sun, so no natural light during the day. Maybe the hotel can add a few more lamps or just brighter higher watt light bulbs in all the light fixtures.

The hotel provides breakfast for a small charge in the restaurant on the first floor, but we decided to venture out each day for breakfast.

Tip: this place is hard to find even though it's in plain sight. Sometimes its door is hidden from view because of a large vendor booth. And there isn't a big sign. Galileo is directly across the plaza from the gigantic church? Just look for the huge brown wooden doors. Also, you'll have to pay a 12 euro room tax when you check out, but this is pretty standard at many italian hotels.

Staff are very friendly and accommodating and speak very good English. Rooms have a homey feel to them and are good examples of Florentine architecture (I believe). Location is perfect for those who prefer walking to their destinations, as most of the historical part of Florence is accessible by foot from the hotel. Overall a great experience

We loved our stay at B &. B Galileo 2000. Sergio was extremely accommodating and willing to recommend places to eat. The B & B is centrally located so that you can easily walk to whatever sights you wish to visit. And, if you are tired mid day, you can walk back to your room and rest. No complaints from us. We would definitely recommend. R&L

The innkeeper gave us a map and explained where to find the sights. He woke up extra early for our early morning checkout. He offered to upgrade our room if available. He provided good service. The property itself has a central location but also has limitations: noisy water pumps in your and your neighbor's bathrooms, thin walls, a cigarette smell, and scratchy bed linens. At this price point, I preferred the Residence La Contesina.

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights. We couldn't believe how large our room was. The hideabed couch was uncomfortable but that was minor compared to how much we enjoyed our stay. Sergio is very helpful about getting to various sites as well info on great restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the square because it is very large.

I'm sorry I can't rave about this place like everyone else but it honestly wasn't that great. We travelled with another couple and had two rooms for three nights.

First the good points. The location is outstanding! The owner is a nice guy & helpful. The room is very clean and huge. The hair dryer works.

The bad points. The shower constantly fluctuates between steamy and freezing. The hallways are very dark and the lights are controlled with motion detectors that do not work well. The TV requires two remotes and it is very aggravating to make it work right. No phone in room. We were above an alleyway where there was some sort of very loud work going on early every morning. The furnishings look like they came from an Italian garage sale, time for an update!

If I we returning to Florence I would stay at a different location. Just being honest.

Once decided that location needs to be our first priority on a quick two nights visit to Florence it was rather easy to decide. Perfectly located, minutes from all main attractions, warm hospitality and all the assistance / recommendations one may need will be pleasantly offerd to you by Sergio, who runs the place. Adding to the above reasonable pricing and you will understand why we feel we couldn't do any better!!
