So I have debated where I would grade this one. By mega-hotel standards it's very poor...it has no facilities and is not massively central, there are only 4 or 5 rooms, all of which are very small...the bathrooms are tiny and are shower only...breakfast is included but is just bread, meat and drinks...when we arrived late due to flight delays the reception was closed so we had to call the receptionist and she cycled over to open up the place for us! Incredible.
So why give it 5 stars? Because it is quite unique. When our flight from London to Florence was delayed and diverted to Pisa we arrived in the middle if the night and we were very concerned that tHe B&B would be closed...but the receptionist came out by bike late in the evening to welcome us weary travelers (Superb). It is very cheap, but quite beautiful. Located on the top floor of a traditional apartment block (they have a mini-lift, but my son and I took great pleasure in racing up the stairs to beat my wife and daughter in the lift), the rooms are small but beautifully decorated in a traditional style. There is a lovely lounge where you can drink coffee (excellent and free) or booze (honesty bar) and a roof terrace with views of the Duomo and surrounding town and hills...lovely for breakfast, drinks or an after dark read. The bathroom if fine and works wonderfully. The receptionist suggests great restaurants and sorts out anything you need. So for our family of 4, with a dad tired of international business travel staying in 5 star hotels, this is great place to relax in central Florence. Bare foot around the B&B, which we felt like we had all to ourselves.
Don't come here if you want a hotel atmosphere. Do come here if you want to feel like you're at home, but with a Rooftop terrace with views to remember.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Harmonious, elegant, and full of light, this Florentine residence is situated on the top floor of a beautiful 19th-century palazzo. The rooms, all uniquely designed and decorated, have walls in soft hues of natural earth and mineral pigments. The curtains and the canopies of the four-poster beds are made out of precious oriental silk, while pure linen from Florence's renowned, artisan fabric manufacturer, Antica Tessitoria Busatti, is used to decorate the breakfast hall and living rooms. The bathrooms are done in Carrara marble or in hand-painted tiles. Perhaps the nicest surprise, however, is the rooftop terrace, from which you will be able to admire Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's bell tower, the crenellated silhouette of Palazzo Vecchio, and the magnificent bird's eye view of Florence's historic center. ... more less
