This place, to quote Stefan from SNL, “has it all.” We felt almost as if we were in a Fellini movie, with a kaleidoscopic array of dinner parties – from intimate couples and tourist quartets to big-table friends get-togethers among locals and recognized regulars. An extensive, but not exhausting, menu of Tuscan favorites, prepared with distinction. Waiters were helpful, humorous and professional. So go for the scene, but stay for the food – our dinners were absolutely delicious. We liked eating on the front room as you come in, but foiks were having a good time in the interior rooms, too. A new favorite of ours.

Staying at the Hotel Lungarno we walked by here and finally stopped for lunch, the menu looked very good. We were trying to eat light, because we had a culinary tour in the afternoon, but they had some fried artichokes, which I hadn't seen at any of the other restaurants we had been to and I love them. We ate too much because it was all very good.

We dined here on the recommendation of a Florence friend and of Tripadvisor. I was reading the wine list when the waiter asked me what we fancied. I suggested a Chianti Classico Riserva at which point he whisked the list from me and said - we speak Italian - 'this is what you want: Forra'. It was indeed delicious (I know the wine) but it was also one of the most expensive chiantis on the list.
Never mind, we thought, we are here to enjoy the food. The first course was lovely, but the second was a hugely overpriced frittata of four tiny ribs in batter and about a dozen strips of tasteless slices of courgette, for 22 Euros. Quite shocking really. The Ivy in London, a regular favourite of ours as well as a top world restaurant, would never dare charge so much for so little.
As for the coperto at 6 Euros, it consisted of 5 slices of dull bread without olive oil or anything else to accompany it.
We had eaten out in Florence much better, and more cheaply, the four nights before.
Our bill for two came to 120 Euros. Just for good measure they tried to bounce us into paying in sterling, which we indignantly declined . As at least one other Tripadvisor reviewer was apparently tricked into this, beware. All it means is that you will be paying even more than you thought. It is an underhand way of charging customers extra.
We came away saddened more than anything as our last night in Florence left a bad taste, as it were. There are many reasonably priced and also outstanding places to eat in Florence. This, I don't honestly think, is one of them. We have told our Florence friends to avoid the place in future. It may well have been good once. It is not now.

We read the reviews on Trip Advisor and were expecting to be pleased with our food. We were not. Trying to avoid the fried food was a challenge. Portions were small and very, very expensive for what you get (115 Euros for two including a half bottle of wine...which was actually good). The food was very overrated and basic. La Scaletta and Gusta Pizza/ Panino are excellent and nearby.

In the last 25 years, we have been to Florence four times and each time we've eaten at Cammillo - it's almost a tradition.
The manager/ owner appeared after a waiter questioned us about having a reservation; he offered us a choice of two tables in the central room, and that was the last we saw of management - a big departure from previous visits.
The lightly battered and fried Fiore di Zucchini were greasy and tasteless. The brain was excellently prepared, however. The Pappa al Pomadora, a classic Tuscan tomato and bread stew/soup was also inexplicably dry and lacked the fragrant basilico aroma. I have not eaten a worse preparation of this beloved dish.
My son loved his Pappardelle Bolognese but when he asked for a doggie bag, he was told " it was not conventional."
Overall, a disappointing evening and one I am not likely to repeat.
