Pension Bencista is a well run family owned hotel nestled in the hills above Florence minutes from the city center. Beautiful old villa with outstanding views over Florence and surrounding countryside. Charming and welcoming clean rooms, excellent service , Bencista is the perfect base from which to discover Tuscany. Highly recommended !

Wonderful ancient villa with most helpful staff, incredible view of Florence from terrace, excellent dinner. Perfect to be out of Florence crowds, cooler. Staff will make advance reservations for Florence museums etc. and personal tour of area, with Elio who has encyclopedic knowledge of area.

Only negative, not easy walk to bus to Florence or town center. Cabs can be called quickly. At 82 I used them happily. Plenty of parking, but approach roads difficult
. They will arrange pick up from train or airport. A delightful stay.

This was our second stay here - 16 years apart - and we came back because it was such a wonderful place to stay. They now have an elevator, and a spa, neither of which we used.

Every room has personality, is spotlessly clean and now ceiling fans, which is nice since it gets hot and to my knowledge there are no rooms with a/c. (note: no screens either so bring bug repellant because the biting bugs are voracious and the bites are red and last over a week). A note of caution: if you cannot score a room overlooking the city and have a room with windows opening to the front of the house, you will have noise from deliveries, guests arrival and departure, etc. It is not excessively loud but since it is very quiet here, all noise seems louder. Saturday night, if a local group is using the place, you will have late departure and noise outside the windows that can easily wake you up.

You can eat your breakfast on any one of several lovely terraces overlooking Florence. It is a view to die for - . Indoors there are many areas to find a seat to chat, play games, read or be alone. The building has a long interesting history and the family that has owned it since the 1920's seem to be totally committed to the business and bringing an excellent experience to all who visit.

Every recommendation for dinner outside of the Bencista (they offer dinner nightly if you don't want to play the 'where shall we eat tonight' game) was just as they said and a good value and great service/food. Fiesole has a few good options so you don't have to go into or stay in Fiorenze.

Take the #7 bus (tickets for which you can buy at the front desk) to Fiorenze, it drops you in the thick of things and is an easy ride. You don't want to drive into this city if you don't have to do so.

This is, pure and simple, a wonderful place to stay. It is quiet and relaxed and if you need some down time on your trip, this is a first class option.

Room Tip: Every room has personality, is spotlessly clean and now ceiling fans, which is nice since it gets ho...

This is a unique hotel, the best possible introduction to Tuscan life. One can get to Florence easily by bus, without parking problems. And just staying put is lovely: excellent food and dining room plus terrace dining, trained and helpful staff, and a beautiful building and a setting to take your breath away.

We have been to this amazing pensione several times over the past ten years and love it more each time we return. Can not imagine staying anywhere else in the area.

Since we came last they have added a spa and also added to and upgraded the seating areas to enjoy meals and the stunning views of Firenze.

Another major upgrade they have just made this week is the installation of screens on every window in the place. In the past you either had to keep the windows closed or risk the visitation of the Tuscan mosquitos (zanzari).

This is no longer a concern.

The screens are actually an amazing piece of technology. You can raise them out of sight for looking out at the views during the day and then easily lower them in the evening. Perfetto.

Beatrice Simoni and family are the perfect hosts. I love the fact that the family has been running this place since 1925 and are investing in its future.

I hope my children and their children will be able to enjoy its beauty for decades to come.

Do not hesitate to choose this gem of a place. We absolutely love everything about it.

I recently had a four night break with three friends at Pensione Bencista. The most amazing views over Florence combined with the most wonderful hospitality. A change of rooms (personal preference; they are all lovely) was handled with grace and smiles. Showers are excellent which must be quite a feat in such an old building. We chose to eat in the restaurant on three evenings and the food was lovely.

We took the bus into Florence and walked into Fiesole. Be sure to climb up to the highest point in Fiesole for more amazing views and see the Roman amphitheatre as well.

I do not hesitate to recommend this very special place and am already planning a return trip!

Many thanks to all of the staff for their kindness and professionalism!
