When you get tired of fighting the crowds in Florence, this is a great half day to a day activity only a bus hop away. Most tourists appear on Sunday, realizing that Florence's business are mostly closed on that day. We went on a Monday instead and very much enjoyed a quiet day, with wonderful views from this little hilltop tuscan town. The Etruscan/Roman ruins are very good: the entry of 10euros also covers the audiovisual guide (available in English) which does a great job of showing how the baths and theater were originally. All the information is well put together. Then there will be plenty of little places for lunch, mostly around the main square. After lunch, you might want to do one or more of the walks suggested by the tourism office (same place where you buy the tickets for the ruins). Warning! What they advertise as "gentle up and downs" on the walks descriptions, must be the town joke on tourists; I found myself climbing some streets that were so steep that I could only walk on the balls of my feet. But it does show wonderful little streets and spectacular views. If you chose the yellow walk, be aware that you can catch the return bus (7) back to Florence; no need to go back to Fiesole at that point.
