Lucca has a large abundance of these charmingly located restaurants with outdoor seating that cater to tourists. Nothing wrong with them on the whole, and the food is usually above par. Il Cuore is one to stay away from.
Our lunch was overseen by positively the worst waiter in Italy. We live in NYC and are used to arrogance (hell, we expect it) but its only really tolerable if its backed up with actual competence. But enough about the waiter.
My wife had a stuffed ravioli with a meat sauce. It was actually quite good but the portion was far from adequate. 6 raviolis do not make a primo. I had porcini tagliatelle. A very disappointing choice and wildly overpriced.
The half carafe of barely drinkable house wine was $10. The stale bread and privilege of sitting at their chairs while being ignored by the waiter = $5. water was $4. all and all, $50 for a supremely mediocre set of pastas for lunch.
We deserve better. You deserve better.
