Description: Il Cuore is a great little place, featured in Rick Steve's Italy guidebook, definitely worth including.

Lucca has a large abundance of these charmingly located restaurants with outdoor seating that cater to tourists. Nothing wrong with them on the whole, and the food is usually above par. Il Cuore is one to stay away from.

Our lunch was overseen by positively the worst waiter in Italy. We live in NYC and are used to arrogance (hell, we expect it) but its only really tolerable if its backed up with actual competence. But enough about the waiter.

My wife had a stuffed ravioli with a meat sauce. It was actually quite good but the portion was far from adequate. 6 raviolis do not make a primo. I had porcini tagliatelle. A very disappointing choice and wildly overpriced.

The half carafe of barely drinkable house wine was $10. The stale bread and privilege of sitting at their chairs while being ignored by the waiter = $5. water was $4. all and all, $50 for a supremely mediocre set of pastas for lunch.
We deserve better. You deserve better.

The antipasti we had were wonderful - selection of salume from Norcino with olives, and figs with cheese and salami. These were enough for a meal. Next course was the lasagna and the gnocchetti with duck. Both were very good. Just remember that lasagna here in Italy is not the same as lasagna in the US. For wine we chose the sagrantino di Montefalco - excellent. The waitstaff was very pleasant and service was a a nice pace. Another lunch that we left both satisfied and "stuffed".

We went to il coure at night and we were received by this incredibly friendly waiter. The food is good, traditional Italian, with good options of wine. I tried the brief with herbs, because I was so tired of pasta, very good

They have a great antipasto, the clams with linguini is excellent. Nice staff, service excellent. We had a great lunch and came back for dinner a couple of days later.

Trip Advisor Review:
Il Cuore
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy
Via del Battistero 6

After figuring out the park and pay system, entering the old city of Lucca, and exploring the majestic interior of the Duomo, we were starving!  But which
of the many corner side restaurants to choose from?  We decided to head towards one of the side roads, and there, on the corner, at the intersection of two walking areas, we found a small outdoor cafe restaurant called Il  Cuore, which we later found out meant "The Heart."
We were told that we could eat inside or outside, and since the weather was glorious, we decided to enjoy the open air venue, with some people strolling by and only an occasional vehicle.  We ordered some local white wine, followed by an assortment of dishes to share:  Lasagna with a creamy sauce, spaghetti with clams, and testarolo with pesto sauce.  What a delicious combination!  Sitting with my husband and close friends, surrounded by the Romanesque beauty of Lucca, partaking of delectable food--what else can one ask for?_
