Owner description: This tower is easily recognizable: it has a leaning tree growing out of its top.

It is unusual to find a tree growing at the top of a tower but indeed that is what there is. The view is amazing and while this tower is the second tallest it offers a great view and historic information as you climb.
It is tight at the top if there a re too many people but they are very good at judging how many are at the top.
Well worth the fee.

We have now been up the Guinigi Tower three times and never tire of the awesome sights from the top. It is amazing to be able to stand under olive trees on top of a medieval building while taking in views of an ancient Tuscan city. Once on top of the tower though, although you can wander around the perimeter to enjoy the views, there is little overtaking room available. Be warned that not all people (and dare I comment, not all nationalities) share the same levels of patience and politeness when trying to negotiate the available space. Today my camera was almost knocked over the edge of the tower by a fat woman who obviously needs to learn the art of patience and some crowd presence manners. The tower really needs to introduce a time restriction / visitor slot system (just like at the Leaning Tower of Pisa) to ensure that only a limited number of people are allowed up the tower in a given time slot; for example, 25 people every 15 minutes. This would then ensure that everybody gets to enjoy the views without the unpleasant pushing and shoving that can sometimes happen at the top of the tower. Overall, even allowing for this detractor, the Guinigi tower is a 'must see' for any visitor to Lucca.

What's a visit to Lucca without climbing the tower and getting a great view of the Tuscan countryside.

Visited Lucca while on a five night stay in Pisa. I did find the climb a bit difficult as I have chest problems but my husband had no trouble at all.The view over Lucca and beyond was amazing. All the roof tops and terraces were so attractive. Would do it again despite the problems I had with the climb

Its very unique however its difficult to climb. Not suitable for anyone with difficulties. On the plus side its a wonderful view and I have never seen a tower like it before.
