“Right in Puccini's backyard!”
Reviewed 16 May 2013

This hotel is perfectly positioned between Piazza San Michele and Puccini's House on a quiet side street. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the accommodations were clean and pleasant. Since the stop was our first in Italy, I was more anxious to explore the local cafes than have breakfast in the hotel; others on this site have been disappointed with breakfast, which I cannot address. What I can say is, that this is a lovely spot to explore Lucca, a town much less touristy and more relaxing than Siena, even if it doesn't quite pack the same punch. In any case, don't choose between the two towns--see them both, as I plan to do again. And with no hesitation I will choose Piccolo Hotel Puccini next time.

Located in the downtown pedestrian area of Lucca, Hotel Piccolo Puccini offers easy access to Lucca’s museums, restaurants, churches, piazzas, shopping, pedestrian promenade on the medieval walls that surround the city, train station, and outdoor concerts. The staff were friendly, multi-lingual (we heard English, Spanish, German, and of course Italian), and clearly enjoy chatting with clients. Problems with Wifi access were taken seriously and resolved. Breakfast was minimal but the freshly made cappuccino was nice. We received helpful recommendations for places to eat and shop and would definitely recommend Piccolo Puccini to others who want a warm and friendly experience in a charming and manageable Italian city.

Room Tip: Small owner operated hotel with only 14 rooms. They live up to their name of "safe, warm, and...

The hotel is very well placed, close to San Michele, many cafes and restaurants. It was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Could not fault them. But the hotel let itself down with the breakfast. It's a long time since I was offered such a minimal meal. It consisted of a piece of French bread, butter and jam, a piece of chocolate tart and coffee. If you asked, you could get orange juice. It is a very small hotel, but surely it would not be impossible to offer some apples and bananas and perhaps cereals.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room if you don't sleep well - there are three which are not on the street and a...

After a long trip from the west coast of the USA & a bus trip from Pisa, I arrived in Lucca as the rain started. I walked a couple of blocks in the rain & was extremely at the hotel with an apology about the weather :). Check in was quick & easy & I was able to re-group & go out to explore Lucca.
The location is perfect! As a single female I always felt safe coming back to the hotel & walking all over Lucca, in fact I fell in love with Lucca.
The room & bathroom were super clean, breakfast was just enough & they were always accommodating, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It's not luxurious but clean, friendly & many restaurants near the hotel.

If you want to stay inside the city walls in Lucca, this is a well-located hotel. I was in a small standard room and it was perfectly fine as expected - it was quite like a dorm-room. My mother was in the room next door and the ceiling fan was broken. The staff brought an electric fan for her as the hotel was full so they couldn't move her. It was unfortunate as I booked this hotel even though it didn't have air conditioning, specifically because reviewers here said the ceiling fans were sufficient for air. The staff was very helpful about parking.

We recently spent 3 nights in Lucca. The hotel was located between 2 piazzas. We were driving and it was difficult to drive to the hotel. None the less we give this hotel a top rating. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were good sized and bathrooms quite large. Breakfast does not come with the room, but they do serve at the hotel or you can go to one of the many local bars for coffee and food.

The location is excellent. The front counter service (at least during the day) includes impeccable English. (At night, not much English, but still courteous.) We had a comfortable room (alas, no a/c) overlooking a pleasant courtyard, featuring a charming outdoor restaurant. The daytime clerk (excellent English) was as helpful as he could be. Our only issue was that we should have been strongly discouraged from even trying to drive a car into the restricted zone in center city. Instead, we wasted an entire afternoon of a quite short trip trying to find the hotel, then finally parking outside the medieval walls (at a place, yes, that the clerk recommended). We loved a walk along the ramparts of the old city walls and managed with parking, despite the need to scramble for change to feed meters every 12 hours or so. The hotel: Clean, nicely appointed. The lack of a/c was a bit of a surprise, but we were there in early September, so not so much a problem. I'd recommend it. You certainly can't beat the location -- but plan to park outside the old city.

Room Tip: Try for the second floor, overlooking the statue of Puccini. Even if you're not an opera fan, yo...
