Basic but did the job

Review of Hotel Rex
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Oct 2017via mobile
In Gd location. Decor very dated. Not sure about the other reviews referencing the warm welcome, ours was ok but nothing special unlike the other hotels we have stayed in this trip. Breakfast was ok but again no service and confusing layout of items. We were given a gift as we left which was nice but wouldn't stay here again.

Pros...right in front of the train station! The area inside the walls is a mess of mixed up streets so this was good for our short trip. Moments away from the old city, super easy. Decent sized room, nice bathroom, nice staff, really good breakfast and choices. Good WiFi
Cons...even with windows closed you hear street noise. The bed and pillows were hard. Only 2 English language channels, news.
I’d stay there again if I could get a room that was away from streets. If there is one.
Lucca was a great antidote to Rome.

This is a family run hotel and they are delightful people. The owner is sharp and is 101 years old and we had the privilege of talking with him. This is a perfect location particularly if you arrive by train since it is 100 feet from the station. Don't be alarmed. It is quiet and the area, a nice park, is safe with many choices for both quick and full lunches and dinner. Typical of Italian hotels the rooms are on the small side by well appointed and the breakfast is very good.

Room tip: Our room was right on the park and quiet with a nice view of the famous Lucca wall.

Good hotel with friendly staff and adequate rooms with good beds -----smashing location right next to railway station------if l have a criticism it's that the air con is turned off on the 1st October and it's still needed otherwise it's mosquito bite time

Room tip: Avoid the rear if possible as there are no views at all

The hotel is wonderful. It's the first soft bed I have found in a country that seems to be know for hard beds. In addition, the rooms are spotless, and the staff is very helpful. Now if you gotten this far, I must add it is right across from the train station - so convenient...and right out the city walls! Look know further...their breakfast is good too!

The hotel is right outside famous town wall, has own parking. Our very charming room had 2 levels which may not be convenient for elderly people or family with the small children. However it was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Good AC and breakfast in the morning were also plus

Room tip: Hotel has rooms at 2 levels
