“Lucca at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

WOW.............Giovanna made us so welcome at her amazing home which has been in her family since the early 1700s- to walk into her vestibule was like sauntering into a museum, with wonderful architecture and art to match! We stayed on the top floor of this fantastic villa and had three enormous rooms to ourselves- the view from here was absolutely incredible- we used to sit on the large window recesses and look out over the whole of the Luccan valley below with olive groves and vineyards below. Breakfast on the terrace was beautifully presented with an array of tasty things to nibble at. There is little doubt we will be back to explore more of the incredible Tuscan countryside and to reacquaint ourselves with the Tronci hospitality!!

We stayed here in the room with the yellow silk canopy and curtains,it was exactly like a National Trust property but you could sleep in the bed!!But it was not just historic we had a very useful little fridge in our room which was supplied with water and also wifi was available and we were able to sit in the reading room to use our laptop. The breakfast each morning in the pillared portico was beautiful, a range of the best quallity fresh goodies, little cakes,a variety of bread rolls, fresh juice, coffee tea yogurts etc, each set out on individual tables.
The swimming pool was lovely and surrounded by the vines which the owners use to produce their own wine. If you enjoy being away from the crowds and in interesting and quirky surroundings you will love this place.

Room Tip: All the rooms are highly individual, we stayed in the one with the yellow silk canopy over the bed a...

This is the most amazing place I have ever stayed. We had a room, actually a suite, in a Villa full of the original furniture and full of eclectic artwork and furnishings. The pool was clean, huge and sparkling. Breakfast on the portico with views to die for. The setting was so peaceful, quiet and private. I would recommend everyone stay if they have the opportunity when in Italy.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Villa itself which was an unexpected and unique experience, I would choose to stay...

We stayed here (in the main villa) for two days in June and had an amazing time. First, the views of the nearby towns and the countryside from the windows of the villa are amazing. The property is set upon some elevation so it gets a nice cool breeze even when it is hot elsewhere. The property is the perfect distance (about 15 minutes drive) from the main town of Lucca, where you can go for dinner, shopping, strolling, biking, etc. BTW, Lucca is an undiscovered gem in Italy. It is an amazing little town that is surrounded by a giant wall. Second, the hospitality from Giovanna and crew was great and definitely the best we had during our time in Italy. She pays attention to detail to ensure that your stay is great. This includes the breakfast, which was very tasty and bountiful - including freshly cut fruit, little sandwiches, pastries, fresh juice, great coffee and more. Also, the pool set amid olive trees is a good size to actually swim laps and is situated in a very picturesque area. The location of the property allows day trips (driving) to Cinque Terre (~1hr), Pisa (30mins) and of course Lucca (15mins) easy. I would definitely recommend a stay here. I will point out that the property is old (circa 1700s) because the owners have tried to stay true to the historical authenticity, but the plumbing, electricity, WIFI and everything else worked fine. Also, you do need a car to enjoy the property's surrounding areas appropriately.

Room Tip: The room in the villa has beautiful views, but I think the farmhouse rooms have a kitchen area is th...

We didn't really know what to expect, having never stayed at a farmhouse property, but we were very, very impressed. We stayed in a huge apartment overlooking the vineyard, where everything we needed was provided. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hosts were fantastic, laying out a wonderful breakfast and for dinner introducing me to some of the best Italian wine I'd tasted. My only complaint would be the shower in the bathroom ... a little rustic for my liking!, and water leaked on the floor.

But beyond that, absolutely nothing that wasn't idyllic and perfect. I would love to stay again, and would recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed at Fabbrica for 6 nights. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed in the ground floor apartment. It is comfortable, well equipped and quite large. The proprietors, Giovanna and Giuseppe are very pleasant and helpful people. We had planned to use this as a home base for trips to Florence, Pisa, and other spots in Tuscany. Instead we just stayed here because, after a day or two of exploring, we decided this was as good as it gets. We did not rent a car, but for our purposes, that was fine, though when we return we probably will to venture out more into the lovely countryside. It's about a 1 hour walk to Lucca and bit more back as it is uphill. There is a market about 1/2 hour walk. On most days, we walked to the market and picked up food to cook for the next evening. We also had meals at couple of local restaurants that were quite good. The swimming pool is much nicer than it appears in most photos and is in a very picturesque setting. We had an added treat of a wine tasting and tour of the vineyard by Giuseppe. Four people who were staying in Lucca booked a tasting and we were given the opportunity to join as guests. Giuseppe described their biodynamic approach to farming, showed how he grafts local grape vines to American roots, talked about planting herbs to properly condition the soil, poured us some wine, and had us sample some of their olive oil. It was fabulous. We also got a tour of the main house, a villa built in 1735, that has most of the original fixtures and furniture. This is a great place to visit and we plan to return.

Room Tip: The ground floor apartment is perfect for a couple or family of 4. The upstairs apartments are fine...

We stayed in a huge apartment in the ancient farmhouse, beautifully furnished with colourful and comfortable antique pieces. A delicious spread of breakfast pastries, fruit, yoghurt, local cheeses, honey and filled rolls was brought up from the manor house and laid out each morning, whilst we were asleep! Lovely views of Lucca and surrounding hills and countryside, from all our rooms. The family at the beautiful main villa are charming and very welcoming, and are often seen around the farm. Wonderful restaurants within a short drive. Easy access to Lucca. A very peaceful and beautiful stay.
