“Massive and beautiful exterior”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

The size of this was astounding for such a small city. Easy to see from the walls and to get to. Very near where was stayed so not difficult to find anyway!

“Lucca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

The Cathedral was made of marble with columns as most are was very nice inside. Our guide showed us the Valto Santo the Crucifix with the image of Christ that was supposed to have been done by Nicodemus who it was said took Jesus off the cross. All the Duomos have such beautiful paintings. We visited a lot of the shops, which had so many beautiful things. We also visited the Clock tower built about 1390. We saw some Bell towers were erected by the rich, each building higher and higher. They would also plant trees on top to show their riches. Our guide was very helpful, he also told us about the walls that surround the city.

“A Vintage View”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

An ancient cathedral with a vintage architectural view, nothing short of beautiful but nothing so great about it too.
Once you walk in through the walls of the old town you can follow the directions to the Duomo as well as the Bell tower.

“The outside is as interesting as the inside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

This Duomo has a lovely marble facade with interesting carvings and decoration on the external columns and walls which you could easily miss if you just quickly walk inside.
There is a lovely chapel inside that houses Lucca' beloved crucifix (the Volto Santo).

“Beautiful marble church”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

An marble made old church.Interesting facade, with a lot of columns disposed in 3 superposed rows.Right next to the Duomo rises a crenellated bell-tower,pretty high. The highlight of the cathedral seems to be the Volto Santo ("Holy Face") of Lucca, a large wooden crucifix.
