“Room was given away”
Reviewed 25 October 2012

When we arrived for our reservation, the innkeeper had given it away to another party, even though we had reserved it through Expedia. After much scrambling and waiting, he found us an apartment in another building - very disappointing.

We got one block lost on our way from the train station; a quick phone solved that. 10-15 mins walk from station.
In a quiet street, there was no sound at all to be heard after the ristorante/trattoria next door had closed (with the exception mentioned below). On welcoming us he offered us a glass of cold water, after 12 hrs travel we may have looked like we needed it. We asked if he had any recommendations for eating, and he marked out a few on the map.
Our room was a standard one, # 1.
No shelf in the bathroom. No shelf in shower. No extra pillow.
When we met him again at next mornings breakfast he asked us if we had slept well. My partner complained about the mattress, to hard for comfort. And he got it changed! And my pillow, which I had doubled in lack of an extra, resulted in the extra pillow. It was not asked for by me.
Do not lock the clothes closet! You may not be able to open it!
Movement sensor in bathroom turns the lights and fan on.
Everyone gathers around the same breakfast table, breakfast was good enough with yoghurt, coffee, tea, water, croissants, biscuits, fruits, butter and cheese, a glass of juice where prepared then an there from an orange. Can't be more fresh than that.
Would I stay here again?
Absolutely, but not in the summer heat when windows have to be open, with a loud-voiced family two floors below, keeping it up till well after midnight.

To get up to the Al Tuscany B & B, we took what I dubbed The Elevator of Lovers, because it was so small that two people must crush themselves together to fit in. We stayed for five nights at this B & B, so we can testify that the owner Claudio will do everything possible to bring happiness to his guests, whether it be loaning out his own two bicycles or running off train schedules for day trips. Our first room, while rustic and very clean, was stifling hot because the window opened onto the elevator shaft. Therefore we thought it was worth every penny when we upgraded to the suite with a beautiful view and fresh breezes! We thought the buffet breakfast was amazing, as Claudio’s assistant Marina brought us cappuccinos and freshly squeezed orange juice to the table. We would recommend the Al Tuscany B & B for an authentic Italian experience in Lucca.

It's been over a month since my sister and I stayed for four days at Al Tuscany B&B, and it still remains fresh in mind as one of the best places--in one of the best towns--I've ever stayed. Claudio, the owner, helped make our stay absolutely wonderful: he made sure we had an early breakfast when we took an early train to Florence for the day; he let us borrow two of his bikes so that we could ride around the town walls (and ride out to a cooking class!...which, by the way, is something you should totally do if you are going to Lucca....Chef Paolo Monti's Cooking Class, about 3 miles from the town center), he laughed a lot, and brought fruits from his farm. His dog, Jerry, just might be the coolest little geriatric dog on the planet. A couple nights, Claudio joined us briefly on his way home as we ate dinner at a little restaurant below his B&B (p.s. a great place to eat...I think it is called "Queens"), and we drank wine, sneaked some of our food to Jerry the dog). In short, Claudio was one of our favorite people in Italy. And I can't wait to return there.

The B&B is beautiful. It is very clear that Claudio put a lot of effort in getting the best furniture (much gorgeous antique), and worked very hard during renovations to keep the buildings original work/design. His staff are so friendly, and helpful. The place was exceptionally clean and bright. Breakfast was a fun event: there's one large table in the dining room, so the guests sit together when they straggle in for breakfast. It was fun trying out what little Italian I knew with the other guests.

And the town of Lucca is so great. I'm quite disappointed that I can't live there. Perfect location from which to day trip: to Pisa, Viareggio, Florence, Bagni di Lucca, etc.

I can't wait to return. And I WILL stay at Claudio's Al Tuscany B&B.

Room Tip: we stayed in two very different rooms (we checked out and returned a few days later for the bulk of...

It felt like coming home - a warm welcome and Claudio doing whatever to make us feel at home. Clean and spacious rooms in the middle of Old Lucca. Free use of bikes which is very nice to use on the walls of the Old town. The breakfast was very nice - all guests gathered around a large table - people from all over the world. Claudio and staff prepares fine breakfast and great coffee!

Claudio did bend over backwards to help us. He drove us to a cooking class outside Lucca, and to the parking lot at 7am the morning we left - all for free.

We really loved this place and would recommend it to everyone!

We chose Al Tuscany B&B from the great reviews on trip advisor – and I’m so happy we did!! My sister and I LOVED (capital letters) this place. Claudio and the staff were outstanding and did everything they could to make us comfortable and happy. The B&B was well situated in Lucca (inside the walls, next to shops and plazas, about 10-15 minute saunter from the train station). We’ll be coming back to Lucca and Al Tuscany!

We were put in the upstairs room facing the rooftops. The room was a good size, but the bathroom was very cramped & toilet didn't flush well. TV didn't work at all. Breakfast was quite substantial & very delicious!

Room Tip: Ask to see the bathroom first - the downstairs rooms are better, I believe
