A fantastic place! A beautilful house with breathtaking views and some lovely owners who made our stay even more enjoyable.
You would like to stay there for ever. Borgo della Madonnina is very well located, close to many fantastic cities (Lucca, San Giminiano, Siena, Firenze) the sea and the mountains.
You could not ask for more. We will definitely come back! A dream in Tuscany.

Just returned from a week here...we did not want to leave. These cottages are perfect and the setting has to be seen to be believed. Lots to do - (note that a car is a must as the cottages are in a smaller viallge less than 30 min drive from Lucca) Pisa, and the smaller Tuscan towns that are in the surrounding area. We did some walking (though this time of year its a little hot !) and was even insane enough to drive into Florence (not advised...get the train!). The owners Adrian and Christopher are so helpful and friendly - what more could you need ! We are already looking to book a return holiday here and know will return for many years to come.

Tucked in the hills not far from Lucca, any one the three lovely cottages at Borgo della Madonnina is a great place to stay “away from it all”, but still close enough for day trips to the hill and coastal towns of north west Tuscany, places such as Lucca, Barga, Pescaglia and Montecatini Terme, and Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, and the beautiful Torre del Lago where Puccini did much of his composing. We have been welcomed warmly twice by hosts, Christopher and Adrian, who live in the fourth cottage and who are always ready and willing to help. The cottages are very comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Each has patio space outside where you can sit and enjoy the marvelous surroundings. A restful day beside the pool can make a great change from traveling around the countryside. An added bonus – two really excellent restaurants very close to the cottages. In short, wonderful scenery, clean and comfortable accommodation, and well worth a visit. We certainly hope to go back!

From 30th May to 6th June, we stayed in "La Stalla", the smaller, more secluded, rental house of Borgo della Madonnina. It is, nevertheless, fully equipped with everything needed to make a good holiday including a DVD player (thankfully no TV reception) and a fine selection of DVDs to relax with after a busy day.

Eating and drinking out on the secluded stone terrace overlooking the wooded valley was a joy.

Christopher and Adrian, who live in their own house on the property, are the best of hosts; available to your needs, but not intruding if you just want to do your own thing. Their welcome basket has to be seen to be believed - we didn't need to do a supermarket shopping on the first day.

It would just be possible to stay here without a car, but I don't recommend it and I'd also not recommend it for less mobile folk. Those were the only negative points.

It's a brilliant centre for covering Lucca, Barga (little Scotland), the Cinque Terre and Ligurian Coast and even over to Florence. However if you like to drive on small windy roads, discover out-of-the-way villages, go hiking, etc., this is the place for you.

Chris and Adrian have supplied reams of tourist material, including their recommended restaurants which were totally to our taste. Daniela's "La Fonte", which is not far up the road, was excellent as was the "Molin della Volpe", which you can walk to - no drinking and driving problem there!

One note of caution. Be very hard-hearted with Stella who is a lovely gentle dog, but if you give her any food you'll be pestered for the rest of your visit. Be cruel - you're actually being kind and she'll love you anyway.

There are only a very few places that we'll return to for a holiday (too many places to see and not enough time) and this is one of them.

We'll be back.

My wife and I stayed at Borgo della Madonnina on our honeymoon, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to spend the first days of our marriage!

After a few hectic days in Venice, this tiny hamlet in the hills of Tuscany was just the retreat we were looking for. Half an hour from Lucca, but feeling like it's in the middle of nowhere, Borgo della Madonnina is ideally located.

Our stay in La Stalla was comfortable, cozy, peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was well appointed with all the bits and pieces we needed.

On the days when we ventured away from our hideaway, Lucca, Florence and the beach at Forte dei Marmi were all within easy travelling distance.

Adrian and Christopher are the perfect hosts - always on hand if you need them, discretely invisible if you don't, and with wine chilling in the fridge.

We're already planning to spend our first wedding anniversary in this wonderful place!

Our best holiday ever! We recently stayed at Borgo della Madonnina, in the charming and genuine cottage/mini-villa La Stalla. The location is quiet, private and up in the rolling, green hills outside Lucca. Using the pool feels like one is swimming in the tree-tops! One of our favourite things was just having breakfast or a glass of wine on our secluded stone terrace, in the middle of the amazing, lush nature. The house is decorated and equipped to a modern, comfortable standard, with an excellent shower etc.

Christopher and Adrian, who own Borgo della Madonnina and live in their own house on the property have furnished the houses in a stylish, modern yet appropriate manner for the 18th century building style. They know of every great little local trattoria with delicious food and wine in the villages surrounding Borgo della Madonnina.

We had an extremely romantic, peaceful stay, and are eager to return as soon as possible!

October 1st to October 8th.
My husband and I stayed in "La Stalla", the smaller house of Borgo della Madonnina; it was as nice as on the pictures.
Andrian & Christopher are great hosts, their welcome basket was much bigger than what we had in mind: a very special way to welcome their guests. They have lots of litterature and maps to help planning your vacation in the area. They really make an effort to please their guests: on a last minute notice they organised a personalised cooking day at a nearby farm and they offered me a birthday gift, WOW! BRAVO!
We had everything necessary to prepare and cook meals, it was nice to be able to eat outside on the private terrace. There is a nice small circular staircase to access the second floor where are the bedroom and bathroom. The only missing feature in the house (Italian standards) was a warming towel rack - we got used to it on our previous week in southern Tuscany ! The bed was comfortable but a little too soft for our taste.
The pool was still open but only my husband used it a few times - he does not mind cold water! I preferred to sit, read and relax in a lounge chair besides the pool. Nice and big umbrellas are also a great feature around the pool.
The location is suitable for people who have a car, Lucca is a 20-30 minute drive (depending on Lucca's traffic), the ocean is a 45-60 minute drive (a sporty drive in the mountains with nice villages and great views). One morning we took the train from Diecimo (a 5 minute drive from the Borgo) to La Spezia and to Monterosso in the Cinque Terre where we arrived at 11 am; we walked the 5 villages, had dinner and came back the same evening by train - a fantastic day!
This Borgo is perfect for people who like to be in the country side, drive on small windy roads, discover & visit villages, go on hiking day trips.
Do not miss the restaurant "La Fonte", we went for our last dinner and we were sorry we did not go before. One week goes by fast...
