We came to la Norma on the last day of our holiday in Lucca, having been to a number of the other great restaurants in the town, and we're so glad we did. It is away from the more tourist areas, and therefore seemed a little quiet, but certainly don't let that put you off.

Like other reviewers my wife and I had the €30 tasting menu, which was fantastic. My wife is pregnant and doesn't eat meat - the restaurant staff altered the menu for her perfectly. The food was wonderful and the staff very friendly and polite. We would definately come back again!

Thanks to people staying at the same property for recommending this restaurant. The tasting menu was a real treat and the rest of the menu looked amazing. We would certainly eat there again, if we were back in Lucca. I don't think I can say any more...

We had the good fortune to find this recently opened restaurant during our week in Lucca (thanks to the numerous reviews on trip advisor) and opted for the tasting menu... a tour de force of seafood and vegetarian delights. We had five magnificent mini antipasti, featuring a fabulous tempura prawn set on a bed of aubergine, a chick pea polenta (much better than polenta!), a fabulous caponata, a calamari ring stuffed with aubergine mousse, but all outshone by a truly stunning mini dish of marinated prawn carpaccio topped with buffalo mozzarella, pesto, pistachio and crowned with atomato granita... wow!

There followed a seafood spaghetti, and a wonderfully refined thin steak of swordfish topped with an equally thin crust, cooked in the oven. Magnificent.

A pre-dessert and a dessert followed, accompanied by a glass of moscato d'Asti, a new for us, which was equally fabulous.

For all this and a glass of prosecco to start, the price was 30€ each, to which we added 16€ for a truly excellent Sicilian white wine. 76€ for two, all included? Mad but true.

Add to which relaxed and friendly service in a charming room where we could watch the two chefs at their work, and one could scarcely imagine a nicer place to eat.

The chef does his rounds of the tables when service is drawing to the close, and when we told him the standards were at least Michelin one star, he replied 'no, no, I don't want a star... I prefer to keep it relaxed'

Long may it last!

We ate here twice in one week. We would have eaten here every other night, but we only discovered it on Thursday. The food is fabulous, and at least as good as the Michelin star restaurants we have in France. The chef is Sicilian, and the restaurant has only been open for 2 or 3 months. For our 30 euro tasting menu, we received 5 plus delicious small starters, a pasta dish a beautifully fresh swordfish main course, a pre-dessert, dessert, a glass of Prosecco and a small glass of an amazing Muscato d'Asti. The staff were delightful, spoke good english, and gave a detailed description of everything we ate. I hope they are still here next year, and that they don't become too popular so that I can eat here whenever I want to.
