“Scruffy dosshouse run by theives!”
Reviewed 15 October 2010

We can confirm what the other guests complain of here - that the place is indeed noisy and yes it does stink of sewage.

We booked through LastMinute who debited the entire amount of the stay. On checking out, the crooked manager claimed we'd only booked but not paid, so we had to pay in full a second time. No time to find proof of original payment as we had to rush to the airport.

Despite having a receipt for the cash paid direct to this dosshouse and the receipt for the separate full payment to LastMinute, this dosshouse ignored all requests by email and phone to refund the double payment.

Don't trust these crooks. Book somewhere else!

Althought we originally had some problems finding the door (due to street construction out front) Centro Storico proved to be a delightful place. It IS old, and there is no elevator, so people need to be aware of that. Our "quad" room consisted of one large bedroom (queen bed) with gorgeous murals painted on the ceiling, and one much smaller room with 2 single beds. Air conditioner was located in the smaller room but seemed to get the whole place cool. Carrying our luggage up 3 flights was not the easiest, but we knew about it beforehand, and the desk clerk quickly offered to help with the biggest piece. The bathroom was small and showerhead kind of "leaky" but adequate. We were not expecting the Holiday Inn so had no problem with it. This room would be a good bet for families if mom & dad want the big room and the kids can have the smaller room. Breakfast was served on the 2nd floor, consisted of pastries, juice, toast, and made-to-order coffees like cappuchino or lattes. If I had one complaint, it would be that the room could use another mirror or two somewhere. For 3 or 4 people trying to get ready, the one over the sink in the bathroom was inadequate.

Centro Storico is located on a main shopping street so after you have been to the Tower, and especially if you have teenage girls, there is plenty of good shopping. The Tower is perhaps a 15-20 min. walk, easy to do and much to see (and shop!) along the way.

My first impression was that the B&B was at a great location, not so far from the central station and from the tower.
I had read many positive reviews of this place before booking my staying in Pisa, but I soon realized that in my room there were smell of sewer gas everywhere. I really couldn't stand this fact. The room was large, clean and with high decorated ceilings, but I had to face the bad smell. The shower plate was stuffed up.
The receptionist didn't tell me to keep the keys of my room, so I went out and when I came back at 11 pm I discovered that the main door of the B&B was locked. I had to ring the bell and wait for 5 minutes at least. Then a woman opened the door and she told me that I'd had to bring the keys with me. Bad choice

We stayed here only one night which was lucky. The room (we had a 2 room suite with bath) was nice, during the day the staff was nice and helpful. We had trouble working the AC and the young man had to go up and down 3-4 flights of stairs several times to get instructions from someone on how to use it. The big problem was that all of the electricity (lights and AC) kept cutting in and out every half hour. I think someone had to reset a breaker everytime it cut out. The desk closed before 10 PM so there was no one to reset the breaker after 10. The combination of the heat of August, no lights or AC, having to open the windows to the street (very noisy), my daughter getting eaten by mosquitos due to the open windows and management the next day conveniently not understanding English when we tried to explain what problems we had makes this place the worst place we stayed while in Italy.

2 night stop over after Rome, with intention of visiting florence and Lucca. This little b&b is a narrow, very steep, rustic little place. I think it has been renovated (?!) in keeping with its historic ambience but it may not be for every one. we were happy with our rooms - 2 interconnected family rooms with ensuite shower room (looked like a little medieval flat). Quirky layout, rustic furniture but clean, with fresh crisp bed linen and towels, hot shower, and friendly staff.. Our older teens loved it for its quirkiness and authenticity. Tiny breakfast area and basic continental fare. Very well located on the main historic street for railway station , shops, eats, bars and tourist sights. Might be noisy on summer nights above the main pedestrian street but it never bothered us with kids of 16 and 20. 3 minute walk from river and meeting point for scooters and weekend revellers - all very trouble free. Probably best for a short stay. Pisa is lovely.

We stayed here for one night on our way back from Florence. Our first impression was that the B&B was at a great location...walking distance from the train station on a pedestrian only street where all the shopping was. We were also able to walk to the historical down town area (tower etc..) The room was large, high ceilings...two rooms for two adults and two children with our own private bathroom. It was however on the 3rd floor with no elevator (lots of steps with two little kids!). We also checked in with an attendant who spoke no English. A little challenging, but we got through it!

If you plan to get any sleep however, make sure to bring ear plugs. The noise from the street (just people during all hours of the night!) was pretty bad. Our kids were able to sleep through it since they were in the other room, but my husband and I hardly got a wink. This is during the off season as well!

The breakfast was GREAT. Loved the side board breakfast....cereal, yogurt, pastries, cheese, bread, cold cuts, and cakes. Coffee, cappuccino, hot cocoa for the kids, hot tea. Best part of our stay! And very friendly staff, despite the language barrier.

I wasn't sure what to expect at first, especially because this hotel had no ratings. I chose it because of it's excellent location, just a 15 minute bus ride and 10 minute walk away from the airport! It's also around 15 minutes on foot away from the tower.

We were pleasantly surprised when we went, the rooms are all newly refurbished, very clean and the staff is so friendly! Towels are given so don't worry about that. We were given two complimentary bottles of spumante and a panettone since it was new year's eve and this was greatly appreciated.

Prices are fantastic too, we paid €200 for two nights for 4 beds (I went up with a group of friends). Definitely recommended to friends and family.

  • Liked — Location! Price and cleaniness too
  • Disliked — Quite a few flights of stairs to the dorm room, where we were staying.
