We were a party of four and went following hotel recommendation. The food is local Italian style, very tasty with a good reasonably priced wine list.

Initially they said they had no tables as the outside area was full, but then the boss offered us a 15 min wait or an inside table. We eat inside which was fine - courtyard looked very pleasant.

We had 4 mains, wine, water, 2 desserts with a bill less than 100Euro.

We just arrived in Pisa from Puglia and believe it or not, we were famished! Our hotel concierge at Hotel Bologna recommended this restaurant, less than a 10 minute walk. The restaurant is clean and well appointed but not fancy. The wine list was decent and my wife and I had our normal go-to. She had a sliced beef over arugula and I had their scampi dish. I also had their seafood risotto and she had the cacio de pepe. Both well prepared. We know there are many restaurants in Pisa, but this San Paolo is definitely well worth the trip. Happy travels.

This restaurant is just over the bridge in South Pisa but well worth the walk from the duomo. It has a good atmosphere and friendly service. We had the fish ravioli and the tuna and both were excellent.

Incredible Grouper Ravioli and Steak. Off the beaten path and worth the walk! We dropped in mid afternoon after many hours of travel and they were happy to accommodate. Made a great recommendation for a wine too.

Having been in Cinqueterre and eaten enough fish and seafood to satisfy us for a lifetime (until the next visit at least ...) my hubby was desperate for steak...

We sought this place out via Trip Advisor and were not disappointed.

Bread basket arrived ... the homemade walnut bread is delicious.

We did order the mixed seafood starter for two (be rude but to ...) and it was heavenly. Five different small(ish) tasters and all cooked with a different twist to the way we had experienced similar offerings in Vernazza ... prawns, fish gratin, grilled octopus, squid in a lovely tomato sauce, anchovies.... beautifully presented and each one delicious.

Then hubby had his "Fiorentino" steak ... they brought him the meat to show at 700gm - see the picture. He was happy and he had just this .... no contorni ... why would you??

I ordered the steak with rocket and Parmesan, also pictured .... much better portion size but it was too pink for me (I asked for medium) and also a bit chewy. The bits I ate were delicious and the steak flavour a welcome change from seafood overload.

We washed the first course down with house white, the second with house red .... all good value but the wine list was extensive and prices were good.

I finished off with the homemade Tiramisu ... also pictured.

With the exception of Graham's 700gm steak (priced at 4 Euro per 100gm) the rest of the menu is unbelievably inexpensive. White linen, polite, well dressed waiters who discreetly flutter around and cannot do enough for you. We had a lot of food for not a lot especially comparing it to similar dining experiences in the Cinqueterre...

This place is not on the beaten tourist track so needs seeking out .. one block away from the river btw. We checked it out in the afternoon as we percolated back to our hotel, made a reservation for dinner and then percolated back ...

Worth the effort if you're in Pisa ...!
