“Lovely for a short stay in Pisa”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. When we arrived at Pisa airport we rang reception and a driver collected us shortly afterwards. This service is offered free of charge only when you book directly through the hotel. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The rooms are small but very clean and the beds were comfortable, the free water from the mini bar is a lovely touch.

Breakfast was just perfect, there was a lovely selection of fresh fruit nicely cut up each morning and you could have this with some yogurt. There was also a nice selection of ham and cheeses from around the area and eggs and bacon. What I really liked was that all items were replenished regularly as soon as they were low. It was also so nice to be able to make your own fresh orange juice each morning.

You can walk to the tower in about 20 minutes and it is a lovely stroll. The hotel offers Very good value and the only negative was the walls are paper thin and there was a lot of street noise as our room was in the front of the hotel despite asking for a room in the back when we had booked months in advance. It is located on a busy little street so there is a lot of noise, for this reason I only gave 4 stars but I am sure if your room was in the back everything would be perfect ! But for me I would prefer to stay somewhere a little quieter if I were to return.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front at way too noise but the hotel is small so you will not be guaranteed one to the...

Arrived at the hotel and a very unfriendly receptionist gave us our key and a map, no info on breakfast times or wifi, we assumed these would be available in the room. There was no-one to help with our bags and when we got to our room there was 3 suit cases already there. Back down to reception and it turned out that the room was originally allocated to another couple but they had requested a change because they did not like the room. We did not blame them, a boring box room that overlooked a small square concrete section that had the constant humming of the kitchen. Sad decoration that could badly do with an uplift and old appliances. If it had not been for the fact that we were only staying 1 night before moving on to Florence we would have changed as well. Then we tried to find the code for the wifi but that was not in the room, used to phone to call reception for this info only to find out the phone did not work, so another trip downstairs. My wife washed her hair, went to use the hair drier and it fell apart in her hands. Later, after we returned from dinner we went into the bar for a nightcap, but there was no staff, then someone did arrive but he could not serve us because he was not the bartender, we would have to wait until she came back, 2 other people arrived, the 4 of us waited. We were just about to give up when the girl finally arrived, a good 10 minute wait!. Went down for breakfast, not sure how many rooms this hotel has but with only 15 or 16 tables, we had to queue and wait to be seated. Breakfast was nice however. Paid our bill to another unfriendly receptionist who literally snatched my card from my hand, without even a thank you let alone a smile. We could not wait to get away. This is not the worse hotel I have stayed in but it is certainly the worse for that sort of money, at over £100 for a night this is simply not acceptable.

The location of this hotel was ideal for the sights of Pisa and for the train station to visit surrounding areas (we travelled to Lucca and Florence). The hotel was clean and tidy and staff we came across were friendly. The rooms were basic, though comfortable for all your needs.Breakfast was acceptable for a city hotel, though seating could be tight and sharing with others was needed. We was disappointed with the 'bar area' within this hotel. If you was lucky enough to get served; there was never a bar attendant, you had to catch a passing member of staff or ask at reception; and the seating area was at the end of the dining/breakfast room in a dimly lit area.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the road can be noisy with passing traffic.

Second time I have stayed here and I have been very impressed on both occasions. We had a suite and it was like a little apartment, really spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The hotel has a calm and relaxing atmosphere, the staff are polite and welcoming, from the driver who transported us from and then back to the airport, to the reception staff and the cleaners. Breakfast is fantastic. Location superb. Pisa is great for a short break. Cheap but nice restaurants are just over the river, those near the tower open all day and don't mind if you just have a plate of pasta. The palazzo bleu has fantastic exhibitions and is accessible to English speakers. For day trips, we visited Florence, Lucca and pietrasanta, all fabulous. The cinque terre is one of the most wonderful areas, especially monterosso. All in all, you can't go wrong. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel is in a narrow street in the old part of the city but has been tastefully modernised in the public areas. Our room was traditional style with a small bathroom which had been built into the room space. There were very welcome tea/coffee facilities, a reasonably priced mini-bar, free wi-fi and a free safe. The hotel was very clean, the staff were kind and helpful and they even supplied us with an umbrella on a rainy day. During the afternoon, there is a selection of pastries and cakes in the reception area, free of charge, for guests and in the evening a selection of bread, cheese, meats, salad and nibbles. Breakfast is varied and plentiful to set you up for the day. Pisa railway station is less than 10 minutes walk in one direction and the historical sights of Pisa 15 minutes in the other direction.
In other reviews 'a free shuttle' is mentioned but we paid 5 euros per person to return to the airport from the hotel.
All in all, we were extremely satisfied with our stay in the Hotel Bologna.

Room Tip: The hotel is old and a bit like a 'rabbit warren' so cannot comment.

Room is spacious and good location. It takes 10-15 min walk to see the leaning tower.
They provide free shuttle service to the station and airport.

部屋は普通ですが、ヨーロッパのホテルにしては広めでした。無料で空港、駅まで送り迎えしてくれました。

I booked this hotel at the last minute, having cancelled my room at a 5* hotel after reading on here of its wi-fi problems. My single room was a cheap as chips (through Last Minute but there are good deals when booking direct). It was basic but very comfortable. It had a safe, VERY reasonably priced mini-bar, complimentary toiletries and tea/ coffee making facilities. The wi-fi, which I needed for work, gave a speedy connection and I did not need to keep logging in, as is so often the case. The hotel’s location is good; a couple of minutes away from a main shopping street and a pleasant stroll of 20 minutes to the Tower. The breakfast was the usual buffet with fresh Italian coffee made to order. Guests can use the orange juice machine for a delicious glass of freshly squeezed juice. There was a free sampling of Tuscan treats every evening. The staff spoke impeccable English and were helpful and friendly. I am glad I changed hotels. I nearly ranked this as "excellent" as in many respects it is. However, it lacked some luxurious touches such as fluffy towels and the air con was not yet switched on, so that when I felt hot I had to open my window onto a noisy street. Nonetheless, if I return to Pisa, I would stay here again and highly recommend it.
