We stayed at the San Ranieri in June 2012. Check in was quick although the guy who checked us in was anything but friendly. The room was modern, quite small but had all the amenities you needed. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport which made it very easy.
There is a bus stop outside the hotel and the bus takes you straight into the centre of Pisa. We didn't think there was much to do in Pisa and found the leaning tower to be more of a tilting tower so instead of spending another day in Pisa, we opted to travel to Florence on the Sunday. It was 11 euro each and took just under an hour to get there. Florence is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit.
Breakfast at the hotel was underwhelming but adequate. It is clearly more a business hotel but a great price if you are looking for a cheap weekend break and it is likely to be cheaper than staying in Florence so may be an option if you are looking to visit there given the great transport links.
