We had a fabulous lunch here thanks to TA reviews. Antica Taverna is tucked away in a gorgeous little tunnel/alley just inside the walls at the San Matteo gate. A nice small, cool and friendly spot to rest the weary legs after exploring the area. Local produce is well utilized here, the interior is quaint, the staff friendly and efficient, the Bruscetta delicious. Whilst there are 90 Bruscetta's to choose from, we could only manage 1 each this sitting. If Attica was open Thursdays, we'd definately have gone back to sample some others.

“Bruschetta e vino fantastico”
Reviewed 12 March 2009

Antica Taverna is a real find. Tucked away in a small alleyway in the north of the walled part of San Gimignano. To find it enter through Porta San Matteo, turn sharp right and follow the alley.

The tavern is a small vaulted room with around a ½ dozen tables. It would be an ideal location to spend a romantic evening or with a small group of friends for either wine or bruschetta. The owners are very welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed.

They offer a fantastic selection of wines, by the bottle or glass. There is a bewildering and delicious selection of 90 different types of bruschetta to choose from. The Greto delle Fate, Morellino di Scansano (€4 glass) and Le Fornaci Chianti Colli Senesi (€3.0 glass) we drank were both excellent.

At the time of writing they are closed all day Thursday and shut up shop at 9.30 on the other evenings. Certainly worth a return trip.
