We had the most amazing time staying at Agriturismo Guardastelle last September. It is definitely at the top of most special places we have ever stayed in (and we do make an effort to find special places for our holidays!). We stayed in the Antilia apartment, which looks just as beautiful (or actually even better!) as on the photo's that are on the webpage. The beds are very comfortable, and the kitchen and two bedrooms and bathrooms are each decorated in a different style and colour, making the place feel very special. The kitchen is one of the original parts of the house, and is very large and makes a lovely place to sit down and relax. There is also a large outdoor sitting area, which is very private and has views over the vineyards and olive trees surrounding the property. The breakfast terrace has views over San Gimignano, and can be used by anybody to relax and look at the view after breakfast has finished. There is also a pool surrounded by beautiful gardens, making the whole place just perfect for a relaxing holiday. They also showed us the other apartments just before we left, and they are all as beautiful. The accommodation is only a few minute drive drive from San Gimignano (or a 30 minute walk through the fields), which we thought was a nice place to visit, have ice cream and go for a stroll.

In addition to being such a special place to stay, the owners were just lovely. This makes such a difference, and Fausto and Susanna really made us feel at home. They are always happy to answers questions, and work really hard to make everything run smoothly. They produce their own wine and olive oil, and we went for 'wine tasting and lunch' which was one of the nicest things we did during our whole holiday. They showed us how they produced the wine, which tastes very nice. We were drinking their wine each evening during our stay and took a bottle home as well! We are already thinking about when to go back again ...

Room Tip: All apartments are amazing and individually decorated, the main difference is how many people can st...

If you wish upon a star and are really really lucky you will find yourself in a little piece of heaven named Guardastelle pampered by angels Fuasto,Susanna and Roberta. You'll even meet angel in training Niccolo. My wife Lorri and I had long dreamed of a Tuscan vacation to celebrate our retirements. When you look at places on-line you don't know if the pictures and descriptions are accurate or an embellishment. This can sometimes result in a nightmare. But from the moment we drove up the cypress tree lined and curiously glistening entrance to Guardastelle we saw scenery so achingly beautiful that we had to keep pinching our selves to be sure it was not a dream but rather a dream come true. The accommodations, the wine and olive oil tasting, the pool, the communal breakfasts(with a fascinating array of people from all over the word sharing their experiences) are all magnificent. The day trips into the lovely county side or historic Tuscan cities offer an abundance of activities. Sometimes you want a respite from the whirlwind that a vacation can become and this is where Guardastelle reveals it's hidden charms. Throughout the property are these delightful oases of quiet beauty where one can sit and enjoy a good book or a great bottle of wine. But the true treasure of Guardastelle is the people who run it. And I use the word run in the literal sense, Susanna should have wings on her sneakers and Fausto though not quite as rapid of movement seems to be in several different places at once as they go from task to task making sure everything is perfect. But as busy as they are they always have time for their guests. Not simply to answer your questions, make suggestions or help arrange itineraries but to find out about who you are. Quite simply they care deeply and that warmth is felt by those who stay here and what makes Guardastelle such a special place. As if all this isn't enough there is Roberta who each morning serves breakfast with smiles that assure a wonderful start to your day. She is also the unofficial tutor because after spending a few minutes with her you find that words like grazie prego, boungiorno, ciao, and pergola have become part of your vocabulary and you don't know how. There is something magical about Guardastelle and as we left I realized what made the road glisten. It is the sun reflecting on the tears of departing guests,

We so enjoyed staying at Guardastelle for a night in October. The Sibilla room, which we were staying in, was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and spacious. Fausto and Susanna and the rest of the staff were very helpful and nice people. The pool area with a view was pleasant as well as the rest of the buildings and the beautiful surroundings. Very romantic and relaxing place. One can tell they put a lot of effort and love into their agriturismo. Only thing we missed was a restaurant for lunch and dinner, but there were a couple of restaurants at walking distance, and San Gimignano, a 5-min drive away offered cozy restaurants and shopping. Too bad we could stay for longer!

Thanks Fausto and Susanna!

If you want the tranquility of the Tuscan countryside with the convenience of a hilltop town on your doorstep - San Giminagno is a 20 minute walk away. It will be difficult to beat Guardastelle.
You have luxurious and attractive accommodation either bed and breakfast or self catering (and you can combine them) on a wine farm run by a talented young couple Fausto and Susanna. The breakfast is made by your own attentive local "Nonna" Roberta. It is served on a terrace which overlooks the Sienese hills dominated by San Gim.
The attention (when you want it) is offered graceously. We left feeling that we had been cared for by friends. As seasoned travellers who use small boutique hotels, we have seldom enjoyed ourselves so much. This is a gem that truly offers an unforgettable experience Thank you Susanna and Fausto (Wendy & Peter)

My wife, daughter and partner spent 10 days at Guardestelle as part of a 3 week Italy tour and with out a doubt was the best part of our trip. Rome, venice and florence were all great, but Guardestelle was the highlight of our stay, and we all promised to return as it was the one place we could not do without on our next trip.

Photos do not do it justice and with our hire car it was the perfect place to explore other locations from. Being able to watch early mornings and evenings overlooking the countryside was a treat every day and Susanna and Fausto were the best unobtrusive but caring hosts.

Until the next time.

You know how you research a place and when you get there, it's not quite all it claimed to be? Not Guardastelle! Guardastelle went far beyond our expectations. It was a dream come true. We stayed in the Orione apartment for the last week in September, between the grape and olive harvests. Everything about the apartment, the grounds, the views, the service and even the weather was perfect in every way. The views from every angle of the apartment, out every window, were masterpiece paintings. Breathtaking. The apartment itself was large, immaculate and exquisitely appointed with everything we needed to live in luxury as Italians for the week. Our own private patio was covered in rose vines producing blooms the size of your fist. Suzanna and Fausto were such gracious hosts, we had to remind ourselves that we weren't actually family. We loved the wine tasting, learning about the art of making wine in the finest region in the world. On two mornings we were greeted with hot air balloons drifting silently in the valley. The sense of intimacy and privacy felt like we had the place to ourselves, except at breakfast when we gathered with similarly happy guests and shared our travels with each other. We gazed upon beautiful San Gimignano basking in the morning sun just a kilometer away. Breakfast with bubbly Roberta (we miss her) serving perfect cappuccinos on the balcony was a wonderful way to start the day. Having visited nearly a dozen Italian towns and cities, San Gimignano was hands down our favorite, especially in the evening. You simply cannot pick a better, more centrally located base camp than Guardastelle. Guardastelle itself was a storybook memory. I guarantee the only disappointment you'll have is the inevitable departure. You will drive away dreaming of your return. Guardastelle was included in our Best of Tuscany tour out of Florence. Fausto was our guide for the tour of his vinyard and olive farm. We were blown away by the views and especially the one of San Gimignano. We are seriously considering renting the villa for our next vacation to Italy. Fausto is a wonderful host.
