“Beautiful, quiet, like a dream.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

We we arrived at Poggio Alloro on June 9 after a hectic, busy, nonstop tour of Rome, my wife and I wandered down to the pool. No one was there, and we sat by the pool, just the two of us, and took in the amazing view of the farm and the pond and San Gimignano off in the distance. The only sounds were birds chirping and the occasional moo of a cow. My wife actually got teary-eyed, it was so quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. That was common during our three day stay. Tour buses stop everyday in the afternoon for a couple of hours to have lunch and look around, but the rest of the time the grounds are completely quiet and amazingly peaceful. We got an apartment, which has a small kitchen and living area along with a bedroom and bathroom. It was the perfect amount of space for two. I ran for an hour (about six miles) on two days of our stay, and counted a total of four cars the entire time. You are truly out in the country, and it was exactly what we wanted. The food was awesome, all of it homemade and organic, nearly all of it made from the animals and crops that are right in front of you during your stay. Both nights that we had dinner, we stayed and drank wine until after midnight with other couples who were staying there also. The waitresses just told us to turn off the lights to the patio when we decided to go to bed! I don't know what it would be like to visit family in the countrysides of Italy, but this has got to be the closest thing to it. After a three day stay at Poggio Alloro, my wife said she wanted to move there permanently and just offer the staff her services as flower waterer or pool girl. Of our 11-day tour of Italy, Poggio Alloro was the highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: Get an apartment for a little extra space.

Did not stay here, just came for lunch. Grounds absolutely beautiful. Food stunning - delicious pasta, cheese, salad and cold cuts. Wine delicious and tastings by the bottle. Amazing! One of our best meals of the trip.

I can honestly say that staying at Fattoria Poggio Alloro was the highlight of our three week trip to Europe. We originally were only going to stay here for three nights but decided to extend our stay to four nights...and then the morning we were supposed to leave, decided to just make our trip even longer and stay for the afternoon to just linger and soak it all up before our flight back home. We celebrated our 1st year anniversary there and they made us feel so special!

This place made us immediately feel like we were a part of the Fioroni family. The more we learned the history of the farm and how much soul there is behind each and everything they do, we were amazed that this place and this family actually exist. We are still in such awe of the way they farm, how their organic farming process is what their family has been doing this for decades. It is truly a family-run farm. We highly recommend asking tons of questions, going on any tour they give, eating most of your meals there, taking the cooking class and buying the family cookbook by Sara Fioroni.

The entire staff work from early in the morning to late at night. They are so dedicated and have the most amazing attitudes all day long. You know a place is special when all of their staff work so hard to make sure the guests get the best experience they can have. It seems like each person is constantly moving around, talking with guests, taking people on tours, giving advice for the area, leading wine tastings, setting out lunch and dinner, bussing the tables - truly remarkable service. And always with a smile.

The view alone is worth just even the trip and wine tasting. But to get the full experience and to truly feel a part of this special family, I would recommend staying here for as long as you can. You will never be bored, you will always be full from the delicious food, your soul will always be at rest, and your eyes will always be in complete shock by the beauty around you.

We cannot wait to go back and bring other people just so they can get a taste of another way of life and to feel like family with the Fioroni's.

Sara, thank you for all of your help during our stay and your friendship. I can't wait until we see you again!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are good. Seriously you cannot go wrong!!

This is a truly special place. The people, food, wine and views were second to none. If you're planning to visit Tuscany, this is an absolute must!

My wife and I spent five nights on the farm in May. Sarah and the entire staff were great. She helped us map out several day trips from the farm and gave us many great recommendations. Everyone was attentive and helpful. But the more important quality was the feeling of hominess. It's a family operation and that feeling sunk into all of our experiences on the farm.

Also, when you stay, don't miss out on dinner! We had four dinners on the farm. I wish we'd had a fifth the one night we went elsewhere! We only had one other dinner during our two weeks in Italy that came close to those meals. Multiple courses of fresh and fantastic food... washed down with wonderful wine and great conversation with other guests. The price is fantastic as well. A great time and great value.

Overall, I'd go back to Poggio Alloro in a heartbeat. The San Gimignano is a great location for daytrips. You can see a lot of Tuscany in an hour and a half or less driving. And the local area is great as well. Most importantly, spending time on the farm is a treasure. Again, the people, food, win and views (in that order!) were fantastic.

We recently chose this Villa as the place to spend the last five days of our 16 day tour of Italy. After all the hustle and bustle of Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan, we all breathed a sign of relief as we pulled into this working organic farm and winery. We were immediately greeted by owner/manager/Sommelier/chef Sara with a welcome bottle of wine and snacks for our group of two couples. We immediately shifted into a more relaxed mode for the remainder of our stay. Farmhouse breakfasts and dinners each day were excellent, with dinners far exceeding our expectations! During our days we toured nearby San Gimignano, Siena and others as we stopped to sample more than a few wines. returning to the Villa for our 8pm dinner each evening was a treat. These 5-6 course simple, yet elegant meals generally lasted until almost 11pm by the time the Limoncello and Grappa was consumed! The wines were all plentiful and direct from the farm's excellent winery. Accommodations were simple but comfortable. We chose this Villa at random through our local AAA but it was a winner in every aspect! There are bus tour groups that visit during the day, but we were always out in the surrounding area and missed most of them. It was a pleasure sharing dinner each evening with the other 6-8 guests and the incredibly hospitable staff.

Room Tip: We had rooms surrounding the courtyard and our views of nearby SanGimignano were amazing!

We really enjoyed visiting here and had a very nice lunch with a wine tasting paired with each course. We were on a tour out of Florence with Walkabout Tours. So needless to say it was busy with bus loads of people. But, the staff managed very well and were very friendly. The tour of the farm was nice, food and wine were very good. Views were breathtaking.

We stopped here on a day tour out of Florence for a tour of the organic farm and vineyards and then a lunch and wine tasting on a gorgeous terrace overlooking the vineyard and with San Gimignano in the distance. It became clear that this was a popular place to take tourists, as numerous busloads of people were coming in and being shuttled off for tours of the farm. Our group also had a lunch on the terrace, which was quite nice. Bruschetta with their own olive oil, pasta with a meat sauce, cured meats and cheeses, paired with three table wines, and then some vin santo with cantuccini to end the experience. Plenty of extra of each course that was offered around for those still hungry (or who couldn't refuse!). Of course there was wine and assorted goods that could be purchased in the shop, but no pressure to buy anything. Definitely a great experience!
