Our experience was not as bad as that of other reviewers. We occasionally choose restaurants randomly without forming a pre-judgment based on TripAdvisor reviews and - in Italy, at least - rarely regret it. This was one of the cases where I am left kicking myself. Beppone is located on a narrow side street not far from Duomo, the door across being that of a pricey Michelin-rated establishment. On the window menu, Beppone's prices are not that outrageous, so people who cannot get (or decided against it) into the other places naturally end up at Beppone. Unlike standard Italian practice, though, Beppone insists on adding 15% service charge on top of your bill. They all charged us twice our accustomed rate for the simple pasta in bianco for our small kids. That contributed to the largest bill for any meal that we had in two weeks in Italy. Food itself was not bad, from bruschetta to pasta to pizza, but hardly exceptional. Kids were serving as waiters - not sure if that is because of how the place is run by the family or due to some staff shortages. By the middle of our meal, I could have predicted all the reviews that I eventually read on TripAdvisor. Certainly, not an experience to be repeated.
