Our experience was not as bad as that of other reviewers. We occasionally choose restaurants randomly without forming a pre-judgment based on TripAdvisor reviews and - in Italy, at least - rarely regret it. This was one of the cases where I am left kicking myself. Beppone is located on a narrow side street not far from Duomo, the door across being that of a pricey Michelin-rated establishment. On the window menu, Beppone's prices are not that outrageous, so people who cannot get (or decided against it) into the other places naturally end up at Beppone. Unlike standard Italian practice, though, Beppone insists on adding 15% service charge on top of your bill. They all charged us twice our accustomed rate for the simple pasta in bianco for our small kids. That contributed to the largest bill for any meal that we had in two weeks in Italy. Food itself was not bad, from bruschetta to pasta to pizza, but hardly exceptional. Kids were serving as waiters - not sure if that is because of how the place is run by the family or due to some staff shortages. By the middle of our meal, I could have predicted all the reviews that I eventually read on TripAdvisor. Certainly, not an experience to be repeated.

Basically a very poor experience all round. The "service" (if you can call it service) is bad, the prices are outrageous and the food is certainly no where near of what you should expect from Italian cuisine. The worst thing is that, not only are the owners obviously ripping off tourists with the prices, they also charge 2 euros per person for the 'Coperto' which is a charge for cutlery etc but they also add a 15% Service charge on everything which is probably border line illegal as you cannot charge a service fee on a non service items. To top it all, they don't take credit cards so they probably only claim a small percentage of their dishonest revenue to the authorities.
There are enough bad comments to substantiate the clear fact that you should avoid this restaurant at all costs. It is always sad to see people like this create a bad name for the honest Italians and all the great restaurants but ultimately it is up to the consumer to put these thieves out of business. Bottom line - don't go there......even if you are starving !

Pizzas boasts to be the original from Naples and they did taste good but a tad too watery the tomato base and way overpriced at 12 euros for a plain ham and cheese one when average prices for a pizza is 6 to 8 euros.
My prawn linguini cost 15 euros and only had one prawn !
Ambience and service was good enough but by worth the extra prices. Be prepared to have cash on you too as no credit cards accepted.

There are lots of excellent restaurants and bars in San Gimignano, but not Beppone! It was an absolute 'rip off' with a 15% service charge, 2 euros per person cover charge (for nothing), highly inflated prices (e.g. a pizza cost 13-15 euros) and we were 'conned' into believing that they didn't have glasses of wine, so we needed to buy a bottle - an extortionate 35 euros. There were 4 of us and we were each served with our pizzas at different times with a lengthy wait between the arrival of each one. A green salad, costing 5.50 euros, consisted of 6 small bits of iceberg lettuce. Service was appalling and, all in all, this was the worst dining experience we have ever had in Italy. Never again - the owners and staff must get some sort of pleasure out of conning tourists but it was a very nasty experience.
