If you don't have a weak stomach, this is a must-see. Torture of all kinds for all kinds of people for all kinds of reasons. From simple to devilish. See it and try to forget it before going to sleep that night!

“Chilling tales”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

The museum of torture has some very chilling tales of torture. I took my 8-year-old son and my 18-year-old niece. My son loves creepy stuff and enjoyed this small museum but I think he did find a few of the descriptions a little scary. (Tried to shield him from a few of the more disturbing torture descriptions!) My niece was "creeped out"!

This is one of several fun things to see in beautiful San Gimignano!

I read it is best to go to SG in the afternoon after the bus tours leave and that is exactly what we did. Not too packed with people at all.

“This Is a Chain!!!”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

There are branches of the Museum of Torture in many of these little Tuscan towns. We went to the one in Montepulciano and cracked up when we saw another in San Gimignano. Skip it. And San Gimignano itself is way too heavily touristed anyway--see a different Tuscan town that has more to offer than touristy ceramics stores.

“be prepaired”
Reviewed 24 May 2012

As lovers of all kinds of history we, couldn't go to San Grimignano and not visit the torture museum. There are over 100 instruments of execution and torture. Some people may fine it quite desturbing but in a way that is part of the attraction. It is very well set out and there are diagrams and history with each piece explaining how and why it was used. It makes you realise just how lucky we are. Take a deep breath and see it as it's one attraction you won't forget,
