We love it here, so much indeed that we extended our original stay by 10 days and still three and a half weeks was not enough! The location is fabulous, Alessandro's cooking is excellent and the best value in the area and the new terrace was a joy to sit out on. As well as our usual trips to Sienna etc we ventured further south this year, the scenery is breathtaking and the wine fabulous. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Again we spent our summer holidays at Il Casale del Cotone. It felt like coming home while there is also always something new to discover. For example the newly built terrace offers a great setting for the delicious barbecues of which we enjoyed three this year. As always we spent very happy days at Il Casale del Cotone including interesting trips to locations like Firenze and Lucca but also time to relax at the beautiful pool-area. We strongly hope to come back again next year!

This year we stayed again in the Casale for two weeks and it was a perfect holiday.
Because of the warm weather we didn't visit a lot, what is no problem because you can relax and enjoy a glass of ice cold wine in the garden or the swimming pool.
Alessandro cooks every two days what is very convenient and turns out to be a wonderful evening.
We will book again next year.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week-long stay at Il Casale del Cotone. It was suggested that we stay at this establishment by a woman from Torino who was visiting Sanibel Island, Florida. I hope she reads this review so that she can know what a gift she gave us.
We loved the location of Il Casale del Cotone, just outside of San Gimignano, with easy access to a variety of excellent cities in Tuscany to visit each day. Baota, the lovely young woman who served us breakfast and kept our room sparkling clean during the week added to the pleasure of staying in this hotel. Alessandro Martelli, the proprietor and chef for several dinners served during the week, was professional and friendly, no matter which hat he was wearing. We enjoyed the pool after a day of sightseeing in other cities. Having a small car added to the pleasure and ease of driving the circuitous roads in the area. We loved staying in the building across the street from the main building as it had a quiet, beautiful patio to enjoy morning or evening. Many wonderful people from around the world joined us on the patio, and conversation was lively and interesting. This place is a winner for us!

This was our fourth visit to Alessandro Martelli's wonderful family home which he has turned into a 19-room hotel with glorious Tuscan views in every direction. Alessandro was a bachelor when we first met. He is now married with two small children but still has that dreamy Italian air about him. George Clooney is what many Americans think now when they first meet him. He and his staff are tireless in their efforts to make your stay enjoyable. Alessandro is now serving dinner on the terrace every other night. As other reviewers have stated, it is not to be missed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Most have one but it is possible to get a room with a terrace that opens...

I would recommend this B&B 100%. I nicknamed it the paradise B&B - it was so heavenly!

Our room was beautiful, traditionally decorated and very clean. The views from the room across the Tuscan hills were just stunning.

Definitely stay for the meals in the evening - they are not offered every evening but WOW they are fantastic and well worth every penny.

We used a taxi service to and from the B&B each day to get to town but most of the other guests used hire cars to get them around the local area.

I will be booking to go back next year. Thank you Alessandro, Baloo and all the staff at Il Casale del Cotone for making our trip so wonderfully memorable.

There's so much to remember about this place. It's a beautifully renovated, family
run, villa in the midst of great scenery, about 3km outside San Gimignano. It's a B&B, so you can't expect everything that an hotel has to offer. The rooms are basic, but perfectly serviceable (my wife needed more hanging space for her clothes, but that's a common concern). It's a bit of a bore having to lock your room and the exit door each time you leave, but again, it's a B&B.

Alessandro, the owner is a formidable figure. I get the impression that he's put this together, almost single handedly and he is ever present - delightful and concerned. Two key things spring to mind:

1. Dinner. You can't eat dinner there every night, but every other day, Alessandro cooks up what is a gourmet evening. Course after course appears, all delicious and beautifully prepared. Beware though, it's a big meal and just when you think you're moving onto dessert another plate of cooked meat or fish appears. It was beautiful, but we wished we'd not eaten for two days beforehand.

2. Public space. Once you get back from a day climbing San Gimignano, you could do with a drink and a sit down in a public space. Again, it's aB&B, but it is crying out for a third space.

The hotel has a lovely swimming pool - just right - take your trunks.
