Agriturismo Il Vecchio Maneggio
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 18 August 2011

Tiziana and her family and crew are fantastic. They go out of their way to make your stay at Il Vecchio Maneggio comfortable and relaxing. They’re easy going, and full of great advice and helpful tips and suggestions. The rooms are charming. Not huge or overly fancy, but charming! – very welcoming and decorated with warmth and character. The meals – breakfast and dinner – are fabulous! Breakfast is conveniently served buffet style, and includes a wide variety of choices to satisfy anyone’s tastes. The very generous, multi-course dinners (which often include local specialties, and are always home cooked by Tiziana and her crew) are delicious and filling. More than that, they are served family style and Tiziana always has lots of stories to kick-off the conversation. By the end of the meal (or the end of the week or weekend!) you’ve shared travel tips and suggestions and personal anecdotes with other guests as you savor your pasta, cheese and farm fresh honeys, and sip a glass of wine…and you feel like part of the family! Il Vecchio Maneggio is located in the heart of Tuscany. It’s a 10 minute drive from San Gimignano (clear views of the towns towers from Il Vecchio Maneggio’s patio, dining hall and some rooms). Many other popular Tuscan destinations are an easy drive: Sienna, Montepulciano, Radda, Castellina, Monteriggione… or even north to Pisa, Lucca and others. It’s an ideal location to explore Tuscany and Chianti regions. Or…spend a day simply relaxing by the pool, or riding on horseback through the vineyards. It’s all wonderful!

During the last five years We have been to various parts of Italy seven times for a holiday, but our stay in July at Tiziana´s and Mauro´s farm was by far the best of all. From the very beginning, when arriving the recepion was warm like coming to see old friends. Tiziana, Mauro and their team were working busily, but every time when you happened to take something up they were ready to help you. Like we asked Tiziana about their honey production, she personally wanted to show and explain the production. Similarly, one afternoon when we were sitting outside our room, Mauro, just while going by, asks, if we wanted something to drink and insisted bringing us refreshments - in the middle of his busy work. And not to forget the ladies, who came each morning to bake cakes and pastries for the breakfast.

The absolute culmination of the day was the family dinner prepared and served by Tiziana and Mauro with their bigger or less bigger assistants. Needless to say that the variety and amount of food represented the best of Tuscanian cuicine. To us it was a memorable experience to be a part of the "family": we were so warmly welcomed also by all other guests, who had come from different parts of the country. We were impressed to see the sense of humor, vividness and positiveness of our new Italian friends at Vecchio Maneggio. We experienced something real Italianissomo! Il nostro soggiorno nel Vecchio Maneggio e stato un`esperienza indimeticabile!

This is an agriturismo.

Unbelievable feast with other guests (and sometimes Tiziana's family) that last from 8 - 11 pm; generous breakfast; fabulous pool with great country views, can see the town's towers from the property. It is also a farm - horses (rides extra), honey and olive oil.

Rooms are nothing to write home about. Very clean, small and basic. Don't come here if you want your room to be appointed on top of the all the benefits listed.

When we recount our two week vacation trip, this is one of the first three things we mention!

Go!

It was my first time at an Agriturismo and it was great. The rooms are clean, the dinner and breakfast are very good and the location of the Farmhouse is perfect. The Hostess Tiziane and her husband make your stay wonderful and fun.

Tiziana was wonderful-- the accommodations and food were terrific. She was especially helpful when our rental car would not start-- spent a long time on the phone with the rental agency on our behalf and even loaned us 100 Euros cash to make sure we would have enough to pay the taxi that took us to Siena to pick up the replacement rental car. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends. One tip though-- don't eat lunch because you'll want to save room for the 7 course dinner :)

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mermerana room and liked it.

A working Italian farm in the most scenic part of Tuscany with a view of the San Gimignano towers, and a warm host that insists on fattening you up. What more can you want?

Everything the other reviews say about Titziana is true - she is like you loving aunt back home that loves to feed you, and gets mad if you don't eat enough :) Even though our group had dietary constraints, she went out of her way to accommodate our needs. We ate, we drank, we sang, and then we slept.

And one time, we were hanging out by the pool, and Titziana comes by with a carafe of wine and some glasses. Excellent stuff.

The location is great too - right by San Gimig, and close to several other places such as Sienna, Firenzi etc.

The only minor issues are that the rooms are basic (but clean), but in any case, the point is to spend time outside the rooms. Also, we wished the farmhouse was a bit more picturesque and expansive, but the grounds made up for this.

Room Tip: All are pretty similar.

We have arrived too late at that day at San Gimignano, without having any accommodation reserved. The girl at the information center offered Il Vecchio Maneggio, asking for 10% of the payment - my father was suspicious...
We arrived at the farm just before dinner. Miss. Tiziana, the owner, the general manager, the chef and the chief of entertainment welcomed us with a "Welcome to my home!" call right when we entered. She showed us our rooms and invited us for a drink right after we put our luggage in the rooms. Then it all started.
We sat at the end of a long dining table that is placed in the main living room of the house. On the same long table there were three other families - from England and Italy.
First, there was the opening drink - white home made wine. Then began the meal. Our best meal in Italy. So much food. Everything was so tasty. Everything was served with a non-stop supply of red home made wine. There were four courses, each course contains several different dishes and you have to taste all of them, as mommy is watching you :)
This was a great experience. Even though our family has an agricultural background, it was a real Italian/Toscanic experience. This is, without doubt, the best experience we had in Italy.

The rooms are small and the bathrooms are even smaller. But after the evening experience, we didn't care. We wanted to stay there for another night but there were no rooms available. We'll definitely come back!

BTW, there was a swimming pool but it was not warm enough outside to use it.
