Podere San Luigi
Reviewed 12 July 2011

Stayed here 7 years ago & will never forget it because it was truely magnificent! It was my 40th birthday & I had prompised myself that I would see Florence & the best of Tuscany & I did! The apartment was so tastefully renovated & furnished. Right down to the crockery the whole apartment just sang "Tuscany"! The gardens are sublime! Beautiful fat roses & fruit trees. Mario & Annalinda are a mine of information & so helpful without being intrusive. They make great recommendations as to places to eat/visit etc. We ate in nearby Certaldo or San Gimignano most nights-devine. Recommend visits to Sienna & Volterra. The surrounding countryside is stunning. We went in June & the pool was bliss. I have never slept in a bigger or more comfortable bed. Podere San Luigi is the placeyou think you only can dream about! (S. Billing/C.Mackay).

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing

I couldn't have chosen a better place to have stayed for my week in San Gimignano. I stayed in the Panorama Apartment and the views are stunning, it was comfortable and very clean. The owners were lovely and helpful. They also keep the gardens beautifully and ensure the swimming pool is sparkling. I recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay close to San Gimignano but being far enough away to feel they are in the heart of the Tuscan countryside in peace and quiet.

Me and my partner lived last August a fabulous week in Podere San Luigi.
It's close to San Gimignano and Certaldo, it is perfect for a relaxing holiday on the country side. We slept in "Panorama" apartment: very clean and nice, big swimming pool....and awesome view!!!!
The owners are very lovely: thanks to Mario for your nice chat and thank to AnnaLinda for her beautiful garden!!!!

We came back to the farmhouse as we'd stayed here before in May 2008. We loved it so much then that we were determined to return but had a baby in 2009 so could not come.

Mario and Annalinda are excellent hosts and epitomise warm Tuscan hospitality. We felt as though we were staying with friends who quietly let us get on with our holiday but were always available when needed. They provided us with a basic welcome basket on arrival and invited us to eat with them one night which was very generous. They grow a lot of their own food and live on site.

We stayed in Appt 1 which is ground floor and very convenient for young children. It was clean, spacious and very Tuscan with tiled floors and furnished with authentic antiques. Our hosts supplied a cot for our youngest and a z bed for our three year old which worked well. It felt like a safe environment and the children loved the freedom.

The location is excellent. A long hour from Pisa airport, a couple of minutes from Certaldo (where there is a train line direct to Florence and Sienna and a well equipped supermarket), and a couple of minutes from San Gimingnano. If you like Tuscan rural then this is the place to be. The scenery is amazing and not over developed. The landscape is dotted with farmhouses and villas and still feels unspoiled.

We love the rustic charm, the ability to do very little but still feel you are on holiday and yet have numerous places to visit within a short car drive. It is very peaceful and relaxing. We often spent our mornings sight seeing and then came back to laze around the pool with the children after lunch. For us it is the very essence of Tuscan living. We felt that we were experiencing a little of the real Tusacany and bought our food and wine from local producers where possible (there is a vineyard selling local wine at the end of the road).

The Appt is self catering but the quality of dining locally is very good with a couple of restaurants open within walking distance. Further afield there are numerous agriturismo or trattoria serving typical Tuscan dishes and of course there are lots of restaurants in the local towns of Certaldo and San Gimingnano.

We'd have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.

the tuscany is a great place to be: beautiful landscape, interesting medieval cities, excellent wine and food and - GREAT PEOPLE! people like the giubbolini´s, who we had the luck to meet near pancole, in their very nice little podere san luigi! mario and his wife annalinda made our stay very pleasant, they had good tipps for trips, fulfilled all our wishes and - last but not least - they had a fine appartment for us, with a breathtaking view in the morning and with very lovely details inside!

we will recommend mario´s podere san luigi for sure and we will come back very soon hopefully!!!

take care, dear mario and annalinda

Situated close to San Gimignano, Certaldo and convenient for Florence, Siena and many other favourites in Tuscany, this beautiful home with four only apartments is a real gem!
Mario and Annalinde are genuinely warm, knowledgeable, and helpful; a chance to dine with them and the other guests is not to be missed - homemade limoncello, and Annalinde's delicious food are truly wonderful!

We've been fortunate to stay three times so far - and will be back without doubt!
