“Amazing views, excellent location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2012

Stayed here for the first week of our tour of Europe. Great place to chill out and relax. Loads of lovely places to visit for the day within easy reach. Really lovely pool and surrounding area with lots of sun beds and grass. Very clean and well equipped accommodation and a welcome from the owners who provided us with one of their own bottles of wine on arrival. Good quality bedding and towels, all immaculate. Laundry room just a few steps from the pool area with two machines, large sink, iron and board and lots of clothes airers made keeping on top of the washing a dream! (only the mum's reading this will appreciate). Large tables and chairs outside the kitchen door offered dining with amazing views over the surrounding vineyards. BBQ also provided. Don't hesitate to book this lovely location.

Room Tip: ceiling fans rather than air conditioning so keep the shutters closed! Very warm at night!

We stayed here for 7 nights but wished we had booked for longer. Well equiped apartment, clean and spacious. Good base for traveling around Siena and 10 minute drive to the Certaldo for the trains to Pisa and Florence and 10 minute drive from great town of San Gimignano.

Safe and secure 'resort' with a lovely pool area, laundry facilities if required, and wine and olives in the little shop on site.

Staff we friendly though communication was basic (both ways wish I had learnt some Italian!) but were as helpful as they possible could.

The appartments had a rustic look and feel which is exactly what we imagined Tuscany accomodation to be like.

Loved everything about this holiday except coming home and leaving some items which are being kindly returned by the owners!

If you want to travel around as much as we did make it at least 10 days and relax a little around the pool in between breathtaking views and beautiful walled towns.

This was a great place to rest and relax. W e stayed in Timo, one of four adjoining houses. We had three double bedrooms all ensuite and a dining kitchen. The rooms all had fans but in 36 degrees of heat we would have really appreciated some air conditioning. The kitchen was small but adequate although could have ben improved with a coffee machine or cafetierre and some sharp knives. Outside were some tables and chairs with parasols. The real bonus was the shared swimming pool which was never very busy and the perfect place to read and relax on the sunloungers. There were also communal washing machines available to use. The owners were very pleasant but their English was very limited. The wine they produce was available to buy and was very pleasant. The rural setting gave good views of San Gimignano and other Tuscan highlights were within easy travelling distance. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable week being able to relax and also see some fascinating places, I would definitely recommend this destination.

We stayed here recently for two weeks with our three children and were very impressed. We stayed in Alloro, which was spacious with three bedrooms, all ensuite, and very clean. The pool is also lovely with beautiful views to San Gimignano. There is use of a free washing machine and ironing board on site. It is a 10-15 minute drive to San Gimignano but no bus service which is a pity as parking can be difficult (but definitely worth the trip). We also really enjoyed eating out in Colle di Val d'Elsa nearby which is less crowded and has some lovely restaurants. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and I would highly recommend this location as excellent value for money.

Our 2nd visit to this place was just as we expected. We stayed in apartment Timo again which was immaculate and very well equipped for all our needs. We love the peacefull location and the fact that you are only a short drive away from all the surrounding towns like San Gimignano, Certaldo, Poggibonsi and many others. Trains to Florence, Pisa and Siena only 15 min drive away. Even although you are sharing the pool with others it's still very private and not crowded, we were lucky as most days we had the pool to ourselves. Barbara is about nearly everyday but never intrusive, always working hard to keep the grounds spotless and her mother Maria is the nicest Italian lady we have across in all our visits to Italy.

This property is located on a hill with a view to the towers of San Gimignano (only a short drive away). The location itself provides a good base to do day trips our to towns like Siena as its very central
We were lucky enough not to have to share our space with any other travellers, meaning we had access to the kitchen and living area to ourselves. The property is clean, has a swimming pool and you have access to washing machine facilities. The room itself was cosy and the bathroom spacious.
The only thing lacking on this property was air conditioning.
Great place to go to relax

Me and a friend stayed here after booking a last minute deal through Thomson at a very good rate of £350 Inc flights and car hire, which for Tuscany seemed like excellent value. Macinatico is a series of 4 or 5 apartments in 1 main building a couple hundred yards from a typical Tuscan working farm producing wine, olive oil etc (which can be bought at a fantastic price from the owners). We picked up our hire car and travelled down from Pisa, which only took about 1.5 hours and was really easy to find. On arrival we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of Rosso produced on the farm and given the keys to our apartment “Alloro”. It’s probably worth mentioning that the owners speak very little English so conversing is a little difficult but manageable. The apartments themselves are very spacious and airy; the kitchen area is probably a little small for cooking a meal as space is an issue however the small kitchenette area is very well equipped with all the utensils you need. The bedrooms feature lovely beds and solid wood furniture and have shutters so stay very cool. Macinatico has a 3 star rating which I think is spot on its very clean and tidy and despite basic is still a good standard. Outside each apartment is a table and chairs set (plastic, wood would have been nicer) there is no divider between each terrace so don’t expect any privacy. The pool area is kept very tidy, again the sun loungers perhaps need updating their quite cheap and nasty (small little changes like this could make this a 4 star self catering). There is also a laundrette (didn’t use) and the office in a separate building next door from which you can buy wine or olive oil (its hit and miss as to whether the owners are around). Our Thompson rep came to visit us at the apartments which was very good and spent over 2 hours with us introducing us to the area and giving us hints and tips.
As to situation, San Gimigano is 10 mins drive away, Siena 1 hour, Pisa 1.5 hours, Florence we got the train to this can either be picked up at Certaldo or Poggibonsi and Chianti foothills about 20mins drive. The countryside around Macinatico is stunning if we had more time we would have certainly gone out exploring on foot as we heard there were some fantastic walks around from other guests ( 1 other apartment was also let out my Thomson uk). We found the best supermarket in the area was the Pam at Poggibonsi it’s further than the coop at San Gimigano which I didn’t really like.
Overall a great little escape to Tuscany for the price we paid I probably expected it not to be as nice as it was, would I stay again I’m not sure, after this being my first trip to Tuscany I saw other areas I would like to stay and properties the appealed to me more, but once again for the price you can’t complain and certainly would recommend Macinatico to others wishing to stay here.
