Il Borghetto di San Gimignano Agriturismo

I can't say enough good things about our stay at Il Borghetto last week. with our 3 children (15, 18 and 21). The location is ideal for getting anywhere in Tuscany, the views are breathtaking, the accommodation far exceeded our expectations (we stayed in the 3-bedroom Capanna di Capra which is huge and very private), the owners could not be nicer or more helpful and the dinners were delicious! We love the fact that we could hike into San Gimignano, which we did twice.

Of particular note were two things which went way above and beyond:

1. Our flight was delayed and we couldn't arrive until after midnight. Our 21 year old son, who was arriving earlier, was able to check in for us. However, having arrived without a car , he had no way to get food for his dinner. Nicolas very kindly drove him to a store to pick up what he needed.

2. Our 18 year old daughter is vegan; rather than just giving her a salad or plate of vegetables at the two dinners we ate there, they went out of their way to prepare delicious vegan meals for her - a lot of extra work and thought for just one person. When we expressed our dismay and what they were proposing to do, the response was "we love a challenge'!

Simona, Sandra, Nicola and Riccardo, thank you for a wonderful holiday. We can't wait to come back!

My family of 5 adults stayed in one of the private apartment/villas. We had a wonderful time. This place is gorgeous. They offer dinner 3 times a week and you definitely have to do this. The food was the best food we had on the entire trip. Go hungry, because it is a ton of food. The family that runs Il Borhetto are precious and so sweet. I would definitely recommend staying here. It was clean. I wish they served breakfast. It was sorta a pain having to go to town to the grocery store and stock up (and took quite a bit of time, considering you are in a grocery store in another country and can't find things). We all wake up at different times, we throughout our trip, we really enjoyed having a breakfast served everywhere else, so you could get up and go eat at your leasure, sip your coffee, etc. You can sign up for a breakfast basket, but it didn't have much variety. We made the best out of it and made a big trip to the grocery store. We cooked dinner one night and had everything we needed in our kitchen to do so. We were able to do laundry here as well, which was a huge plus (even though we had to wait in line). The only real downside was the temperature in our villa. It was unusually hot weather for early june. It was hot inside our villa. We had the A/C on, but I think they have it regulated where it will only get so cold. We just never were completely comfortable, especially when you had to blow dry your hair, etc. Most of us slept on top of the covers because it wasn't cool enough inside. But everything else made up for it. Especially the dinners and the nice people! It is a long way up a dirt road, so you really need a car if you are staying here. It's an hour walk to town I think.

We booked Il Borghetto last-minute in May based on the excellent TA reviews and we were not disappointed. What an amazing Utopia - everything about Il Borghetto is absolutely perfect, from the superb welcome by the Bimi family to the relaxed atmosphere and the tranquil apartments. It is a great base for visiting San Giminano, Siena, and numerous vineyards. Dinner is available 3 nights a week and is an absolute must. Delicious home-cooked traditional Italian meals complimented by great wine and company. It's a great way to mingle with other guests and swap travel stories. I also took part in a great cookery class and my husband joined the group afterwards for a long leisurely lunch. So to sum up Il Borghetto has it all - great company, stunning views, beautiful pool area, and amazing food. Miss it at your peril.

Friends of ours recommended il Borghetto after they stayed a few years ago so we knew we made the right choice when booking. Little did we know that we would have such a remarkable first experience in Tuscany. As soon as we arrived we were greeted at the front gate and our luggage was collected for us...I might add it was pouring rain! We were then pleasantly shown our apartment. We were travelling with another couple and had ample space in the two bedroom two story apartment. The best part was our covered terrace which provided amazing outdoor space and sheltered us in rain and sun! We spent all our evenings outdoors taking in the incredible views Il borghetto was a perfect spot to base our trip. We went on many day trips and all the places we travelled to were close by and convenient. The meals we had at il borghetto were quite memorable. The food was excellent and wine pairings were some of best we had whilst on vacation. They certainly know how to entertain!
Whenever we had a question our hosts were able to help us. They provided loads of details regarding wine tastings and set up reservations for us as well as providing directions when needed. We were all very pleased with the services il borghetto provided. The pool was an amazing place to start the day whether swimming laps or just lounging. A great place to end the day too with a nice bottle of prosecco. When we ran out of our own we were able to purchase more from our hosts!!
The views were outstanding, each turn provided more beauty.
We were a little concerned before the trip that the apartment would not be private enough with the other units close by but we hardly saw any other guests except on the nights where meals were shared. At which point it was nice to meet others and share travel stories, tips, comments. Everyone was very friendly and we all agreed what a great place il borghetto was.
I am so looking forward to returning one day and in the mean time will be encouraging others to visit.
Thanks again for a truly memorable experience.

We first heard about Il Borghetto from a friend who had been there last year. She described the leisurely ambiance and beauty of the Villa and the surrounding area. The apartment we occupied was large and very comfortable. Our hosts were very gracious and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They directed us to a local "fattoria" where we we enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting Tuscan style. We especially enjoyed the meals prepared and served at Il Borghetto three days out of the week. All the courses were homemade, fresh and delicious. The wines were excellent. While we stayed at Il Borghetto, we found it easy to visit San Gimignano, Sienna, Florence, and Volterra. Each was an easy drive on highways that allowed us to enjoy the Tuscan landscape. We hope to return next year to further explore the Tuscan countryside. It was a great trip; we hope the first of many.

There were four of us in our party and Il Borghetto was indeed an inspired choice. The greeting on arrival was perfect and throughout the two weeks the owners could not have been more helpful. Our apartment was perfect and the view from the balcony classic Tuscany, in fact we just stayed around the house for a day or two enjoying the peace and tranquility. Approximately 25 metres from our balcony was the al fresco dining area where we enjoyed the owners perfectly served food 3 times each week including a superb selection of local wines. The location was also great for touring Chianti area, Sienna, San Gimignano and all the historic towns were easy to get to. Best holiday ever - YES!

If you have been looking for the perfect travel destination to use as a base to explore Tuscany and all of the delights to be found there, then this is the one! You can return at the end of the day and enjoy recounting your adventures with other travelers from around the world who are willing to listen and share their own experiences.
Or, you can simply enjoy the pleasures of the Villa and the surrounding area.
The furnishings are marvelous and the owners are very hands on. They are helpful in finding a destination or for an unexpected item that you must have. The meals that are prepared 3 nights a week by Mamma and her staff are not to be missed!
A stay here will embody the warmth and joy to be found in Tuscany!
