“Awesome apartment in quiet tuscan setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2011

Antica Fonte was exactly what we were hoping for when making our booking. The accommodation is in a great setting, on the very outskirts of Siena, over-looking the countryside. The apartment was compact but perfect for couples, with a king bed and very well looked after. Although we arrived at 11am, Giuseppe made the room available to us, even though it had only been vacated that morning. I would recommend this accommodation for those looking to escape restaurents and also to relax for a couple of days during their travels. Just bare in mind that its a bus or drive into Siena, walking would be a risk, espcially with the italian drivers!! FYI use of the AC is an extra cost, costs about 4euros if only used during the night.

We would recommend Antica Fonte - it is reasonably priced, charming, one of the friendliest places that we visited and in a beautiful rural setting. The only downside is that it is 3km outside of Siena city but we would recommend staying here. The apartments are self catering, which made a lovely break from eating out all the time and Giuseppe (the owner) is lovely - he even gave us fresh figs from his garden. Also, one of the most comfy beds in Italy!

VERY clean!
Owner will do everything to please you... he is wonderful!
There is no pool although we thought there was as listed under activities... but a hot tub.

Be aware there is extra small fee for using laundry, air conditionning and internet.

Very peaceful villa.

This is less of a hotel and more like staying at a good friend's guest house. Sits a few minutes outside of Siena and the road into the city can get a bit congested depending on time of day. Property (can't call hotel) is down quiet road with fantastic views from the rooms. Private entrance/parking and phenomenal service. My english-only proved to be no issue. The rooms are recently renovated with traditional Tuscany decor but modern flat screen tvs and all of the kitchen essentials you may need. Check-in was seamless, check-out owner came out to car to personally thank and say goodbye to family. Only regret is we stayed for just one night. If I did it again I would stay the entire week and drive into Florence/Pisa/Rome for day trips. Cost is a fraction of what you pay in the cities and you can't replicate the ambience.

My sister and I stayed here and the residenza was our base from which we traveled to Venice, Rome and all over Tuscany. Even though we were there during the coldest most miserable weather in December, we had a great time. The apartment was roomy and warm and had everything we needed. It was immaculately clean and very well appointed -- even had a fancy flat screen tv with tons of channels! The apartment was lovely and our host was very helpful. Will definitely stay here again!

We stayed at this B&B for four nites and used it as a base while we traveled by rented car to Siena and surrounding mountain cities. Accommodations were great...private, clean, reasonably priced, comfortable and very quiet. Beware of a few niggling issues: the proprietor, Giuseppi, spoke virtually no English so it was nearly impossible to glean recommendations for travel; breakfast food was minimal and was not replaced each day; the spa, listed as an amenity, was empty; and we paid an extra 5 euro each day for heat and 3 euro per laundry load in a machine that did not dry the clothes. Still, we were very pleased with this B&B; we'd return.

Next time, we'd follow the advise of a fellow traveler and take the bus from the B&B to downtown Siena, where traffic is heavy and parking difficult to locate. Even with a friendly GPS and maps and road signs (which occasionally conflict with each other), we made a few wrong turns...not too much fun in the dark.

What a beautiful, relaxing place. Could not fault one thing about Antica Fonte and the gracious host Giuseppe. He cannot do enough for you. The apartment/small house had everything. Even though we had a hire car we caught the bus at the end of the street into the old Siena town...to come back to our home away from home at the end of the day was bliss. We would cook up beautiful meals with the fresh produce that we had purchased from the markets and sat on our balconey with a bottle of Giuseppe's home made wine and watch the sunset. Bliss!
