“Luxurious, peaceful and beautiful”
Reviewed 25 October 2012

This place ticks all the boxes for me: it is very close to Siena but you still feel like you're somewhere deep in the country, the property is beautifully located among olive groves and vineyards and the apartments are rustic, but at the same time luxurious. We were greeted on arrival by the man who also takes care of the Castel di Pugna vineyard, very polite and friendly. Later on, he gave us a tour of the castle, its historic cellars and also showed us how wine is made on the estate. The apartment was spacious, tastefully furnished and with everything that you might need (in terms of equipment). I particularly enjoyed taking our breakfast outside on the terrace, with wonderful views of the Sienese hilly landscape. There were some fig trees just outside our place, so we would go and pick as many sweet and perfectly ripe figs as we liked. I really could not find any fault with the place. Oh, and the wine they make, which you can purchase at the reception, was very good, I recommend trying it if you stay there.

On leaving the coastal area of Pisa di Marina, I was trying to find something near Siena (part of the difficulty was that on the maps it is spelled SieNNa, however it is actually SieNa).
My frustration was dissipated when a last minute cancellation delivered this as available. With the high ratings it had I immediately booked and set off. Finding the place with a Garmin is tricky, but once we drove up the tree lined driveway, it was obvious we were in for a treat!
The place was built in 1187 and is a working wine estate run by the most congenial of hosts, Emmanual, who welcomed us and gave us a choice of rooms, Azure was the choice made. Not enough can be said about the relaxing views from a very comfortable room. Free wi-fi is top of my priorities as is parking and both are provided.
The high rating is fully justified. If possible, make this your base for a multi day visit.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms have a view, albeit different aspects, but all are equally magnificent.

Upon arrival, the owner greeted us and let us pick out our preferred room. The selection was great and we settled on one with a beautiful view of Siena and the countryside from the bedroom and even from the bathroom. The other rooms had equally picturesque views. They have a vineyard on site where they bottle their own wine and a little restaurant. A cab is probably best from the train or bus station in Siena, but it is just within a nice walk from the local bus stop. The owners were there to greet and were very helpful. The restaurant appeared to only be open some of the time (check in advance). Nice pool in the back and also a place to sit to enjoy an evening overlooking the city with a bottle of their wine. Already recommended it to others and definitely would go back.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At 3 kilometres from Siena center, a cypress lane leads you up to the ancient Vineyards and olive trees surround the heart of the winery: the wine cellar dug right into the limestone, the owners' Villa and the elegantly restored and polished outbuildings, typical examples of old Tuscan barns. In the recently restored barn and outbuildings there have been created 3 very special apartments, each completely different from the other both from the colour and the interior point of view; all three remind of the warmth of old Tuscan farm houses where everything is always focused on the so called "enogastronomia". ... more   less
