We were walking through Siena in the rain on the way to meet friends at their hotel. We passed by this restaurant, saw that it had a Rick Steves recommendation posted up front and was drawn to what looked to be a charming restaurant. We told our friends about it and they were agreeable. We each tried one another’s varying dishes (mushroom risotto, bolognese, frutti di mare, etc.) and each was salty, salty, salty, and salty some more. It could have been an off night for the cook, which was unfortunate for us. We should have known that it would not be good because there were only two other parties while we were there. (While other restaurants we passed were full of people, this one was not. Our mistake.) Upon closer inspection of the Rick Steves review posted inside the restaurant, we learned that it was an old recommendation from 2004. When we checked our 2013 guidebook, it was not part of it. Needless to say, we felt duped. We left with a bad taste in our mouth, literally and figuratively.
