“a lovely spot for a quick lunch in this gem of a city”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Siena is a very, very special place - especially around time of the Palio. Eating out is difficult - everything busy and booked up. No far from the Duomo and the Campo, you find by chance this lovely corner along the steps - an unassuming place with a small menu and few tables outside, But... what a service! and what atmosphere... and what food... a small choice, but everything is lovely, and served with kindness and professionalism. I'll go again.

“if you like bubblies ...”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

... this is a good place for a meal. Set in a small and (usually ... we were there with a large, loud group of students celebrating end of term) peaceful square just off the main drag in Siena, the Cava de' Noveschi serves up a good, limited menu of local specialties (e.g., potato salad with truffles) along with a limited list of (mainly) sparkling wines. Though the list of wines is short, there is some choice between genuine champagnes and Italian sparkling wines, at various price points. Service was good (considering the large group in the restaurant), waitress spoke English and helped with choices, and the food was tasty.

“In Siena 3 nights, 3 meals at this gem!”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

After being refused a bruschetta for my lunch in another restaurant, we discovered this little restaurant tucked away in a corner near our accommodation. We had one of the best gazpachos ever, with truffled potatoes. Just the light lunch we were looking for. Back for dinner that night. Lovely again. Returned the next day for more gazpacho and then the crowning glory, the special of the day, cheese tart with honey and ham. Wow! Service was great, champagne and dessert wine consumed, we'll be back.

“A cut above the rest”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Lunch or dinner in Siena and Tuscany can be boring after a few days as its almost always the same classical Tuscan fare , until of course one comes across Cava de' Noveschi. It is refreshingly different from the others, with care and attention to the menu which changes daily depending what is offered fresh in the market that day. The attention to detail and the excellent friendly service make the difference topped by a wonderful selection of wines and of course champagne. Filippo is making quite a name for himself in Siena and quite rightly so, it is as the title says a cut above the rest.Thankyou Filippo we'll be back soon.

“hidden gem”

Excellent host, thank you Fillipo. Delicious lunch of amazing flavours in a charming setting a couple of minutes from the Duomo. A must if you are visiting Siena, savour the real culinary skills of Italy. Plus at a sensible cost. Will certainly return.
