“Interesting hotel”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

We picked this hotel on our trip around Italy, as a last minute change of plan, and we pleasantly surprised. Parking is an issue, and whilst we were told that parking was available,it was a good distance from the hotel - the trick is to unload the car first and drive off to find parking.

Our room was a good size, the decor a surprise, in a baroque sort of way. There was only a little street noise. The room was clean as was the bathroom, the bathroom was long a narrow but more than adequate.

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the town square, perfect for a romantic glass of bubbly as the sun goes down. The hotel owner suggested a couple of restaurants, we chose the one near the central market, great food.

As an unplanned hotel, this was a lovely stay, the breakfast room a little odd, but interesting.

We stayed at Antica Torre for 2 nights in November. It's a little hard to find, but that's par for the course for most hotels inside the walled areas. The owner was very nice and we felt very welcome. The rooms are small but clean and adequate if you don't have lots of stuff with you. Parking is an issue because of parking regulations, you can drop off your stuff and then need to find a space outside the walls. The breakfast was fantastic, and we chatted with the owner for quite a while. Patricia is very nice, speaks English, and could not have been more helpful. We would defintely stay there again, and we found Siena completely charming.

I definitely won't easily forget this place. As far as rooms go in Italy, (And they're very different then ones in the US or Canada if you've never been to Italy) it's nothing particularly special. The decor is cute, but the bathroom is more like a closet, the TV has a hard time turning on, and you can hear construction (Actually, I'm pretty sure the whole country is under construction) and crows outside every morning. Oh, and don't forget that the locals don't go to sleep until around 2 in the morning. But besides all of that, you have to remember just how old this hotel is - and the staff are actually doing a pretty good job. The manager was very kind, and the people that you meet when you're having breakfast are some of the most delightful you'll have the pleasure to come across during your stay.
I'll conclude with this: If you want old style charm, stay here. If you want something a little more luxurious, then don't.

This hotel is relatively close from the Piazza Il Campo (approx 10 mn walking).
Backing some of the negative comments:
- a woman in her thirties who apparently helps the owner does not seem to have all her intelectual capacities and this is a bit disturbing at first, even at second.
- they do not leave the remote control for the AC in the bedrooms so make sure you ask for it to be left in your bedroom if you check-in late
- bedrooms are really small and it is hard to fit a suitcase (but i guess you can stay in either an expensive hotel or standard Hilton if it is what matters to you)
- the bathrooms are oudated and we were not sure whether they were really clean so we refused to ask one another as we feared the answer would be dirty.

However, we did not notice any smoking smell as suggested in some reviews and the noise was not an issue (we were in the room on the first floor at the back, on a dark and dirty courtyard, but did not mind as we stayed only for one night).

Room Tip: Room at the back and low floor as no lift

Unassuming facade, small public spaces from an American perspective, it fits perfectly with the general feel of the medieval walled town of Siena. The hotel occupies a tall narrow sliver of a large stone building. I enjoyed climbing the stairs to our room, though my elderly father would have preferred an elevator. The views from the top floors are spectacular. Our room was clean, with in-suite bathroom, electrical outlets, and wi-fi. Breakfast is served in a converted cellar by the hard-working proprietress. Nearby are markets, restaurants, gelaterias, banks, laundromats. The Campo (magnificent town square), several plazas, and the bus station are easy walks on cobblestone streets; the train station may require a taxi for non-hikers. Anyone who appreciates Italian history, and Siena in particular, would love this hotel.

Room Tip: The tops floors have breath-taking views. People with heart/lung conditions should opt for rooms on...

I stayed in the very top room - 53 steps up from the reception - for four nights in mid-June. I thought the room, bathroom and a/c were good. So was the refrigerator. The view, directly to the east, was wonderful around sunrise and sunset - but I did have to close the shutters shortly after sunrise, because the sun was so powerful at that time.

The staff were not only cordial but friendly. Breakfast was more than one would expect from a "continental breakfast." There's a supermarket very near, on the main street.

I would love to go back there with my wife, but she has a minor mobility problem, and the steps would be difficult for her.

Room Tip: I had a room on the very top floor, which was okay for one person. The room directly below it is bet...

My husband just spent 19 days touring Italy from North to South and our stay here was disappointing. Upon our arrival, a note was affixed to the front door stating they would be back pronto. 10 minutes later a young lady arrived to check us in. She was very strange and didn't seem to have all her faculties.
Our room was on the second floor over the "lobby" and was pleasant enough and clean if not a little claustrophobic, the shower was the smallest I ever encountered.
What made our stay awful was the the persistent odor and stench of cigarette smoke, ever present. The proprietor is a constant smoker and although there was a sign behind the counter indicating no smoking, apparently it only applied to guests.
We had to put a towel in front of the door to keep the stench of the smoke out.
In the morning we tried to go down for a quick coffee but after going down two flights of stairs through the smoke, we couldn't stand sitting in the basement breakfast room, marinating in the smell.
The first thing I did when we arrived at our next hotel, was take a long shower and wash my hair!

Room Tip: If you stay here, stay as far away from the lobby and front door unless you enjoy the smell of cigar...
