“Nice relaxing spot just on the edge of Siena”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2009

Stayed for 4 days mid-June. Clean, welcoming and very helpful staff (even arranging to forward on some clothes thatwe acidentally left behind). Rooms only just big enough - small by US standards and inadequate hanging space if you have more than three things to hang up. Lovely little patio at the front (BUT immediately next to road so traffic noise only disappears late at night) and terraces to the back.

BIG criticism - restaurant closed for remodelling; we would have chosen somewhere elsehad we knownthis in advance as on reason we selected the hotel was the charming desciption of their dining in a well.

Pro's
- Reasonably friendly and helpful staff
- Large sized rooms
- Breakfast - OK

Con's
- The dreadful shower
- Rooms need redecorating
- Would have preferred to stay closer to the centre of town

We had a reasonably pleasant stay at the Arcabaleno. Having said that whilst travelling through Italy we stayed at some amazing B&B's for the same price. I think you could find somewhere better for the money. I would suggest booking Siena accommodation as far in advance as possible. Our first two preferences were booked out when we inquired.

We decided to go to Sienna for one Friday nite at the last minute. Several hotels we called were full or would not rent for only one weekend nite. Arcobalena said they had only one small room left with a French bed, which turned out to be a queen size. The room was small but had all we needed for one night. The free parking was a bonus as we had been driving thru Tuscany. The staff, and particularly Christiana, were marvelous. She recommended a seafood restaurant a few blocks away that was very good. There is a typical breakfast included but there is no longer a restaurant. Right next to the front desk is coffee and a bar. We only paid 85 euro for the smaller room which was quite a bargain. And yes, the bidet is unusual. But, a nice and comfortable place to stay in Sienna.

My husband & I were lucky enough to return to Italy over Easter week this year (we were there for 2 weeks last June) and had not made it to Siena last trip. Booked the trip and this hotel only 2 weeks before going and really loved it.
There are new owners and Christina and the whole staff are very helpful and keep the 2 buildings that house their hotel immaculately clean! A great perk is that they have a large parking lot with EASY access and it's free - which in Italy is enormous. When we were there they were in the process of remodeling their restaurant which I think will be lovely. The breakfast area is in a kind of 3 season room and lovely.
The location is great - about 1 km. to inside the city walls - about a 10 minute walk - which considering how much we walk (and eat) it Italy, it is nothing. Do think the rooms are plainer than many and a little more expensive (130 euros)than we even paid in Venice for a great boutique hotel.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again when we get back to Siena!

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! they helped us arrange for local tours of the Siena area, bus service to Florence, taxis, train. We consulted with them on our research on places to eat and found them most helpful. Staff made reservations for restaurants and local tours. Rooms very comfortable. Location is very convenient for train and bus service. Taxis easily reach center of town in a few minutes. They make good cocktails too!

I have been tio Siena several times but this time i really had a great time I would say fantastic, brilliant. I stayed at Arcobaleno Hotel which was recommrnded to me by an italian friend, it is such a nice place to stay no in the city centre but only 10 minuts by bus . The hotel has a breathtaking view on the hill, a great restaurant with a good food and people were all friendly.I think the hotel has been refurbished a few years ago and has all the confort one needs.Gay people are welcome as i went with my partner and the staff was fantastic I really felt like at my home place.I would suggest anyone going to Siena to try this charming hotel.

Overall: I gave this hotel the highest rating possible because the staff was more friendly than any other hotel we stayed during our 9 days in Italy. Imagine how friendly employees of a Disneyworld hotel would be; that the staff here. We arrived 4 hours before standard check in time. It was no problem, they had a room ready. They all spoke very good English and had a good sense of humor. They gave us a map; showed us 15 ways to get into the city; suggested things to do, etc. The breakfast was better than average for a hotel breakfast in Italy (typically very plain); the coffee served was among the best cups we had from hotels.

Location: As long as you have a car to get to the hotel in, this location is wonderful. It only took my wife and I 10 minutes to reach the old-city limits and another 10 minutes to walk to the center of Siena. But if you don't want to walk, there is a bus stop within 100 feet of the hotel that will take you right to the center very quickly. Nonetheless, I suggest walking at least once. It's a beautiful walk.

The Bad Parts: The shower was very small (although most showers in Europe are and also serve as a bidet, which from an American perfective is odd, if not gross. In the end, it was immaculately clean and didn’t really bother us. Like one of the previous writers, my wife’s hairdryer didn’t work even with the converter. The first time she attempted to use it, there were no problems. One the second day, the second floor to lost power for a few moments. She ended up using the hotel hairdryer which was fine, but took longer to dry her hair.

In the end, I would definitely suggest this hotel to anyone looking for a friendly, clean hotel within a close walk to the old-city. It’s a great value.
