“PERFECT ITALIAN EXPERIENCE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2010

Siena is one of those cities that are unique.
This hotel is unique as well. Located in an authentic 17th century palace with all the amenities of modern comfort and none of its kitch fake reproductions, you will feel as a dignatary.
The location could not be better : on the main pedestrian street and close to everything you will want to see. Great restaurant and rooms decorated as only an italian palace could look.
The staff was very friendly and professional. If arriving with a rented car make sure to have a GPS on board.
If you are looking for the best visiting Siena, this is the place.

Wonderful location in the heart of the old city but a very disappointing room. There is, however, door-to-door taxi access, and the main post office is located very conveniently just 2 minutes away (although the system for counter service is signposted in Italian only and the counter staff very rude if you end up in the wrong queue). Most major attractions are only a few minutes' walk away, and there is wonderful shopping in the immediate area.
Our room was on the mini top floor (Room 325) accessed only by a final stairway from the top floor that the lift went to, so we had to walk up the last flight of stairs with our bags. The room was OK but small; try to get a room on a lower floor; do NOT accept rooms 324 or 325.

There was complimentary morning coffee in the room, however, which was delivered very quickly upon request and with a smile, and the wait and bar staff was very polite and helpful, especially when we made the effort to order local drinks in our limited Italian. However, the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant was mediocre at best and the service overly slow. With all the lovely trattorias in town, avoiding hotel restaurants is probably good advice anyway.

Bottom line is that we would stay there again, but would be very fussy about which room we accepted.

This was our 5th hotel on our honeymoon and we didn’t like this hotel at all! For a Small Leading Hotels of the World, this was NOT our cup of tea! I really expected more for the price we paid here. The room was old with stains on the carpet, small with hardly any room at all for our luggage on the floor, and this is not a joke the bathroom area smelled like Urine. It was very loud at night too. I was awoken at 2:00am with kids screaming/singing outside. It was also loud the second night. It cost 45 Euro to park our car PER DAY! We are not cheap but we don’t like to get ripped off. Finally the bellman told us (after we asked) where we may be able to find a less expensive parking lot about 5 min away. We I would NOT recommend this hotel even though it got rave reviews from so many people including someone I know. I now wonder if they get the 3 room penthouse suite and not the standard room. Either way, it’s not worth the money!

The hotel is lovely and the location perfect for visiting the sites in Siena. With that said, we found getting information from the hotel staff incredibly frustrating. And, candidly, for the price of the stay, we expected far better service. Prior to our trip, I emailed the concierge to get information on the closest car rental location and recommended restaurants. I never received a reply. While we were there, it did not appear that there was a concierge available, so we were required to get information from the staff behind the front desk, and while they answered our questions, they did not try to make our trip a better experience. They seemed bothered by having to deal with us at all.

This hotel is OK, considering the price. Well located (but don't think it's actually easy to drive here... it's in the middle of a crowded medieval city....), rooms are decent, food is expensive but OK..... The service was quite good -- very nice and polite employees... But the way they insist on doling out internet access like holy water is really infuriating.

I don't even mind that they charge 10 euros per night for web access.... but, if you are a business traveler, with multiple connected devices, you have to pay a charge for EACH COMPUTER -- so in our case, with two computers and two iphones, that adds up to 40 euros per night.

But I expect to be overcharged at a hotel like this, that's not my complaint.

The major annoyance is that EVERY 24 HOURS you have to call the front desk to get a 8-letter code -- this code allows you to go online. It expires 24 hours later, at which point you have to call again.

Our annoyance on top of this was that the phone in our room had horrible static, so we had to try to communicate with the front desk through the static, and get each separate code. They ended up running an employee up to our room every night with the codes on a piece of paper, usually waking up our baby in the process -- it's insane to use a 4000-year-old system (human messenger) as the gatekeeper to a 20th century technology (the internet...)

It's majorly annoying to be overcharged for something AND for it to be made massively inconvenient to even buy it -- especially because this inconvenience is entirely unnecessary....

At least let me pay whatever the fee is and not have to deal with it again until I check out!

Location is great, we had a rental car and it was very expensive to park. There was a party mid-week on the street until 4 AM and it was very noisy.

From the moment we entered and met Nabiol on reception we were provided excellent service. The room we stayed in was a junior suite and this was truly amazing, the decor and careful restoration of the hotel is breathtaking. My now husband and I were married in Siena and had arranged for our evening meal to take place in the ballroom, plus have drinks in the wine cellar after the ceremony. We had arranged this directly with the reservation staff via email who were more than willing to help and provide anything we wished. The chef, Luca, created a delicious menu and all staff were friendly. Several of our guests were staying in various types of rooms in the hotel and all agree this is a fantastic hotel and a great location, being only a couple of minutes walk from Piazza Publico. I could not speak highly enough and believe it was worth every penny/cent.
