We took our family (2 sons, their wives, and 4 grandchildren ages 3-8) on a week long holiday to Tuscany. We felt that having a guide while we were there was essential for us to really see and understand the history and culture of Siena and its surrounding area. Out of several we contacted over the Web, Barbara was the most responsive. She listened to what we wanted to achieve, recognized that our family group presented a need for a varied and well paced itinerary, and developed a very personalized approach for us during our visit. We easily prepared ahead of time communicating by email and by Skype.
The week was absolutely fabulous - in addition to the major sites and museums of Siena, Barbara arranged for a treasure hunt for the children while we were at the Ancient Hospital - we visited some small medieval villages nearby; stopped at a terra cotta factory (they gave the children some of the clay so they could fashion their own treasures; we ventured through old Etruscan Tunnels near Chiusi; had lunch on a farm one day, the lakeside another and of course local Trattoria, to name just a few events.
Also it was Palio time, and Barbara took us behind the scenes of one of the "contrade" who were preparing for the Palio (and even had our grandchildren participate in a Palio game, which the club had created for the children of their members).
Barbara's commentary was informative and interesting - her breadth and depth of the history and culture of the area is an asset. But her greatest asset is her desire for you to enjoy what you are seeing/doing. You cannot find a more personable, attentive, creative, and communicative person to show you the joys of Tuscany.
