We stayed here one night after our all-day tour of Tuscany. Our tour guide dropped us off right at the door of the hotel. We had considered several other places, but decided to take a chance here based on TA reviews and our tour guide's suggestion. We are really happy that we did! The grounds are beautiful, it's on a hill overlooking the outskirts of the city, and the room we had was huge! I think it was the biggest room we had on our whole trip. The floor was mosaic tile, with a really beautiful design. The bed was comfortable and large. We were on the first floor, next to a large sitting room with a piano and a small chapel (which was locked). Our room looked out over the street in front of the hotel, which was quiet enough.

Breakfast was really good also. The dining room area was full, so we sat on the enclosed terrace and looked out over the hills on the back side of the hotel.

At the lobby, you can buy 1/4 and 1/2 liter pitchers of house wine, or bottled wine by the glass. The price was quite reasonable, and we might have taken advantage of this had we stayed a bit longer.

There is a small room where you can put your baggage after you check out and before you leave town. It's relatively open, so I would not leave anything really valuable here.

Everyone on the staff that we talked to treated us very well and respectfully. Nobody was rude or insulting to us.

The price was somewhat high, but Siena is not the most economical place to stay anyway, and we were here only one night.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room that overlooks the back terrace if you would like a nice view.

We arrived into Siena without a place to stay. Our first hotel was very nice, business hotel right outside the main pedestrian area. We were very disappointed when they could only accommodate us for one night. We now are thankful. We stumbled upon this Palazzo Ravizza and LOVE it! Not only are the rooms incredibly clean, but huge, a great value, beautiful and incredibly close to the city. This may be my favorite place in Italy since I have been traveling here. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. If I could, I would stay here for many more days. this place is a GEM!!!!

As far as GPS, we found this place walking and the woman at the front desk was insanely helpful in making sure we did not get lost driving to their parking area. Did I mention the parking? It is very convenient and included in the rate. We looked at two other hotels in the same price range that were much dirtier and smelled of smoke and parking was extra. It may be hard to find, but worth the effort.

Reading the other reviews, I am surprised others have been so critical. Maybe because they are used to Marriott? I am a business traveler and travel extensively for fun and think this place is beautiful, well located, an amazing value and comfortable.

Room Tip: I always suggest looking at a room before you confirm. I tend to travel without having reservations...

First, the reviewers who mentioned problems with the GPS address may want to consider a new GPS. Ours took us directly to the front door of the hotel. It couldn't have been easier.

My wife, Amy, and I have just returned from our most recent trip to Italy. Every time we’re there we discover another special place. This trip it was the hotel Palazzo Ravizza in Siena. The location was perfect, our room was beautiful, the service was very good, and the view of the Tuscan countryside was spectacular. The hotel is within a comfortable distance to anything you might want to see.

One exception to the service that kept me from giving the hotel a grade of excellent was the absence of a bellman. There was no one available at check-in to help us with our bags. We were simply told, "After you take your bags to your room, come back and I will tell you how to find the parking lot." Maybe I'm out of order, but for the price we were paying, there should have been someone available to help us get our bags to our room. Aside from the bag issue, we truly enjoyed our stay.

A delicious breakfast is served every morning and can be enjoyed inside or in the beautiful garden. If you want eggs or something else you don't see, you simply need to ask for it. You should try the nut bread. And, in the evening, if you are a romantic . . . you can enjoy your favorite drink in the beautful garden area watching the sunset over the Tuscan hills to the west. Fortunately, our room overlooked the garden, so we watched the sunset and took pictures from our room.

The hotel has a secure private parking area, which was very easy to access. The hotel staff made everything very easy and booked all of our reservations. If we needed anything, all we had to do was ask.

Again, when we left, there was no one available to help with our bags. This is an issue that should been addressed by hotel management. However, everything considered, we enjoyed the Palazzo Raviza and would consider it for our next stay.

Room Tip: To make sure you enjoy your trip as we did, you may want to ask for a room with a view of the countr...

For such a gorgeous, wonderful city, this hotel is just so-so. First tip -- do NOT use GPS to get to the hotel. It is difficult to find and GPS is no help at all. The hotel website doesn't really make it clear that you will have to drive in the highly policed "traffic limited zone" to get to the hotel. Once you arrive, the hotel staff will submit your license plate number to the police so you are not issued a ticket.

Upon arriving, the desk clerk was pleasant, but we did experience another clerk that seemed preoccupied with paperwork. Again, to go along with the overall feeling of the hotel, the staff was just so-so.

The room was nice with high ceilings and a large window overlooking....uh, a busy street. If you can, reserve a room that overlooks the Tuscan landscape. Also, the air conditioning did not work, and it was too noisy to open the window, so it was a warm night in October (I can't imagine what it would have been like in July!)

Breakfast was typical of the other Italian hotels -- nothing special (again, so-so). BUT we did have a server who was especially nice in immediately offering a "real cappuccino" instead of one from their automated machine. The breakfast setting was nice in the garden room.

The location was convenient to the Cathedral, but seemed a bit of a hike from Il Campo and the rest of Siena. I'm sure there is a more convenient, nicer, less-expensive hotel in Siena...so I would recommend looking around TripAdvisor a little bit. THEN, enjoy the magic of Siena...and stay more than one night!

The hotel as others have commented is is a beautiful setting and conveniently located to tourist area, however, it is difficult to find - using GPS - which was no help and scant directions supplied by e- mail from hotel. Once you find hotel parking is free, check in/out efficient and professional.

However, there are some serous housekeeping issues that leave room for improvement, singly they don't amount to much, however, collectively they add up.

- upon arrival discover previous occupants half eaten pizza in mini-bar,
- one small cake of soap for 3 days for 2 people?
- hairdryer in bathroom not working, ring reception, told will ring back in 2 minutes - nothing, following morning - ring again - different person - portable hairdryer available,
- room 45, bathroom so small that in an endeavour to dry yourself after a shower, you virtually have to leave bathroom,
- shower recess - very, very cramped,
- pillows on bed - 4 - with 2 additional in cupboard, pillows so soft - that they - together don't amount to one normal pillow - reception's response - " that's all there is "
- some toiletries available 1st night - used but not replaced the following day,

In summary, this is a beautiful old building in beautiful gardens - however the management is letting the hotel's reputation down. We would not return - neither would we recommend. At E200pn - there are better options available.

Room Tip: Do your research - there must be better options available.

Well, we followed Rick Steve's advise and booked this superior room over looking Tuscany. My superior room consisted of overlooking one of the busiest streets with construction workers and ambulances ALL day long! We were greeted with a condescending front desk person who thought we were obviously "stupid" Americans. We have been traveling for 2 weeks throughout Italy and have stayed at some gorgeous hotels in what were much less than the 200e a night we paid for this hotel.
and the owners of those hotels were wonderful.

If the people who manage or own this hotel think its a diamond, I have news for them....its a CZ!!

Will never stay here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone!! Totally agree Jentosh, Very disappointing! And certainly not worth the money. Get rid if the almost bald headed condescending front desk man! A little kindness goes along way!!

PS.. No soap in room, no a/c as stated...DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR WEB PAGE!!!

This hotel was a disappointment in facility and staff. Only the back garden, which is lovely, made our stay passable. Hauling 3 pieces of luggage, we walked approximately 45 minutes to find the hotel from the bus station as no taxis were around. Exhausted on arrival, we informed the evening reception manager of this---he shrugged, said we could have found taxis at a certain square, a useful bit of information they could have communicated when they sent our "welcome" email several days before the stay. The manager told us where our room was, the hours of breakfast, and handed over the keys, no offer to help with our luggage. The room, which we had been told was recently renovated, was drab, poorly lighted and with worn out furnishings, only the bathroom looking "renovated." Since we were on the street, not garden side, of the hotel, it was very noisy with the windows open, but since the air conditioning was minimal, it was too hot with the windows closed. A church bell next door chimed every half hour all through the night. When we complained about the noise, the manager assured us this was a quiet residential neighborhood. We found out later it was the main street in and out of the old section of Siena, with traffic at all hours. As we were booked for 3 nights, we solved this problem by going to bed with the windows open, then getting up to close them before things started getting lively about 5 a.m. Very restful. The construction on the office building directly opposite did not help. During the day, I gazed at the construction workers while they gazed at me. We found out that the air conditioning worked opposite from the controls (management said someone must have messed it up), and the phone's indicators for front desk, etc. did not work at all. To top it off, we were given one small bar of soap for our entire stay. I had to request another to have one for shower, one for lavatory, this for a hotel that cost about $250 per night. The breakfast was OK, and we thoroughly enjoyed the garden with its view over the hills, but nonguests can also order drinks there. The woman at the front desk during the day was very helpful as was a male breakfast assistant. But I would not recommend this hotel unless you could snare a garden side room. Even then, there must be better spots with more accommodating personnel to stay in Siena for the same money.

Room Tip: Garden side only.
