Lorenza Capannelli (Lorenza, The Magnificent) is the best manager of any hotel where I have been a guest. Hotel Santa Caterina is well located a short walk outside the walled city of Siena. The hotel has a gorgeous garden where we ate breakfast, which was an abundant variety of cold meats, cheeses, fruits, cereals, beverages, etc, attractively presented. Beverages were served at our tables in the garden. The room we had overlooked the garden and the ample sleeping space was in a loft, with a view of the garden from the bed. Lorenza was sensitive to my concern for my 12 year old granddaughter who was in the USA with a life threatening disease; she (Lorenza) allowed me to use her computer to keep in touch with the situation at home. When another pair of guests were checking out we learned from them that they had left in their room a book my wife was excited about reading. The departing guest said my wife could have the book. The concierge went to the room to retrieve the book, but it was no longer there because the room had been cleaned. Lorenza overheard the discussion, called the service person who was driving across town. That service person returned to the hotel, retrieved the book from the recycle bin and graciuosly presented it to my wife.

Our family of five stayed in the apartment behind the main hotel in late June. The apartment consisted of a large entry foyer, two bedrooms, a large living/dining room furnished with dining table and very comfortable salon furniture. There was one full and one half bath. There were no kitchen facilities. All rooms were beautifully furnished with Italian antiques and a few modern pieces, all blending gracefully with oriental rugs and prints. Outside the living room windows was a breathtaking view of the rolling countryside. It was quiet and cool, despite not being air conditioned. There are ample fans, and the evening cooled enough that we did not miss AC.
Breakfast was served on a lovely outdoor terrace surrounded by fragrant jasmine, overlooking the same Tuscan vista of the countryside. Breakfast was ample with coffee/tea, juices, cheese, fruit and cold meats.
The hotel is located just outside Porta Romana. We walked everywhere to sightsee and to have dinner. Average time to the center was a 15 minute walk. It might be a bit much with young children or if you are elderly. There are taxis and a bus available too.
Staff were quite attentive and helpful above and beyond what we are used to. In addition to the usual help with directions and reservations - The zipper on one of our suitcases seperated and the manager spent significant time successfully repairing the case, even sewing some of it back together. All of this was done with a cheerfulness and graciousness that we greatly appreciated.
I happily reccomend this accomodation to travelers, and hope to return ourselves in the future.

The hotel is in a good location, right outside Sienna's gate. It is about a 15 minute walk into the center of Sienna, but although it is slightly uphill, it was pleasant. There is free parking on the street, or you can pay for parking in a lot. There was no designated place to unload the suitcases from the car. We had a triple room on two levels. The room was small, but very clean and quiet. The breakfast was delicious and we ate in the beautiful garden which was very relaxing.

Stayed here for two nights in May 2010, and would be happy to go back again. It was a bit more expensive that places within the city walls, but we were so glad we picked it. There's a fantastic garden/patio in the back where you can sit for hours, overlooking the hills of Tuscany. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the garden one night and it was one of the highlights of our trip. 10/15 minute walk to city center, but an easy walk. Breakfast was lovely, and the staff was helpful. Only downside was the lack of internet service. Room was beautiful and the bathroom was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for two nights at the end of June 2010. It's a very pretty little hotel located just outside the city walls of Siena. As lots of the other reviews have said, this does mean that it's a 10 - 15 minute walk into the centre of the city - and maybe that's a factor to take into account in what is a very small city. It's uphill and unshaded for much of the walk into the centre.

The garden is beautiful - you can have breakfast there - and the views across the Tuscan countryside are stunning. The rooms are a little bit quirky - ours had the bed on a mezzanine level above the wardrobe and bathroom on the main level below. The bed was also quite uncomfortable - two single beds pushed together to make a double.

We stayed here in early-mid June with our two children. We had a wonderful 2-story family room with a large bed and two smaller beds. Our back windows opened up onto a dreamy view of Tuscan farms and hills. However, we were also only a 2-minute walk to the city's ancient gates and 10 - 15 minutes from the town square. As a result, we were able to easily visit Siena's treasures, yet had a wonderful restful retreat nearby to stay in. Since we drove to Siena in a rental car, we were appreciative of the parking the hotel provided. (We were thankful for GPS for helping us find the hotel.) Breakfast was provided in a sweet garden setting and offered a variety of good foods and beverages. The hotel was also very clean, and although was in an old buliding, was fitted with modern amenities. Staff were frienly and very nice. The only problem we had was that the internet did not work well, but otherwise our stay was perfect.

There was also a wonderful restaurant down the street from the hotel that they recommended for us. It was something like the Porta Fora Restaurant, and was among the best meals we've had in Italy.

We (2 couples) arrived at the Santa Caterina on 6 June for a 3 day stay. the hotel is situated just outside the City gates and has a most wonderful garden where breakfast is taken (weather permitting).
The welcome was superb, our cases were taken from the road outside and whisked up to our rooms ( there is no parking at the front of the hotel and it is by a set of traffic lights so one pulls up on the pavement to unload. we were fortunate that we found free parking on the other side of the road about 60 metres away and left the car for 2 days until we left)
we had booked "superior" rooms and both were excellent, lovely comfortable beds, aircon, double glazing, great bath/ shower rooms with beautiful large soft bath sheets.
Breakfast offers a good selection of cereals, croissants, bread, cheese, meats fruit juice, in fact we wanted for nothing.
We did walk into the centre but it is a good 15 minute walk, quite a bit of which is uphill and it was very hot. We found the best way to get to the centre was by bus( the hotel have tickets @1 euro per trip and the bus stop is 20 metres from the front door, buses run every 15 minuted during the week and terminate at the Piazza Mercato just behind the Campo.
After a good breakfast and the prospect of a meal out in town in the evening, we found that a picnic the Hotel garden with a bottle of wine was just perfect. the hotel staff even provided us with plates , knives and forks etc, they really could not have been more helpful and always went the extra mile to ensure we were happy.
In the evening we bused ian and then got taxis back after dining, once again the hotel staff's recomendations wer spot on.
This is a great hotel, wecoming, happy staff and good quality.
We'll be back
