My wife and I stayed at the villa for 4 nights in early October 2010. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary. Although we have travelled extensively within the United states, this was our first trip to Europe together.....so we were not sure of what to expect.
We could not have been more pleased with our choice of Villa Scacciapensieri. The staff at the front desk were wonderful and attentive. They all took time to assure that our needs were met, and helped us to map out an intinerary each day. We want to thank Bruce specifically, for his tips on how to get the most out of our one day trip to Florence. We also want to give special thanks to Barbara for getting us a cab when we got lost in Siena one night after dinner. All dinner recommendations were outstanding choices.

The Villa was located in a perfect jumping off point for our entire Tuscan experience. Just a few min by bus to the entrace of Siena...the bus conveniently picked us up and dropped us off at the end of the villa driveway. We made day trips to Siena, Florence, Bonfi Vinards, and took a day trip to Montelcino, Montelpuciano, Pienza and Cortona.

Breakfast and dinner at the villa were outstanding. We stayed for dinner two nights - with Andrea as our host. He was very welcoming and a great host each evening. Breakfast was perfect as well....with selections of anything you could want available in a very serene setting. The Villa itself was very well kept. It was very close to town, but maintained a very secuded....out of the way.... feel. The views of Tuscany from our second floor suite were amazing. We had 2 bathrooms and a very large living room, in addition to our bedroom.

In short, our choice in Villa Scacciapensieri was everything we could have hoped for ....and more. We would definitely return, and we thank the staff for making our trip so enjoyable.

We stayed at the Villa Scacciapensieri in late August. We were there for eight days. The atmosphere is as if you are staying at a distant rich uncle's villa in Italy. Very polite, restrained and quiet. Contrary to some of the reviews here, we found the front desk to be very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant is expensive, but the staff is very pleasant and the included breakfast is consistent and good. The pool is cold, but very refreshing after a long day touring around hilly Tuscan towns. We looked forward to it every day, as we looked forward to sitting on the veranda in the late afternoon, having a drink, reading, chatting and watching the comings and goings of the hotel. A tip - there is a very good, reasonably priced restaurant and pizzeria at the campground just down the road to the right from the hotel. They have indoor and outdoor seating, it's not just pizza by a long shot and it's comfortable, convenient and good. Also, our iPad would not work with the free wi-fi, but some guests from France were able to get theirs to work.

Nice hotel but do agree with other reviews that furnishings and grounds are a little tired. Desk staff were cool except for the gentleman from Scotland (didn't get name) who was very helpful and accommodating. Dinner was good but overpriced but nice setting on the terrace. Agree with previous review about the photographs.

We spent 5 nights at the Scacciapensieri (my wife and children aged 10 and 7). We recommend it highly. I don't agree with some of the comments that the hotel is inappropriately kept up; although it is not a newly entirely renovated place, that is not the point. It is in much better condition than many historic hotels in which I've stayed in Italy. We had a room that was very comfortable, with great beds, fine air conditioning (it was 90 every day but we weren't hot), a renovated bath, and lovely views. It is a great vantage point for exploring towns like Montereggioni and San Gimignano. The food is excellent, the breakfasts large enough to hold you to dinner, and we had an extraordinary Florentine steak and excellent whole Orata, a Mediterranean fish that was extremely fresh, cooked perfectly and simply with rosemary from the hotel's garden. The headwaiter, Andrea, is one of the best captains I've seen in many years, and the wine list is terrific. The hotel's crisp swimming pool is very refreshing in the hot afternoons, and the gardens and tall trees lovely. There is also a tennis court.

The photographer who shot the photos for the Villa's website deserves an award. When we first booked the hotel, we believe that we would be staying in a rural Tuscan villa. Not so.

We had hoped that Villa Scacciapensieri would be one of the truly beautiful and romantic portions of our honeymoon, but this dream was shattered when we arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a cantankerous receptionist who simply said "What?" Brilliant way to greet a guest wouldn't you say!

After we had confirmed that we had a standing booking, were on our honeymoon and had booked a "Villa" (having understood from the hotel's website that it was the best accommodation) we were advised that we would be staying in the main hotel building.

When I queried this I was told that it was the best room the hotel had to offer. The room was huge and the view was magnificent. But the television did not work and they didn't even bother telling us!

A day later as another gentleman complained of his room and was relocated by the same irritable receptionist, I overheard her advising him that he was being moved to "the best room the hotel had to offer".

Of course I shouldn't forget that not two minutes after we drove up the driveway and tried to check in we were told to move our car down to the car park immediately.

Don't get me wrong, the hotel is aesthetically beautiful (it has wonderful old world charm) and the location in terms of proximity to town is good. But it is no where near the grand estate it once was. The entire hotel is literally old and tired and in desperate need of a makeover. As is my cantankerous friend's attitude!

There is also a restaurant attached to the hotel which is ridiculously expensive compared to the fare you can get in town and not really worth it. In fact the cantankerous receptionist got so offended with us when we didn't want to have the 65 Euro set dinner (per person) at the hotel that we eventually relented one night because we didn't want to incur her wrath.

Another issue we had was that we were twice woken up to the sound of a wasp (of the insect variety) in our bathroom that was the size of a small bird. When we advised the manger of the hotel (who we have a sneaking suspicion is married to one of the family that owns the hotel), we were shocked that they weren't really that fussed and at no time did anyone apologise for the inconvenience this was causing us.

I could go on but as you can no doubt tell our sojourn at this hotel left a bitter taste in our mouths. Nevertheless, Sienna was one of our favourite stops on our honeymoon and is a must for everyone visiting Italy. It is simply fabulous!!!

One more thing…. a positive thing about the hotel was two lovely Swedish ladies who worked as receptionists as well and were simply delightful to deal with. The kind of people that put you at ease and make your trip worth while! We congratulate the hotel on hiring them.

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely villa in a small suite. It is in the most beautiful setting as long as you avoid looking at the hospital which is big and very ugly. Very unfortunate.

The rooms were reasonably clean and the decor was ageing, but did suit the villa well. Think that little touches for this type of accommodation were missing - like thick towels - we were supplied old rough towels. I would also think that this type of villa would provide dressing gowns and slippers but they don't.

The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and the service was exceptional. Breakfast was tasty and offered a good choice.

Some of the gardens were beautiful, but some needed to be tided up bit, but to be honest I am being hyper critical. It was lovely. The swimming pool was large and cold!

Overall we had a lovely time and I would definately recommend this to relax in and enjoy your Siena trip.

This must have been a wonderful hotel in the 50's. The inroom literature tells you that Princ Ranier and Grace Kelly once stayed and you can believe it. The property and grounds are wonderful with good views from our room over to Siena. Unfortunately the literature also tells you that the hotel is run by three generations of the family that has owned it since the 50's and the signs of this are all around you. There is a major lack of investment and consequently it is untidy and needing a refurb throughout, it is almost in a time warp.
