“Excellent hotel, convenient and helpful staff”

We really enjoyed our 2 nights here. Siena was a lovely place and the hotel was very conveniently positioned to explore on foot but just a little removed from crowds and noise. Breakfast was lovely and all pastries are prepared on the premises the 7th floor terrace was a lovely way to unwind at the end of the day. Bathroom was a good size and absolutely spotless.

Friendly and accommodating staff, great views from the rooms especially those facing the city (facing southwest). The sun terrace affords fantastic views of the west side of the city and the rolling hills and vineyards below the city wall.
Fantastic location - just inside the walls and a 10 minute walk through the narrow winding streets to the Campo or Duomo.
Good varied continental breakfast - beautifully fresh pastries!
Didn't try the small restaurant - Siena has much more variety to offer.
Many hotels further into the city are in tight streets with very tall buildings, so we can imagine they could be a bit dark. The Hotel Athena is on the city edge (although within the walls) with an open an light outlook - a great location.

Room Tip: Note that you can have a room with a view or a room with a balcony, but not a room with a view and a...

We were four ladies of a certain age on a reunion holiday and couldn`t have picked a better hotel. It was situated just inside the city walls so everything was within walking distance. The view from the terrace is lovely particularly at sunset and when it is warm ,drinks and dinner are served up there. Breakfast is adequate, we had dinner there one night which was delicious. Two of us changed rooms because we wanted the wonderful views over the countryside from the back of the hotel. This was achieved with a minimum of fuss. All the staff from reception, bar and restaurant were so helpful and friendly, particularly Linda and Luigi. On our last night the hotel hosted a fashion show for a local design shop, Il Telaio and a jewellery designer, Simona Calamusa and two of us were asked to model some of the designs. It made our holiday, it was such fun.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back for the view

I booked this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews. The free parking was a plus, I must admit. When we got to the room, the first thing that I noticed was a big stain on the carpet. I know that it is not easy to keep carpets clean, but this was a really noticable stain. It looks like the hotel is trying to do some upgrades - our room had fancy halogen track lights, but when the shower head is installed so that there is no possible way to take a shower without flooding the bathroom, you don't really notice the track lighting. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but the hotel is conveniently located. I recommend not staying in 5th floor rooms - the meeting rooms are on the 6th floor, and we could hear chair scraping and foot falls from the 6th floor in our 5th floor room.

Room Tip: 6th floor is meeting rooms, so 5th floor rooms get noise from the meeting rooms through the ceiling.

We recently stayed at this hotel with our 3 children (aged 13, 10, and 8) and our labradoodle dog.

Since we were traveling with children but required two rooms due to our family size, we had specifically requested that the rooms be as near each other as possible. As such, I was a bit surprised and put out when upon arrival, we were given rooms on two different floors and told there was nothing the hotel could do because of the way we had booked the rooms (one a nicer room than the other). I had communicated with the hotel both via email and phone and would have expected them to address the issue with me prior to my arrival -- I would have happily changed the way I had booked the rooms if it meant that we could be near each other.

The rooms themselves were quite spacious and fairly modern. My husband and I had a room on the 7th floor which was recently remodeled. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge tub and a rainmaker shower head (a favorite of my husband). The room furnishings still looked a bit outdated. The bed was made with a sheet and a heavy comforter. I'm used to removing the comforter and was a bit surprised that there was no blanket (we later found one in the armoire). Having traveled a lot in Europe, I expected to see duvets and would have much preferred them. There is something about a hotel bedspread that gives me a creepy feeling. Our children's room had similar furnishings, but the bathroom wasn't as modern. It was still clean and met their purposes.

The hotel had a good breakfast with a nice variety of bread, cheeses, yogurts, etc.

The desk staff was friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations.

We appreciated the on-site parking, but be prepared for a tight entrance and exit. We drive an SUV and we had an inch of clearance either side when entering and exiting. It would not be as bad if it were a straight entrance into the garage, but you have to navigate a couple of turns before you reach the parking spaces. We did feel that the car was quite safe once inside, but we had no desire to move the car until we were leaving the city. Fortunately, everything was within a short walk and we wouldn't have used the car regardless of the parking situation.

The terrace on the 7th floor provides great views on the city and the Tuscan countryside.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 7th floor have been remodeled.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Athena and were very pleased with our time there. At Euros 180 a night it is not a bargain, but the quality is good and consistent. The front desk staff is very helpful. Luigi and his other colleagues would go out of their way to help us with little things like getting an ice pack after a day of biking, or having drinks sent up to the room. The room was spacious and quiet, with a view overlooking the walls of Sienna.

The outdoor terrasse on the 7th floor is also a pleasant place to end the day, have a drink, and watch the sun go down.

Stay out of the underground garage. It is a nightmare to navigagte. Use the outdoor parking.

Room Tip: We were on the 7th floor which has been upgraded recently. Our room with a view of the city wall was...
