“Stay here when coming to Siena”
Reviewed 22 May 2008

My wife and I (we're in our mid 30's) spent an entire week here with 2 nights in a hotel room and 4 in an apartment. It was awesome! You never really know what you're getting when booking online but the Grondaie suprised me. The entire staff was very friendly and always willing to help and the facilites were extremely clean. The hotel rooms are very spacious as well as the bathrooms (pretty uncommon) with details such as original antique furniture which gives a real cozy feeling....not your typical "hotel" feel at all. The apartments were the same and had tons of room. I read the reviews about walking to town being a bit difficult, but we found it an easy 10-15 min. walk right into the middle of Siena....I don't think you would want to be any closer anyway due to noise so it's worth it and it just gets you ready for the big hills! The Coop (grocery) is right down the hill which is great for you apt. renters. It's easy access especially when you're making day trips to surrounding cities and sitting on the hills behind the apts. watching the sun go down over Siena is a must. I'd stay here again for sure and recommend it to anyone!

This is long overdue. We stayed here for 2 nights and it was amazing how you felt completely far from the city! After eating at hotels for weeks it was nice to walk to the huge Co-Op and make our own meals for a change. We did not have a car and for some it may have been a long walk into town but it was not too bad. The grounds are beautiful and the service was very friendly and recommended the best restaurant --by far the best meal on our tour of Italy. I cannot remember the name! Siena is amazing--we enjoyed it much more than Florence. The Duomo di Siena is a must see. Some really pretty neighborhoods near the sports arena.
When we left early we just called a cab ( at 6am) and he took no time to get there.
Rent a car and check out countryside and villages--really easy to navigate even without GPS.
As to being near train tracks and large grocery store--I am very picky about views and such but from our room it was not a problem at all. Walking around the grounds I never thought it was an issue.

Borgo Grondaie. We stayed one night, 5/2. Although this hotel is situated behind a huge COOP grocery and the train station, once you are on the property it feels like you are in the country. There is a pool that is open during the summer. Room was a nice sized. In the evening, there was a Happy Hour with free snacks with the purchase of a glass of wine. We drove to the San Francesco parking lot to be able to see old town Siena. This parking lot is near a bank of escalators (5) that take you up into town. We were there over a long Italian weekend and it was pretty crowded—I can’t imagine what it would be like during the Palio.

There are no restaurants near the Borgo—you must drive or take a pretty long walk (unless there was a shortcut we didn’t see) to get to one. I think this hotel would be a wonderful base to tour Tuscany and Umbria.

Bought some foodstuffs to take home at the COOP. Good prices. A can of Coke was on special for 0.40 euros—quite a bargain compared to what we paid at various locations.

This is a really lovely hotel. Only stayed for one night but it was just fantastic. Little bit of difficulty finding it, I thought we would see the coop supermarket from the road but it was sunk down a little bit.

The gardens here are lovely. The swimming pool isn't open until June, but it looked nice! The room was nice, clean, fresh. The staff were exceptional, really couldn't do enough.

Breakfast was great and on the evening we arrived they had a happy hour on with wines and a buffet that was fab.

I'd recommend this, it's worth it. I'd certainly go back, but I'd stay a bit longer next time!

We stayed in the Borgo Grondai apartment during our stay in Siena. It was the cutest apartment and definitely gave you the feel of being in Tuscany. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay so comfortable. It felt like we were at home.
The apartment we stayed in had two bedrooms, one with a "french bed" and the other a king. The "french bed" was the size of a standard double on American terms and was more than enough space for a couple to share.
The breakfasts were included and were AMAZING. They had fresh made pastries that were so good. We ate every morning and the quality of the food was excellent.
The staff was very helpful. They would call cabs for us (I didn't realize Siena was so hilly), book dinner reservations and give recommendations. They provided great maps and offered suggestions on everything we asked.
It was a great experience and we will definitely stay here again.

I had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel last August with 3 friends during the Palio Festival. Siena is an amazing town both day and night and was the highlight of our 11 day holiday in Italy. It's the perfect location for touring around Tuscany. Our rooms were really lovely, clean and serviced everyday. The service at Borgo Grondaie was superb. The satff were friendly, courteous and went out of their way to help and advise us. The choice of food at breakfast was the best I have come across. It was a pleasure starting each morning sitting out under the morning sun, eating delicious food, sipping a cup of coffee and planning our day ahead or in the evening before travelling into town for dinner we relaxed with a glass of wine. The Coop store on the way up to the hotel was very handy for buying any items we needed i.e. water, fruit etc. We certainly didn't feel that it took from the hotel. I really couldn't fault Borgo Grondaie and it's staff in any way. I will definately be returning to Siena and Borgo Grondaie.

We spent 3 nights in room 106. The room was clean, a decent size by European standards and the bed comfortable. The bathroom offered Etro toiletries and slippers. A complimentary bottle of still and sparkling water was placed in our bar fridge each day.

Breakfast was included and FANTASTIC. Apart from pastries, cereals, fresh meats etc there were savoury pies and freshly baked cakes and tarts. There is a bar onsite but no restaurant so if you want a meal you have to take a taxi.

The team is highly customer focused and made suggestions for local touring, provided clear and accurate directions to walk to the Old Town and suggested one of our trip's favourite restaurants, La Compagnia dei Vinattieri, we opted for the 5 course degustation for 35 euros per head and it was phenomenal.

There is onsite free parking. Check out their website which has loads of useful information.

If you want to be close to the Old Town this may not be the property for you as it is a good 20 minute walk. The hotel also overlooks the rail lines which was the only aspect I didn't enjoy. There is a large grocery store a few minutes walk away.

I thought the room rate was quite expensive for a 3 star and it was more expensive than great deals I obtained on 4 and 5 star properties.

If you show your Entertainment Card you will receive a 10% discount.
