Rented an apartment - Olivi 2.

Reviews on this site are right on- quiet place; friendly, helpful staff; good location for touring Italy.

We found the accommodations to be perfect for the two of us - small kitchenette, living area and loft bedroom. Small but clean, tiled bathroom and comfortable bed.

We didn't opt for breakfast - but it looked and smelled great!

Internet available in the lobby at reasonable prices.

Best thing was the available onsite laundry service and supermarket close by.

This hotel was one of the real highlights of our trip to Italy. I felt like I was in a Tuscan paradise. We stayed in a charming apartment with a kitchenette. It was overlooking a gorgeous green hill with olive trees and pretty flowers.
You should be clear that this hotel is outside the city walls of Siena. But the hotel can easily have a cab dispatched to pick you up (the train station is nearby) and drive you right into the piazza in central Siena (saving you a somewhat strenuous walk).

A friend and I rented a second floor apartment with a large terrace overlooking the gardens for a week. The apartment was comfortably appointed, very affordable, and the staff could not have been more accomodating. Although their breakfast buffet was very nice, we started most mornings reading a book on the terrace with a cup of fresh espresso and cooked our own breakfasts. We purchased fresh local produce, Italian meats, cheeses, olives, wine, etc. from the Co-op within walking distance down the hill. The personable staff organized for us two cooking classes at Scuola di Cucina di Lella that we'd highly recommend, a wine tasting tour that was exceptional, and a masseur who came to our room. They provided bus tickets , maps, directions, some great suggestions, and went out of their way to ensure we'd fall in love with Siena and want to return. They also have a small bar and lounge area where we sampled local Tuscan wines. We rented a car in Florence and took day trips to various villages in the Tuscan region but we found the tours to be a much more relaxing way to go. We could walk 25 minutes to downtown Siena or easily catch a bus (avail. every 15-20 minutes) for 0.95 Euros. The Duomo, and Il Campo, Siena's main square, the outdoor market and various shops provide plenty to explore on foot in downtown Siena. San Gimignano and Cortona were two of our favorite villages. You won't want to miss walking through Florence, seeing the Boboli Garden, and taking tours of the Accademia and Uffizi Gallery but Hotel Borgo Grondaie is a wonderful homebase and a great place to relax and enjoy your vacation affordably and comfortably. We met friendly people with a good sense of humor, tried a variety of new wines, enjoyed the local cuisine and found we loved their olive oils! (I was never a fan of olive oil before.) We look forward to a future visit!

This hotel was such a find! I was nervous to book it because others had complained about the location, but we found it to be perfect. It is so close to the train station - our cab ride was only 5 euros to get there. The staff was fantastic, and for once, the online photos did NOT do this place justice. This place holds a little bit of magic. We had the 2 bedroom apartment for 2 couples. We had a FULL kitchen including dishwasher and microwave, full cabinets of dishes and pots, a table for 4, couches, and a patio outside with another table that overlooked outer Siena. The beds were clean and comfortable and the room was so pretty. And the bathroom . . . it was bigger than our last hotel room. Each bedroom had it's own bathroom, and it was fully stocked - nice glass shower and big fluffy towels. The "coop" down the street is literally 5 minutes walk and is a full on grocery store, comparable to a Kroger or Safeway here in the States. We bought everything for French Toast and Eggs and made our own breakfasts, but you can pay for breakfast at the hotel. They have a washing machine available for guests to use, you have to line or rack dry, but all of that is provided, including laundry soap - it was so nice to wash clothes after a week in Rome! The walk into historic Siena is about 15 minutes, the walk is beautiful with views of the Tuscan hillside as you get up to the wall entrances, but the hotel will happily call you a cab if you would rather not. We have decided to use this place for our home base next time we travel to Italy. We stayed in 5 hotels on our trip, this is our favorite place by far! Kids would have a blast here. You could actually have fun hanging out at the hotel with your kiddos. But it was a very beautiful and romantic place for us as well.

Wander the grounds of Borgo Grondaie and you will feel like you are visiting a countryside estate. The owners clearly take pride in their landscaping. They have tastefully terraced the back and connected the terraces with gorgeous stone steps and wooden handrails. We were there in the middle of March and the trees were already blooming. (If you have allergies, don't forget your eyedrops!). The weather was mixed while we were there. On the nicer day when the sun was out, we didn't mind the 10 minute walk past the coop to the bus stop...and the 10 minute wait for the bus. However, on the cold, rainy day, I definitely wished we had booked a place in town. We arrived by bus from Florence which dropped us off in town, so we took a taxi out when we arrived. The fee was only 8 euros. The bus back to Rome picked us up from the train station which is only a 15 minute easy walk from the hotel. The biggest problem we had was that the best restaurants in Siena (we checked out quite a few) don't open for dinner until 7:30, so by the time you finish eating around 9, the trip home can be uncomfortably cold. However, I always felt safe in Siena, so in the summer, this might not be a problem. We did bring home pizza one night, however, our apartment did not have any way to warm the pizza. There was a gas stove, however, we couldn't figure out how to turn it on (it didn't work like American gas stoves) - and there was no microwave, toaster oven, or regular oven. I also missed not having the free internet.. They had the local bus tickets available for sale in the main office which was a great convenience.

This was a great base for visiting Siena and the surrounding area. Although it is about 30 minutes' walk away from the centre of the walled city this was walkable, and there were plenty of buses as an alternative. The receptionist was very helpful, with lots of ideas for places to visit and eat both in the city and in the countryside beyond. The breakfast buffet was superb, and the grounds were beautiful - ideal for cooling off on a hot summer's day.

We stayed in an apartment - 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom and common room with a kitchen. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. Perhaps the best shower during our 2-week trip to Italy. Located right outside the walls of Siena, it was a short walk or drive to the old city. If you are traveling with a car this is an ideal location.
The service was excellent, the proprietor provided helpful information and advice about the area.
Liked best: spacious accommodation, helpful and approachable proprietor
Liked least: nothing, this is a great place!
