Everyone should stay at Borgo Grondaie once in their life. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip.

The Hotel has everything you could ask for, great staff who give you a big warm Italian welcome, beautiful gardens, a pool with views of Siena, rooms with a Tuscan feel, internet connection, satellite TV and only 20mins walk from the town of Siena.

We must also make a special mention of the incredible breakfast, which was the best breakfast in our 5 week trip of Europe. Included in the price is a breakfast with cold meats, fruit tarts, eggs from the Hotel's own chickens, herb and cheese pannini, fresh fruit egg and prosciutto tart, the list goes on.

If you don't stay here when in Siena then you are missing out.

We were traveling in the Siena area with our adult son. We drove to Siena with a rental car from Florence. Each day we headed to a different area of Tuscany. We found it easy to get in and out of Siena form the Hotel.
The front desk was most helpful in advising us where to dine each night. All of our meals were excellent with a wide variety of menus and costs.
The breakfasts at the hotel were the best we had in our 2 week stay in Italy. The breakfast attendant had our son's expresso for him every morning.
It was nice having the grocery store so close.

Great location - just outside of city walls. Coop supermarket down the street - perfect for getting groceries and cooking an italian meal in the apartment kitchen. Our apartment had an outdoor patio with a table and chairs and two lounge chairs with a beautiful view! The pool was also a nice treat. Perfect for a group of girlfriends looking to explore Tuscany! I would definitely stay there again!

We stayed in the 2 bdrm, 2 bath Villa for 4 nites. The accommodations were clean and well equipped and the grounds beautiful. However, I rated the location as poor since this hotel is close to the train station and nearby construction for what I think is some type of housing development and as such is very noisy from about 7:30 am thru dark so if you're planning on staying on the grounds to enjoy some peace & quiet forget it. The constant buzz of trains moving and turning around and the roar and pounding of nearby machinery detracts from the beauty of the ground at Borgo Grondaie. On the first morning of my stay I was awakened by the pounding of some kind of pile driving machinery that made the ground tremble. Even with the windows closed you could feel the pounding. While it's not the hotel mgmt's fault, you may want to consider the noisy surroundings before booking this hotel. The breakfast was adequate but insufficient for 8 euros.

After staying at a tiny place in Venice we really wanted a hotel room with a few modern comforts and a nice bath! We didn't get the bath (we booked the room about two hours before driving into Siena so the rooms with baths were gone) but the room we got was excellent. This is a very quiet location a ways out of the main medieval town. Be prepared to get a 7 Euro taxi into and out of Siena to the hotel. The airconditioning worked and was excellent. The amenities were fantastic. The breakfast was the best breakfast we had on our entire trip! We were glad we had filled up at breakfast when I took a wrong turn hiking later that day and we ended up hiking an extra 5km in the countryside!

We usually stay in bed and breakfast accommodation, preferring the friendly, individual service and character that they offer. Previous reviews were right in suggesting that we would find the same qualities at Borgo Grondaie. It feels much more like a B&B than a hotel, with small accommodation buildings scattered around the site and the most friendly hotel staff we have ever experienced.

As we approached the hotel our TomTom GPS became confused, sending us the wrong way, into a residential area, before returning us to our starting point. From the roundabout near the railway station, we should have taken what looks like a small service road to the right of the supermarket. It’s an odd approach to the hotel through a commercial looking area, but turning the corner reveals the hotel in a peaceful oasis, surrounded by very pleasant gardens.

Our room (Villa 2) was well furnished, spacious and immaculately clean. It was also cool, shaded by mature trees in the grounds, but air conditioning was also available. It was quiet room, although we were unlucky with having noisy guests upstairs from us for one night.

Breakfast is served in the reception/dining area. The choice and quality of the food provided was first class. The buffet included a range of cereals, lots of savoury items and a choice of four different cakes each day. It did not help with our dieting, but it was a very nice way to start the day.

The receptionists recommended restaurants in the centre of Siena each night, and made reservations for us. They also directed us to the large parking area which made journeys into the centre very easy.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Borgo Grondaie if you want a relaxing base, close to the city centre.

The Grondaie isn't as much out in the country as you might think. In fact it's walking distance to both a supermarket and a train station, which probably grew up around it, and it's close to major roads and just a few minutes' drive to the edge of old Siena. Yet it has spacious grounds, big rooms, free parking, and a relaxing atmosphere, and it's fairly quiet.

The staff are courteous and helpful; some speak good English. They are happy to provide advice and even make phone calls on your behalf.

We received a free upgrade to a 2-bedroom apartment with kitchen -- very handy, especially as there is a very big supermarket less than 200m away.

My only little disappointment was with the pool -- it's not heated, and unfortunately even on a very warm September day, it was too cold to use. But overall this is a fine place and, if not at peak high season, a good value too. Recommended.

PS: the entrance to the hotel is HIDDEN. You have to drive through the parking lane of the "Coop" supermarket to get to the Borgo Grondaie.
