“Amazing place, wonderful food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

We popped in on our way back from the train station and were so glad we did!
The restaurant was full of locals some eating in, some buying food to take away and re-heat at home!
The selection of meats and cheese on offer was vast and although a lot of food was pre-prepared they did offer a couple of pasta dishes cooked to order.
The food was delicious and very reasonable and service prompt.
We had a large sharing plate of meats, pecorino cheese and bread followed by pica pasta with pecorino, wine and water....the bill came to €29.50....a real bargain and a great people watching experience!

“the tuscan spirit in food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2013

If you're a nouvelle cuisine lover, stay away. If your hear like mine is warmed by a perfect ribollita, a tasti pasta e fagioli, and by a fabulous choice of cheese and salumi, then by all means visit the vinaio, but remember book in advance because the locals fill it daily! Operated by David & Bobbe (the Trombicche team that moved from the cramped location in Via delle terme) the place is now in a reclamated ex supermarket (the poetry!) in Via di Camollia, very fashionable in Siena after the opening of the moving stairs from the station to the center. Carefully restaurated, with a marvel of a display for ready food, they are open 12 hours a day for 6 days a week. You can choose the cold zuppa or order freshly cooked primi (pasta dishes) that will take 10-12 minutes to come because they are not precooked but made on order. You can well spend that time tasting appetizers, cheeses, sausages, anchovies under pesto, and the local wine they serve. A complete meal can be had for 15 euros and very satisfactory too.

“Very recommendable if you want to escape the tourist traps”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

This is a very traditional tavern. Then do not expect that a waiter brings you the menu at the table: the menu is only readable on a blackboard at the entrance, or you can check visually what foods are present, looking at the counter.
The fact that some food is prepared in advance can arouse some suspicion, but the foods are consumed rather quickly, thanks to many customers.
The property is located in Via di Camollia, almost at the north end of the walled city, in an area where tourists rarefied and is more common the presence of Sienese citizens. In fact, the tavern isn't intended for tourists (although these are not lacking), this is then a perfect opportunity for travelers who want to identify with the local culture.
Last but not least: the value for money is good, the staff is very friendly and the property is tidy!

“Blown away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013 via mobile

We just happened to end up here when strolling, looking for just anything to eat, and we were just blown away. Everything we had was top notch and nothing else. The restaurant and its staff got lots of character and everything was just very pleasant :)
